Subject: Lost Tribes in Britain and France

Extract from "Ephraim" (ch.8) by Yair Davidy

THE PROPHET OBADIAH AND THE LOST TEN TRIBES IN FRANCE AND BRITAIN.
OBADIAH Says:

"And the captivity of this host of the children of Israel shall
posses that of the Canaanites, even unto Zarephath; and the captivity of
Jerusalem, which is in Sepharad, shall possess the cities of the
south.

"And saviours shall come up on mount Zion to judge the mount of
Esau; and the kingdom shall be the LORD's" (Obadiah 1;20-21).

The above translation is from the King James (KJ) version. The
Hebrew original is capable of additional nuances of meaning.
Zarephath was the name of a township on the coast of Lebanon,
"Zarephath which belongeth to Zidon" (1-Kings 17;9). "Zarephath" was
also the name given in later Hebrew to France and its neighborhood.
"Zarephath" is mentioned in the Book of Obadiah (1;20) in connection
with the exile of the children of Israel:

"The captivity of this host of the children of Israel shall possess
that of the Canaanites unto Zarepath.."

According to a composite explanation based on Rabbinical Commentators
the above verse may actually be understood to say:

"This first exile [of the Lost Ten Tribes] who reach from the Land of
Canaanites [i.e. Germany] to Zeraphath [France and Britain].."

The Hebrew word ("Chail") translated in the KJ as "host" can also
mean "first" and most Jewish Commentators seem to have understood the
verse to refer to the first exile which was that of the Lost Ten Tribes.
They also tended to understand the place-name "Zarephath" (in this
case) as referring to France and its area or to France and England
together and thus either expressly  or  by implication to link the
Lost Ten Tribes with these western regions.

Classical Jewish Traditional Commentators interpreted the Hebrew
passage of the first part of the above excerpt as saying:

"And this first exile of the children of Israel who are (positioned)
from the Canaanites  to Zarephath..."*o

The words of the traditional Jewish Rabbinical Commentators on this
verse will now be quoted with a bare minimum of explanation. Suffice
it to say that their opinions are based on substance and confirmed from
other sources:

Rashi (Rabbi Solomon ben Isaac, 1040-1105, Champagne, France):

"The first exile of the children of Israel who were exiled from the
Ten Tribes to the land of Canaanites unto Zarephath...The exegetes say
that Zarephath means  the Kingdom called `France' in common
language.."

i.e. Rashi says that the Lost Ten Tribes are in France!

 Iben Ezra, Abraham (1092-1167, Spain):

" `..from the Canaanites': We have heard from great men that the land
of Allemagne [i.e.Germany] are the Canaanites who fled from before the
children of Israel  when they came into the land. So too, Zeraphath
means France...",

Ramban (Nachmanides, Rabbi Mosheh ben Nachman, 1194-1270, Spain; from
"The Book of Redemption", chapter 1.):

"The vision of Obadiah ..The house of Joseph refers to the Ten
Tribes ...who were exiled and still are in their place of exile, the exile of
Zarephath and Chanaan which are in the farthest north..."

A definite message is derivable from the above Commentatories taken
as a complementary whole. The import may be understood to be that the Lost
Ten Tribes are still in exile in the Land of France from (including or
bordering upon) Germany which includes amongst its composite ethnic
elements  those who descend from the ancient Chanaanites. A Chanaanite
(or other) descent for part of the Germans does not contradict their
belonging to Edom, since the identification with Edom relates to the
leading classes, elite dominating groups, and national imposed
character whereas the other is concerned more with straightforward
general physical desscent.

Don Isaac ben Yehudah Abarbanel, (1437-1508, Spain) has a somewhat
different explanation than the others. On some points his commentary
is worthy of consideration in the light of the above:

"Zeraphath  is France and so too the exile of Sepharad is Spain..and
let you not err just because  Zeraphath [i.e. France] is spoken of and
Angleterre [i.e. England] is not recalled, for there too did the
exiles go, for lo and behold, that island is considered a part of
Zarephath  and in the beginning belonged to it and in their ancient
books they call it the Isle of Zarephath [i.e. of France] even though
it later separated itself from Zarephath [France] and became a kingdom
in its own right.

"....And maybe the intention is too to those Children of Israel who
completely left Religion due to the weight of troubles and
persecutions and they remain in France and in Spain in their thousands
and tens of thousands, huge communities. They shall return and request
the LORD their God.." (Abarbanel on Obadiah).

OBADIAH    -Summarised:

In general Obadiah prophesies against Edom (Germany, Rome, and
their European associates) which had no mercy on "Jacob".
Obadiah predicts that the House of JOSEPH will destroy Edom, i.e.
Esau. He says that the First Exile (i.e. of the Ten Northern Tribes) will in
the latter days border on the Canaanites to Zarephath. This means
according to Rabbinical Commentators (such as Eben Ezra, Radak, Rashi,
Abarbanel) areas extending from the borders of Germany and including
France. Don Isaac Abarbanel (in two different places: on the Book of
Kings and on Obadiah) emphasised his opinion that the term "Zarephath"
includes the Isle of Britain as well as France.

The above Commentators did not necessarily in every case comprehend
the significance of their own interpretations. They simply interpreted the
Biblical verses according to what they perceived as the
straight-forward meaning in the light of their own knowledge. It is
not (at present) fully certain whether they themselves actually
consciously realised that the LOST TEN TRIBES were amongst the
Gentiles in the above areas. - Nevertheless, these Commentaries taken
at face value most easily do lend themselves to a "Lost Ten Tribes In
Western Europe" interpretation. The Interpreters quoted above are
considered in some degree to have been inspired and therefore were
capable of insights whose import they were not necessarily fully aware
of.

Lost Tribes/Commentary:  DOES THE BIBLICAL PROPHET OVADIAH SAY THAT
SOME OF THE LOST TRIBES WOULD GO TO SPAIN AND FRANCE?

(excerpted from Judaica Books of the Prophets, The Book of the Twelve
Prophets, Volume One, Judaica Press, New York, 1986, Translation of
text, Rashi and Commentary, and Edited by Rabbi A.J. Rosenberg, pages
178-79)

JERUSALEM, D.C. (David's Capital), Yom Shlishi (Third Day --
"Tuesday"), 4 Iyar, 5760 (Gregorian Date:  May 9 2000)

THE BIBLE SAYS:

"And this exiled host of the children of Israel who are with the
Canaanites as far as Zarepath and the exile of Jerusalem which is in
Sepharad shall inherit the cities of the southland.  (Ovadiah 1:20)

THE RABBIS COMMENT:

1.  "And this exiled host"

Hebrew:  HaChail.

Jonathan renders:  This people.  HaChail.  An expression of a host.
Cf. (Isaiah 36:2) "And he came (sic) to Jerusalem with an army
(Chayal) of a great multitude", which deals with Rabshakeh, only that
this one is missing a "yud".

[Note that Isaiah 36:2 reads:  "And the king of Assyria sent Rabshakeh
from Lachish to Jerusalem with an army of a great (multitude)".  Also,
II Kings 18:17 reads:  "And the king of Assyria sent...from Lachish to
Jerusalem with an army of great (multitude)".  The verse quoted by
Rashi is found nowhere in Scriptures.  In any case, as Redak too
explains, Rashi's intention is that Chayal, without a "yud", is
synonymous with Chayal spelled with a "yud".  It means host or army.
Although it is usually vowelized Chayal, we find those two incidents
in which it is vowelized Chayal.  Therefore, it is possible that
Chayal, spelled defectively, has the same meaning].  It is also
possible to explain Galut HaChayal as "the exile of this valley". --
Rashi.

2.  "who are with the Canaanites as far as Zarephath"

The exile which is of the children of Israel who were exiled from the
ten tribes to the land of the Canaanites as far as Zarephath --
[Rashi].  See below for explanation.

3.  "and the exile of Jerusalem which is in Sepharad"

Who are of the people of Judah who were exiled to Sepharad -- they
shall inherit the cities of the southland, which are in the southern
part of Eretz Israel.  The exegetes claim that Zarephath is the
kingdom called France in French -- [Rashi].

4.  "Sepharad"

Jonathan renders:  Spain -- [Rashi].

Ibn Ezra and Redak explain that, when Joshua entered the Holy Land,
some Canaanites fled to Germany.  When Titus exiled the Jews from the
Holy Land, he exiled many of them to Germany and Slavinia, the
residents of Jerusalem to Spain, and others to other countries of the
Roman Empire.  From there, they spread voluntarily to other countries.
Jonathan, therefore, renders: "And the exile of this people of the
children of Israel who are in the land of the Canaanites as far as
Zarephath."

5.  "shall inherit the cities of the southland"

These are the cities of Judah, for Judah's territory was in the south
of Eretz Israel.  The intention is that the tribe of Judah shall
return to its original territory and repossess its cities.

Abarbanel denies the authenticity of the testimony that Germany was
settled by the Canaanites.  He prefers to render:  "And the first of
this exile of the children of Israel, which is like the Canaanites (in
that they were compelled to flee their land), as far as France, and
the exile of Jerusalem, which is in Spain, shall inherit the cities of
the southland. I.e. those who were exiled to these countries, who
suffered the most in exile, will return first to inherit the cities of
Edom in the south of Eretz Israel.  Although there are no Jews in
these countries today, the reference is to those whose ancestors were
exiled there.

Malbim explains that the first tribe to be exiled, viz. Dan, will
inherit Tyre and Sidon, which will be added to Eretz Israel as far as
Zarephath that belonged to Sidon, as in I Kings 21; and the exile of
Jerusalem, who later settled in Spain, will inherit their own
territory in the southern part of Eretz Israel.

Subject: Lost Tribes and Micah 2 Commentary

Micah-2

Micah-1 dealt with Micah chapters 1 & 2. A few more words are in order
about these chapters before continuing to Micah chapter 3.

More words on Micah chapters 1 &2:

[MIC 1:13] O THOU INHABITANT OF LACHISH, BIND THE CHARIOT TO THE SWIFT
BEAST: SHE IS THE BEGINNING OF THE SIN TO THE DAUGHTER OF ZION: FOR
THE TRANSGRESSIONS OF ISRAEL WERE FOUND IN THEE.

In Hebrew Lachish rhymes with "rachish" (=chariot).
Lachish was in the southwest of Judah near the coast.
King Amaziah of Judah (2-Kings 14) was originally a righteous man. He
fought against Edom and killed many Edomites but later (according to a
tradition) he  worshipped the god of Seir (Edom). He was deposed  and
replaced by his 16 year old son Azariah. Amaziah fled to Lachish where
he continued to reign for 14v years. . When he died it says they
brought him on horses to Jerusalem. The Malbim explains "horses" to
mean the sun chariot which was connected to the worship of the sun
hinted at in the above words "THOU INHABITANT OF LACHISH, BIND THE
CHARIOT TO THE SWIFT BEAST". The Malbim reports: "THE TRANSGRESSIONS
OF ISRAEL WERE FOUND IN THEE" - <The worship of the sun which was part
of the transgressins of the 10 Tribes were found in you>. IN
Scandinavia a very impressive sun chariot dating from the Bronze Age
has been found and is depicted in most works on Scandinavian
archaeology.

[MIC 1:14] THEREFORE SHALT THOU GIVE PRESENTS TO MORESHETH-GATH: THE
HOUSES OF ACHZIB SHALL BE A LIE TO THE KINGS OF ISRAEL.    Moresheth
connotes receiving, cf. Give presents. Achzib = disappoint. cf. Lie.

The Commentary "Metzudat David" says Achzib (in the south of Judah)
had belonged to Judah but had rebelled against the King of Judah and
had attached itself to the northern Kingdom of Israel.

[MIC 1:16] MAKE THEE BALD, AND POLL THEE FOR THY DELICATE CHILDREN;
ENLARGE THY BALDNESS AS THE EAGLE; FOR THEY ARE GONE INTO CAPTIVITY
FROM THEE.

Here the main theme is Samaria meaning Menasseh and a bald-headed eage
is mentioned. In Micah chapter 5 Ephraim is spoken of and is likened
to a lion! Compart the bald-headed eagle symbol  of the USA. Though
the symbol of Britain is a lion and a unicorn people usually refer to
the glory of Britain as, "The British lion."

[MIC 2:13] THE BREAKER IS COME UP BEFORE THEM: THEY HAVE BROKEN UP,
AND HAVE PASSED THROUGH THE GATE, AND ARE GONE OUT BY IT: AND THEIR
KING SHALL PASS BEFORE THEM AND THE LORD ON THE HEAD OF THEM.

This is connected to the  promise of re-union and restoration in the
Latter Times.

Subject: LOST ISRAELITE IDENTITY

Now Available:

"LOST ISRAELITE IDENTITY"
(The Hebraic Ancestry of Celtic Races) by Yair Davidy
(author of "The Tribes" and of "Ephraim" )..

Many peoples of West European descent are of Celtic origin -at least
in part. "LOST ISRAELITE IDENTITY" reveals that amongst the Celts (and
other West Europeans) were Israelite Tribes who had been exiled, and
in the course of time had migrated westward. They had changed much of
their religion and culture. Nevertheless they still often retained
traditions of their Israelite Identity as well as Israelite Tribal and
Clan names and some linguistic features. It is possible to trace the
paths of their migration from the Middle East westward and their
subsequent development. This means in effect that many people in the
west today are physically Hebrews. Some will not like this idea  nor
its implications but this book is for those who have an open mind and
are prepared to face serious conceptual challenge. This is an exciting
and important work.

Using proofs derived from archaeological research, Biblical
evidence, mythology, and Classical Writings "LOST ISRAELITE IDENTITY" provides a
framework of evidence in which each field complements the other. In
years to come the truth of "LOST ISRAELITE IDENTITY" will become more
and more apparent. Whatever other evidence is revealed this present
book will probably remain the basic work in this field.

"LOST ISRAELITE IDENTITY" is divided into three sections:
1. It is described how ten out of the original 12 Tribes separated
from the others and formed their own kingdom in the north the
inhabitants of which were all exiled by the Assyrians. In their places
of exile the Israelites became identified with the Cimmerians,
Scythians, and Goths. The Cimmerians in an Assyrian inscription were
referred to as "Amurru" meaning in effect at that time as ISRAELITES!
The different exiled Israelite groups eventually migrated in stages to
the north and west. The emphasis in "LOST ISRAELITE IDENTITY" is on
the Cimmerians and the Celtic peoples many of whom were of
Israelite-Cimmerian derivation.

2. The second part of "LOST ISRAELITE
IDENTITY" consists of historical flashbacks in time followed by
further analysis of the Assyrian-directed exile. The historical
phenomena studied have significance concerning the ultimate destiny of
the Exiles and add depth to the rest of the evidence adduced in "LOST
ISRAELITE IDENTITY". The ancient Hebrew-Israelites were descended from
Shem from whom came the Sumerians in Mesopotamia, founders of early
civilisation. Abraham the first Hebrew was a wandering prince whose
descendants went down into Egypt where they became identified with the
"Hycsos" shepherd-kings. After being enslaved they were freed from
Egypt and journeyed to Canaan which they conquered gaining dominance
over most of the Middle East. They established settlements in north
Syria as well as in "Palestine" proper. They influenced Greek and
Egyptian history and are identifiable with the "Sea-Peoples". Some
Israelite Tribes participated in Phoenician maritime activity and
early western contacts (reaching as far as Scandinavia) were
established.

Later Israel was conquered and "LOST ISRAELITE IDENTITY" relates how
the Assyrians not only exiled most of the Israelites to the north
where they became identifiable with the Cimmerians and company. They
also took control of the Phoenician sea-faring set-up and through its
agency transported Israelites directly to the west and re-settled them
in Spain and elsewhere. In the course of time the exiles in Spain
linked up with their Hebrew brethren in the Cimmerian-Celtic forces
that advanced overland from the Middle East. From Spain they moved out
into Gaul and the British Isles. Evidence for most of the above is
mainly derived from Biblical, archaeological, and written sources, all
of which are adequately referenced.

3. The third part of "LOST ISRAELITE IDENTITY" shows how Celtic (mainly Irish) legends confirm
all of the account given above sometimes going into precise detail.
Often information is given in these legends that has only recently
confirmed by archaeology etc. This proves the truth of their
tradition. The Celts preserved names of Hebrew Tribes and places. In
the Celtic languages of the British Isles there is an underlying
Semitic grammatical structure. Much of the vocabulary of Welsh is
Hebrew. In the past, from pre-Christian times, some of the ancient
Irish, Scotts, and Welsh practised aspects of the Mosaic Law and in
Scotland continued to do so until fairly recently.

Overall, "LOST ISRAELITE IDENTITY" definitely does prove that
amongst the ancient Celtic peoples there must have been many of Israelite descent
who were qualitatively significant.

The information contained in "LOST ISRAELITE IDENTITY" is essential
in order to understand the true past (and future destiny) of peoples
in Northwest Europe and especially those of the British Isles and
their kin over the seas.

The book (like all our works) contains extremely important
information that is either not available elsewhere or is otherwise
difficult to obtain. Nevertheless all facts given are verifiable.
An Appendix of "LOST ISRAELITE IDENTITY" gives verbatim extracts from
Celtic Mythology so that the really-interested (or sceptical) reader
may judge for himself the veracity of Israelite origin as affirmed in
the pages of "LOST ISRAELITE IDENTITY" .

"LOST ISRAELITE IDENTITY" has 452 pages including Maps and
Illustrations.

We repeat, "LOST ISRAELITE IDENTITY" contains validly-referenced
proofs that can be academically verified and VITAL information that is
almost unavailable elsewhere.

"LOST ISRAELITE IDENTITY" has an Approbation from RABBI ABRAHAM FELD
of the Maccabee Institute in Jerusalem, Israel.

Subject: The Tribes

THE TRIBES (2nd edition)
THE TRIBES contains information you need to know!

Ten out of the Twelve Tribes of ancient Israel were exiled by the
Assyrians and taken to the North. They lost their identity and became
identified with the Cimmerians, Scythians, and Goths. The Scythians
rebelled against Assyria, then became partners of the Assyrians, and
in the end they first took over the Assyrian Empire and then destroyed
it. They were allied with the Medes and Babylonians who betrayed them,
massacred their leaders, and drove them northward into what was once
known as Scythia and later as the USSR.  The Bible and Talmud discuss
these events and attribute the deeds of the Scythians to the Lost
Tribes of Israel thus identifying the two. This is confirmed by a
similarity of tribal names, local Jewish legends, and archaeological
findings. From the Middle East and Scythia these peoples migrated en
masse westward where they were known as Celts, Angles, Saxons, Jutes,
Franks, Vandals, Goths, and Vikings. One Scythian people of Israelite
origin were the Khazars some of who crossed the Sea to Scotland and
became known as the Picts.  Those of the Khazars who remained in the
Steppe area converted to Judaism. The Celtic peoples of the west
represent earlier waves of Israelite migration, some of which came by
way of the sea and via Spain.  The Celts were linked to the Cimmerians
who were also of Israelite origin and arrived in Western Europe by an
overland route. Celtic legends and ancestral names affirm their Hebrew
origins.

The Tribal identifications followed a more or less set pattern.
Distinct Israelite groups can be located according to names and legend etc., in
areas to which the Assyrians exiled them or to which they moved
shortly after being exiled. The paths of migration of the said peoples
can then be traced. It is noticed how in most cases various elements
and clans from the same original Israelite Tribe independently over
the course of time went to the same regions in the west and in the end
formed single nations.

The relevant peoples trace directly back to Scythia (Eurasia) and
from there to places-of-exile of Israelites in the Middle East. These
tribal-equations are confirmed by the examination of additional
evidence. THE TRIBES of Joseph (Ephraim and Menasseh) became the
determining factor in the English-speaking nations.

Scriptural passages verify the identification of the Lost Tribes as a
whole, as well as those especially of Joseph in America, Britain, and
amongst descendants of the British overseas. It was prophesied that
the Lost Ten Tribes would be in the Isles of the Sea, at the
extremities of Continents, in the north, seafaring and powerful,
possessors of strategic international thoroughfares, wealthy, and
blessed. They would be military formidable and all nations of the
earth would defer to them. They were to become extremely numerous and
to be a civilizing element amongst the peoples. All of these factors
and others are discussed and it is shown how only peoples of British
origin fulfilled all of them. In THE TRIBES some
physical-anthropological characteristics of the ancient Israelites are
considered. The ancient Hebrews contained both dark and fair elements
and in some regions one type was more dominant than the other. Later
environmental influence is also important in considering this issue as
discussed at length. THE TRIBES describes the processes of migration.
By tracing Tribal and Clan Names and tribal characteristics THE TRIBES
homes in on individual Israelite Tribes. Different sections of these
tribes tended (as if moved by an Unseen Hand) to converge on the same
areas. Biblical, Talmudic, and related sources are shown to confirm
these identifications. National-characteristics of specific West
European and related peoples often correspond to those of the Hebrew
Tribe that settled amongst them. THE TRIBES has 490 pages.
THE TRIBES is packed full of interesting, informative maps and
illustrations.  THE TRIBES (2nd edition) contains a detailed index,
more maps, illustrations, new facts, and an improved text.  The first
edition was good, the second one is better. THE TRIBES may be obtained
