Dear Eddie,

I have a question to ask and it is this. Actually several
questions.

The feast of pesach is to be a remembrance of the exodus from Egypt.
This feast does not seem to be dealing with atonement for sin at all.
It was asked of the Israelites to take the blood and place it on the
doorpost to stay the hand of the death angel on the first born in the
household.

From Eddie:
**************

The Rabbi's teach that there are four levels to
understanding the Torah/Bible. These four levels are:

#1) Peshat --- the literal meaning
#2) Ramez --- One scripture is connected to another scripture
#3) Derash --- exogesis of scripture, parables, Midrash
#4) Sod --- the deeper meaning not seen at the surface

The opposite of the Peshat (literal) is the Sod. The Sod is
what Christians refer to as the "spiritual meaning".

In the literal application (Peshat), the feast of Pesach
(Passover) is a remembrance of the exodus from Egypt. The commandment
by G-d in the Bible to remember the Passover from Egypt is found in
Exodus (Shemot) 13:8:

"And you shall show thy son in that day, saying, This is done because
of that which the Lord did unto me when I came forth out of Egypt"

However, the LITERAL deliverance of the children of Israel
from Egypt by the hand of G-d is a spiritual picture (Sod) of sinners
leaving the ways of the world influenced by HaSatan (the adversary)
and the ways of the flesh (in Jewish thinking - the evil inclination).

When the children of Israel came out of Egypt, G-d made them
a NATION at Mount Sinai and entered into a marriage with them at that
time (Jeremiah 2:1-2, Hosea 2:19-20). The ketubah (marriage contract)
was the Torah. In Deut 29:14-15, G-d tells the people that the
marriage contract (Torah) that He is giving and making with the people
is NOT for them ALONE but also for future generations and for them
that did not see the physical event.  In Deuteronomy (Devarim)
29:14-15:

"Neither with you only do I make this covenant and this oath; but with
him that standeth with us this day before the Lord our God, and also
with him that is not here with us this day"

The same thought is communicated by the Apostle Paul (Rav Sha'ul) in I
Corinthians 10:1-4:

"Moreover, brethren, I would not that you should be ignorant how that
ALL of our fathers were under the cloud and ALL passed through the sea
and ALL were baptized (immersed / mikvah) unto Moses/Moshe in the
cloud and in the sea; and did ALL eat the same spiritual meat: and did
ALL drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual
Rock that followed them and that Rock was Christ".

In this passage, the Apostle Paul (Rav Sha'ul) speaks
that we today all were under the cloud and passed through the sea.
Since you and I didn't LITERALLY do this, it is spiritual. So, how is
it spiritual and how it related to redemption?

Egypt is a type of the world and the world's system.
Every time that it is mentioned that the children of Israel went to
Egypt, the Torah states that they "went down".  However, when the
children of Israel left Egypt, they "went up" to the land of Israel.
"Going up" is making "Aliyah". Aliyah means to "ascend".

Whenever you leave Egypt (the world system governed by HaSatan)
you are "ascending" spiritually. Whenever you go to Egypt (the world)
you "go down" (descend spiritually) and you become in bondage to sin.

Genesis 12:10

"And there was a famine in the land: and Abram WENT DOWN into EGYPT to
sojourn there ..."

Genesis 26:2:

"And the Lord appeared unto him (Isaac) and said, Go not DOWN into
EGYPT; dwell in the land which I shall tell thee of"

Genesis 13:1

"And Abram WENT UP out of Egypt, he, and his wife and all that he had
..."

Genesis 45:25:

"And they WENT UP out of Egypt ..."

Pharoah is a type of HaSatan. Pharoah is symbolic of the False
Messiah. Pharoah is symbolic of HaSatan, the cruel taskmaster who
enslaves us in sin and our own fleshly desires. Pharoah is symbolic of
pride. In Ezekiel 29:2-3

"Son of man, set thy face against Pharoah king of Egyptand prophesy
against him, and against all Egypt. Speak and say, Thus saith the Lord
God,  Behold, I am against thee, Pharoah king of Egypt, the great
dragon that lieth in the midst of his rivers, which has said, My river
is mine own, I have made it for myself"

The fall of HaSatan when he rebelled against G-d in heaven was pride
because of the big "I". Isaiah (Yeshayahu) 14:12-14:

"How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how
art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For
thou has said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt
my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of
the congregation, in the sides of the north. I will ascend above the
heights of the clouds: I will be like the most High"

Pharoah says, "My river is my own" (Ezekiel 29:3) and
HaSatan says, "I will" (Isaiah 14:12-14)

Because they strayed from the instruction of G-d, His
promises to Abraham and the Torah, the children of Israel were in
Egypt. While they prospered initially in the land of Goshen, later,
they became in bondage to Pharoah. There is also a spiritual lesson in
this.

We believe that we have to depend upon Egypt for our
sustenance and our means of living (our jobs).  We spend most of our
lives working to build cities for Pharoah (the world).  We view this
as beneficial to us because we get paid a wage and are able to use
these wages to live our lives. While we initially prosper in Egypt
(the world), often, we forget about G-d and our covenant with Him just
like the children of Israel. We spend more time in Egypt that we do
studying G-d's Word and the ways of the Kingdom of Heaven.

Later, we discover that this system get us into bondage. By disobeying
the laws of G-d, we have financial problems, we have social problems,
we have family problems, we have marital problems. Then, we cry out to
G-d in our bondage.  When we are sincere in our hearts, G-d sends to
us deliverance. We get excited about being saved and knowing our
Messiah! We get excited about reading and studying G-d's Word! After
we cry out in our bondage just like the children of Israel (Exodus
2:23-24), G-d delivers us from our bondages. . In Exodus 2:23-24:

"And it came to pass in the process of time, that the king of Egypt
died: and the children of Israel sighed by reason of the bondage and
they cried and their cry came up unto God by reason of their bondage.
And God heard their groaning and God remembered his covenant with
Abraham, with Isaac and with Jacob"

Most believers FIRST experience the bondage of sin
before they cry out to G-d for deliverance. G-d's deliverer is the
Messiah.  The Messiah is our deliverer and our salvation.  In Isaiah
12:2:

"Behold God is my (salvation/YESHUA) I will trust and not be afraid:
for the Lord YHVH ... is become my salvation/YESHUA"

G-d is my YESHUA. YHVH is my YESHUA. YESHUA means "salvation".

The children of Israel were delivered by G-d when His
judgment in the form of plaques came upon Egypt. The children of
Israel were delivered when they applied the blood of their Passover
LAMB upon their doorposts.

In Exodus 12:5-6, 13, it is written:

"Your lamb shall be without blemish ... and you shall keep it up until
the 14th day of the same month (Nisan/Abib) (the day of Passover) and
the whole congregation of Israel shall kill it ... And the BLOOD shall
be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and WHEN I see the
BLOOD, I will pass over you ..."

The deliverance/salvation of the children of Israel from
Egypt was when they applied the BLOOD of the LAMB upon their DOORPOSTS.

Blood in the Bible was given by G-d to atone for our sins.
In Leviticus 17:11:

"... for it is the BLOOD that makes an atonement for the soul ..."

Spiritually, Yeshua is the Lamb of G-d. In John 1:29:

"The next day John sees Jesus coming unto Him and says, Behold the
LAMB of G-d, which takes away the sins of the world"

Yeshua/Jesus is called "Our Passover" in I Corinthians 5:7:

"... For even Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us"

Spiritually, we are redeemed from the bondage of sin by
applying the blood of Yeshua on our doorposts (symbolic of our
hearts). We do this whenever we accept Yeshua/Jesus into our hearts
and lives. We are REDEEMED from EGYPT (the world) by the BLOOD of
G-d's Passover LAMB. In I Peter 1:18-19

"Forasmuch as you know that you were not redeemed with corruptible
things ... but with the precious BLOOD of CHRIST as of a LAMB without
blemish and spot"

Therefore, what happened LITERALLY (Peshat) in HISTORY is a
prophetic SPIRITUAL picture (Sod) of G-d's redemption spiritually.

Egypt is a type of the world. Pharoah is a type of
HaSatan. The bondage of Egypt is sin. We are redeemed from Egypt by
the BLOOD of a LAMB upon our DOORPOSTS. Yeshua/Jesus is our Passover
Lamb. The doorposts in our hearts.

I explain this more fully in my book, "The Seven
Festivals of the Messiah".

From Jeff:
**************

1. How does the church interpret the remission of sin based on Y'shua
being the paschal lamb? How is this reconciled in the light of the
hebrew scriptures beginning with the Exodus 12? I don't see any
reference to cleansing from sin.

From Eddie:
***************

By accepting Yeshua/Jesus into your heart and life by
faith (emunah) and by repenting (Teshuvah) of your sins and by
trusting in His shed blood for the remission of your sins,  you are
cleansed from your sins.

Colossians 1:14:

"In whom (Yeshua/Jesus) we have redemption through his blood even the
forgiveness of sins"

Ephesians 1:7:

"In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of
sins, according to the riches of his grace"

Leviticus 17:11 tells us that without the shedding
of blood their is no atonement for the soul. The children of Israel
were redeemed in Exodus 12 by the shedding of the BLOOD of a LAMB and
applying that blood upon their doorposts. By an act of FAITH, the
people did this. When they did, G-d showed GRACE and redeemed the
people. This same principal applies to us as sinners, by faith
believing in the shed blood of the lamb of G-d, Yeshua, (John 1:29, I
Corinthians 5:7) and by faith receiving this act into our hearts, we
are forgiven of our sins by the GRACE of G-d.

From Jeff:
************

As we read Lev. concerning the sacrifices chapter 5 seems to show the
absolute GRACE of Hashem in that if we are unable to bring a lamb, we
are to bring two turtledoves or pigeons, if we are unable to afford
two doves we are to bring an ephah of fine flour.

From Eddie:
**************

Their are five categories of offerings that G-d required
in the Torah. They were the:

#1) Sin Offering
#2) Trespass offering
#3) Burnt offering
#4) Meat offering
#5) Peace offering

These offerings were to be given for various reasons.
They were fulfilled in various ways. Salvation came by FAITH. In the
natural, G-d made provision so that every person could bring an
offering and fulfil G-d's requirement for that sacrifice. The
offerings were offered and burned upon the altar. The altar is
symbolic of the tree that Yeshua/Jesus was crucified upon. The priest
was instructed to put the blood upon the altar to make atonement for
the people (Leviticus 16). Yeshua/Jesus is our High Priest (Hebrews
4:14).

From Jeff:
*************

2. Second question is where in the hebrew scripture do we see G-d
requiring an ultimate sacrifice? Especially when we read the words of
Dovid in Psalm 40:5-f.

Hashem wants our whole heart, soul and strength. To me it appears that
the "system" laid out in Leviticus is G-d's prescription to teach us
obedience. ie. obedience to torah. His grace is and always was in
abundance for the truly repentent. amein

From Eddie:
***************

Does HaShem want our whole heart, soul and strength? The
answer is YES! In Deuteronomy 10:12:

"And now Israel, what does the Lord thy God require of theee, but to
fear the Lord thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and
to serve the Lord thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul"

Has G-d's grace always been in abundance for the truly
repentant? YES! However, there are two methods to be righteous in the
eyes of G-d.

#1) To be 100% obediant to the Torah

This is outlined in Deuteronomy 28:1-2:

"And it shall come to pass if you shall hearken diligently (SHEMA)
unto the voice of the Lord thy God to observe and to do ALL his
commandments ... all these blessing shall come upon thee ..."

The curse for not obeying ALL the commandments is outlined in
Deuteronomy 28:15:

"But it shall come to pass, if you will not hearken unto the voice of
the Lord thy God, to observe to do ALL his commandments which I
command thee this day: that all these CURSES shall come upon thee ..."

Sin is disobediance to the Torah. In Ezekiel 18:4 it tells
us the consequence of being disobediant to the Torah and sinning"

"... the soul that sinneth is shall die ..."

In Psalm 14:3 it tells us that there is NONE that does good.

"... there is none that doeth good, no not one"

          In Isaiah 59:12-13, 16:

"For our transgressions are multiplied before thee, and our sins
testify against us: for our transgressions are with us: and as for our
iniquities, we know them. In transgressing and lying against the Lord,
and departing away from our God, speaking oppression and revolt
conceiving and uttering from the heart words of falsehood ... and he
saw that there was NO MAN and wondered that there was NO INTERCESSOR:
therefore, his ARM brought salvation (YESHUA) unto him: and his
righteousness it sustained him".

                   In Isaiah 64:6:

"But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousness are as
filthy rags ..."

Therefore, we see that according to the Torah and the
Prophets and the Writings, there is no man righteous before G-d
according to man's own merit. Therefore, G-d put in a sacrificial
system to atone for our sins. The heart of the sacrificial system was
the shedding of BLOOD upon the ALTAR.  When this was done by the high
priest, the sins of the people were atoned by G-d. The blood of
animals could only be accepted by G-d to ATONE (cover) sin. However,
the blood of Yeshua did not just ATONE (cover) sin, it REMITTED our
sins.

             Matthew 26:28:

"For this is the blood of the new testament which is shed for many for
the remission of sins"

             Romans 3:25:

"Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his
blood to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are
past ..."

#2) Accept G-d's Atonement for the soul (that sins) and follow the
Torah of G-d by FAITH according to GRACE

As described above, because we cannot merit righteousness in
G-d's eyes by our own efforts and good deeds, G-d has provided the
shedding of blood for the remission of sins. He set this forth in type
and shadow in the Torah through the Levitical sacrificial system and
fulfilled spiritually by the shed blood of Yeshua/Jesus upon the tree.
By repenting of sins and by faith accepting the shed blood of Yeshua/
Jesus to forgive us of our sins,  G-d extends grace toward us and we
are forgiven of our sins.

The goal of the instruction that G-d gave in the
Levitical system in type and shadow was to lead us to the knowledge of
Messiah by recognizing our own faults and understanding that we by
ourselves do not measure up to the standard of G-d. In Romans 10:4:

"For Christ is the end (goal/target) of the Torah for righteousness to
every one that believes"

G-d required the shedding of blood to atone/remit our
sins.  G-d didn't take pleasure in the physical animal suffering
death. What desired was for His people to worship Him with sincerity
of heart.

             Hebrews 10:4-7:

"For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and goats should take
away sins. Wherefore, when he cometh into the world, he saith,
Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body has thou prepared
me. In burnt offerings and sacrifes for sin you have no pleasure. Then
said, I, Lo, I come in the volume of the book it is written of me) to
do thy will, O God"

As G-d spoke through David, He desires truth in the
inward parts (Psalm 51:6) and G-d requires a clean heart (Psalm
51:10).

From Jeff:
************

Please know that my faith is growing daily. I have asked these two
questions with a sincere heart for learning and dialogue. The message
of the gospel was used by the Almighty in my life and in the lives of
many friends. My concern is that Jesus on the tree has become like the
serpent on the pole (Num 21:8f) that was carried around for centuries
as an idol, until Hezekiah (2 Kings 18:4) recognized what it had
become to the people. Originally used to heal the people when they
looked on it but then the people worshipped it.

From Eddie:
**************

The idolatry is carrying Yeshua/Jesus around on a
stick/pole and trusted in that as your salvation. G-d desires for
Yeshua/Jesus to be in our hearts. By accepting Yeshua/Jesus into our
hearts and lives and making Him Savior and Lord of our lives is our
salvation.

From Jeff:

Please take your time to respond. I am familiar with the gospels and
epistles and would appreciate your answers based on the tanach.

May His Kingdom come, may His will be done here on earth
shalom to you and may He be exalted

Eddie, just a note, y'shua means G-d's salvation for his people;
saved, healed and delivered.

Amen! By accepting Yeshua/Jesus as our salvation, we are
saved, healed and delivered from the bondages of the enemy!
