Subject: Two Houses and the New Testament (Part II)

MORE TWO HOUSES AND THE NEW TESTAMENT

In reading this article, I would also encourage you to read and study again the article that I sent out last week entitled, "The Two Houses and the New Testament". I would like to continue with this study and share further insights and gleanings of the two house restoration from the words of Yeshua/Jesus the Messiah and from the Epistles.

WHEN WILL THE KINGDOM BE RESTORED TO ISRAEL?

The disciples of the Messiah had a concept of the restoration of both houses of Israel and KNEW that both houses of Israel would be restored by the Messiah.  The restoration of both houses of Israel (Ezekiel 37:15-28) is called by the names of the Ingathering of the Exiles / Messianic redemption or the restoration of both houses of Israel. It has been a teaching for thousands of years within Judaism that the Messiah would reunite both houses of Israel based upon many prophecies in the writings of the prophets including Isaiah 49:5-6 as it is written:

Isaiah 49:5 And now, saith the LORD that formed me from the womb to be his servant, to bring Jacob again to him, Though Israel be not gathered, yet shall I be glorious in the eyes of the LORD, and my God shall be my strength.

Isaiah 49:6 And he said, It is a light thing that thou shouldest be MY SERVANT to RAISE UP  THE TRIBES OF JACOB, and to restore the preserved of Israel: I will also give thee for a LIGHT TO THE GENTILES, that thou mayest be my salvation unto the end of the earth.

The disciples understood this teaching and KNEW that the Messiah would come and reunite both houses of Israel. After being seen by many for a total of 40 days including the disciples after His resurrection and KNOWING that Yeshua/Jesus was / is the Messiah of Israel, they asked the Messiah WHEN and IF He was going to reunite both houses of Israel following His resurrection. The disciples asked the Messiah this question in Acts 1:6 as it is written:

Acts 1:6 When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt THOU at THIS TIME  RESTORE AGAIN the kingdom to Israel?

Because the disciples didn't know for sure when the reuniting of both houses of Israel would take place, the Messiah didn't tell them directly WHEN it would happen. He only told the disciples HOW the restoration of both houses of Israel would take place. The answer of the Messiah is given in Acts 1:7-8 as it is written:

Acts 1:7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.

Acts 1:8 But ye shall RECEIVE POWER, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be WITNESSES unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

The Messiah gave an ANSWER to a QUESTION. The QUESTION was 'When will the Kingdom be restored to Israel'? The ANSWER was that it will be a work of the Holy Spirit when individuals RECEIVE POWER to be a WITNESSES of this restoration of the Kingdom (reunification of both houses of Israel).

This empowering would take place in Jerusalem and the message would  ultimately  be taken "to the ends of the earth".

PETER PREACHES MESSIAH AND THE RESTORATION OF BOTH HOUSES OF ISRAEL

The empowering of believers to be a WITNESS of the restoration of both houses of Israel took place on the day of Pentecost / Shavuot in Acts 2. As the outpouring of the Holy Spirit was taking place, Peter preached a message to them which primarily consisted of two parts:

#1) That Yeshua/Jesus is Messiah based upon the prophecies in the Torah and the Prophets

#2) Messiah died on the tree to bring about the restoration of both houses of Israel

PETER PREACHES THAT  YESHUA / JESUS IS MESSIAH BASED UPON THE PROPHECIES

Peter proclaimed that Yeshua / Jesus was / is the Jewish Messiah based upon the prophecies in the Torah and the prophets. In Acts 2:22-35 it is written:

Acts 2:22 Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye
yourselves also know: 23 Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain: 24 Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it. 25 For David speaketh concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved: 26 Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope: 27 Because thou wilt not
leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. 28 Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance. 29 Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day. 30 Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne; 31 He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption. 32 This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses. 33 Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear. 34 For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, 35 Until I make thy foes thy footstool.

YESHUA / JESUS IS THE MESSIAH OF BOTH HOUSES OF ISRAEL

Peter proclaims that Yeshua/Jesus is the Messiah of both houses of Israel. In Acts 2:36, 39 it is written:

Acts 2:36 Therefore let ALL the HOUSE OF ISRAEL know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.

Acts 2:39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, (THE HOUSE OF JUDAH / Southern Kingdom) and to all that are afar off, (THE HOUSE OF ISRAEL / Northern Kingdom) even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

The house of Judah in exile  is called "near" and the house of Israel in exile in called "afar off" based upon Daniel 9:7 as it is written:

Daniel 9:7 O Lord, righteousness belongeth unto thee, but unto us confusion of faces, as at this day; to the MEN OF JUDAH, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and unto ALL ISRAEL, that are NEAR, and that are FAR OFF, through all the countries whither thou hast driven them, because of their trespass that they have trespassed against thee.

THE CALLING OF THE APOSTLE PAUL

The Apostle Paul was called in Acts 9 after a divine encounter with the Messiah and was given the revelation that he was a "chosen vessel" to carry out the divine mandate to preach the restoration of both houses of Israel "to the ends of the earth".  In Acts 9:1-6 it is written?

Acts 9:1 And Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest,

2 And desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem.

3 And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven:

4 And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?

5 And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks.

6 And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do.

In Acts 9:15, the Apostel Paul was told by the Messiah that he was a chosen vessel and that he had a special task to do for the Messiah.

Acts 9:15 But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a CHOSEN VESSEL unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel:

The Apostle Paul duty was to preach that Yeshua/Jesus was / is the Messiah based upon the prophecies in the Torah and the prophets and to preach the restoration of both houses of Israel.

PAUL  PREACHES THAT  YESHUA / JESUS IS MESSIAH BASED UPON THE TORAH AND PROPHETS

In Acts 9:19-20, the Apostle Paul is given the task to preach Messiah in the synagogues as it is written:

Acts 9:19 And when he had received meat, he was strengthened. Then was Saul certain days with the disciples which were at Damascus.

20 And straightway he PREACHED CHRIST in the SYNAGOGUES, that he is the Son of God.

In Acts 28:16-17,

Acts 28:16 And when we came to Rome, the centurion delivered the prisoners to the captain of the guard: but Paul was suffered to dwell by himself with a soldier that kept him.

17 And it came to pass, that after three days Paul called the chief of the Jews together: and when they were come together, he said unto them, Men and brethren, though I have committed nothing against the people, or customs of our fathers, yet was I delivered prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans.

21 And they said unto him, We neither received letters out of Judaea concerning thee, neither any of the brethren that came shewed or spake any harm of thee.

22 But we desire to hear of thee what thou thinkest: for as concerning this sect, we know that every where it is spoken against.

23 And when they had appointed him a day, there came many to him into his lodging; to whom he EXPOUNDED and TESTIFIED the kingdom of God, PERSUADING them concerning JESUS, both out of the LAW of MOSES, and out of the PROPHETS, from morning till evening.

PAUL  PREACHES THE RESTORATION OF BOTH HOUSES OF ISRAEL

In Acts 26:6-7, the Apostle Paul is seen preaching and proclaiming the restoration of both tribes of Israel as it is written:

Acts 26:6 And now I stand and am judged for the hope of the promise made of God unto our fathers:

7 Unto which PROMISE our TWELVE TRIBES, instantly serving God day and night, HOPE TO COME. For which hope's sake, king Agrippa, I am accused of the Jews.

What was this promise? It was / is the restoration of the Kingdom to Israel which the disciples asked Yeshua/Jesus in Acts 1:6 which is prophecied in Isaiah 49:5-6 and many other places in the writings of the prophets.

THE MESSAGE IS PREACHED TO THE "ENDS OF THE EARTH"

The Apostle Paul in his missionary journeys preaching that Yeshua/Jesus is the Messiah based upon the prophecies in the Torah and the writings of the prophets and the restoration of both houses of Israel went to many places including Corinth, Rome and Spain. In Romans 15:24 it it written:

Romans 15:24 Whensoever I take my journey into SPAIN, I will come to you: for I trust to see you in my journey, and to be brought on my way thitherward by you, if first I be somewhat filled with your company.

Spain would be considered euphemistically speaking the "ends of the earth" as well as other places in Europe such as the British Isles. The prophets tell us that the Ten Tribes would be located in the "isles" (ends of the earth). In Isaiah 42:1-4, it is told to us that ISLES "ends of the earth" would wait upon the Torah of the SERVANT OF THE LORD (the Messiah)  being preached to them. In Isaiah 49:1-4 it is written:

Isaiah 42:1 Behold MY SERVANT, whom I uphold; mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth; I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles.

2 He shall not cry, nor lift up, nor cause his voice to be heard in the street.

3 A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench: he shall bring forth judgment unto truth.

4 He shall not fail nor be discouraged, till he have set judgment in the earth: and the ISLES shall WAIT for HIS LAW.

In Isaiah 49:1, 5-6 it is written:

Isaiah 49:1 Listen, O ISLES, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from FAR; The LORD hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name.

Those who were "far off" (the Northern Kingdom / houses of Israel) were scattered to the ISLES. They were to wait on the preaching of the MESSIAH and His TORAH and the preaching of the restoration of both houses of Israel.

In Jeremiah 31:6-11 it is written:

Jeremiah 31:6 For there shall be a day, that the watchmen upon the mount Ephraim shall cry, Arise ye, and let us go up to Zion unto the LORD our God.

7 For thus saith the LORD; Sing with gladness for Jacob, and SHOUT among the chief of the nations: PUBLISH ye, praise ye, and say, O LORD, save thy people, the remnant of Israel.

8 Behold, I will bring them from the north country, and gather them from the coasts of the earth, and with them the blind and the lame, the woman with child and her that travaileth with child together: a great company shall return thither.

9 They shall come with weeping, and with supplications will I lead them: I will cause them to walk by the rivers of waters in a straight way, wherein they shall not stumble: for I am a father to
Israel, and EPHRAIM is my FIRSTBORN.

10 Hear the word of the LORD, O ye nations, and declare it in the ISLES AFAR OFF, and say, He that scattered Israel will gather him, and keep him, as a shepherd doth his flock.

In Isaiah 51:5 it is written:

Isaiah 51:5 My righteousness is near; MY SALVATION is gone forth, and mine arms shall judge the people; the ISLES shall wait upon me, and on MINE ARM shall THEY (ISLES)  TRUST.

So, it was prophesied in the prophets that those in the ISLES (ends of the earth) who were the Ten Lost Tribes would receive the message that Yeshua/Jesus was / is the Messiah. and the Biblical mandate was / is to preach Messiah and the restoration of both houses of Israel to the ISLES or "the ends of the earth". The Apostle Paul was a chosen vessel of the Messiah to perform this task.

PREACHING MESSIAH AND THE RESTORATION OF BOTH HOUSES OF ISRAEL IN THE  SYNAGOGUES

When the Apostle Paul preached Messiah and the restoration of both houses of Israel in the synogogues, there was in attendance in the synogogues Jews, proselyte and Gentile.

Acts 13:13 Now when Paul and his company loosed from Paphos, they came to Perga in Pamphylia: and John departing from them returned to Jerusalem.

14 But when they departed from Perga, they came to ANTIOCH in Pisidia, and went into the SYNAGOGUE on the SABBATH DAY, and sat down.

15 And after the READING of the LAW and the PROPHETS the rulers of the synagogue sent unto them, saying, Ye men and brethren, if ye have any word of exhortation for the people, say on.

42 And when the JEWS were gone out of the SYNAGOGUE, the GENTILES besought that these words might be preached to them the NEXT SABBATH.

43 Now when the congregation was broken up, many of the JEWS and religious PROSELYTES  followed Paul and Barnabas: who, speaking to them, persuaded them to continue in the grace of God.

45 But when the JEWS SAW the MULTITUDES, they were FILLED with ENVY, and SPAKE AGAINST those THINGS (Messiah and the restoration of both  houses of Israel) which were SPOKEN by PAUL, CONTRADICTING and blaspheming.

46 Then PAUL and Barnabas WAXED BOLD, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves
unworthy of everlasting life, LO, WE TURN to the GENTILES.

47 For so hath the Lord commanded us, saying, I have set thee to be a LIGHT of the GENTILES, that thou shouldest be for salvation unto the ENDS  OF THE EARTH.

In giving his reasoning to spend so much of his time and concentration on the "Gentiles" (assimilated house of Israel who were located in the ISLES and the "ends of the earth"), the Apostle Paul quotes from Isaiah 49:6 which speaks of the restoration of both houses of Israel as it is written:

Isaiah 49:6 And he said, It is a light thing that thou shouldest be MY SERVANT to RAISE UP  THE TRIBES OF JACOB, and to restore the preserved of Israel: I will also give thee for a LIGHT TO THE GENTILES, that thou mayest be my salvation unto the END OF THE EARTH.

Messiah in Acts 1:6 proclaimed that the restoration of the Kingdom to Israel (restoration of both houses of Israel) should be proclaimed first in Jerusalem, then in Judea-Samaria and then to the "ends of the earth" which is what Paul says in Acts 13:47 quoting from Isaiah 49:6.

WHY DIDN'T THE RESTORATION TAKE PLACE?

Did the preaching of Yeshua / Jesus being the Messiah and the restoration of both houses of Israel through the empowering of the Holy Spirit to be a WITNESS of this message beginning in Jerusalem then in Judea-Samaria and then to the "ends of the earth" take place as Messiah commanded? The answer is YES. Did the restoration and reunification of both houses of Israel takes place? The answer is NO. Then how do you explain what happened? In order to do so, you must understand the Hebraic concept of "HERE NOW, BUT NOT YET".

The preaching of Messiah and the restoration back to HIM for ALL those who believed both Jews and non-Jew DID take but the PHYSICAL restoration back to the LAND of ISRAEL did NOT take place. So, was the mission of the empowering of the believers in Acts 2 accomplished? The answer is YES but NOT in its FULLNESS. It was fulfilled "HERE NOW" (in part) but "NOT YET" (in its fullness).

When the God of Israel promised the children of Israel that He would redeem them from Egypt and take them into the land of Canaan and they would possess it, did it happen? The answer is YES (in part because they went in) but "NOT YET" (in its fullness) because the children of Israel NEVER conquered all the land of Canaan let alone the promise to Abraham from the Nile to the Euphrates.

THE FULLNESS OF THE PROMISE IS FOR A LATER TIME

Since the "restoration of the Kingdom to Israel" (Acts 1:6) only happened in PART (Here now) but NOT YET (in its fullness), the FULLNESS of the fulfillment is for a later time in the future. When does the prophets say that this future time will be? In the book of Hosea 6:1-3 it tells us that it will be in the THIRD DAY following the first coming of Messiah as it is written:

Hosea 6:1 Come, and let us return unto the LORD: for he hath torn, and he will heal us; he hath smitten, and he will bind us up.

2 After two days will he revive us: in the THIRD DAY he will RAISE US UP, and we shall live in his sight.

3 Then shall we know, if we follow on to know the LORD: HIS GOING FORTH is prepared as the morning; and HE SHALL COME unto us as the rain, as the latter and former rain unto the earth.

The "RAISE US UP" in Hosea 6:2 is a reference to the twelve tribes being "RAISED UP" in Isaiah 49:6 as it is written:

Isaiah 49:6 And he said, It is a light thing that thou shouldest be MY SERVANT to RAISE UP  THE TRIBES OF JACOB, and to restore the preserved of Israel: I will also give thee for a light to the Gentiles, that thou mayest be my salvation unto the end of the earth.

The THIRD DAY is a reference to the Messianic Era. The Messianic Era is called the DAY OF THE LORD and it begins in DARKNESS (the tribulation) and ends in LIGHT (the rule and reign of Messiah on the earth after He sets His feet down on the Mount of Olives in Zech 14:4).

The restoration of both houses of Israel back to the land of Israel will take place in the THIRD DAY or the DARKNESS (tribulation / birthpangs of the Messiah) part of the Messianic Era. This can be clearly seen in Joel 2:1 and Jeremiah 30:4-7. In Joel 2:1 it is written:

Joel 2:1 Blow ye the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in my holy mountain: let all the inhabitants of the land tremble: for the DAY OF THE LORD cometh, for it is nigh at hand;

Joel 2:2 A DAY of DARKNESS and of gloominess, a day of clouds and of thick darkness, as the morning spread upon the mountains: a great people and a strong; there hath not been ever the like, neither shall be any more after it, even to the years of many generations.

In Jeremiah 30:3-7 it tells us that the restoration of both houses of Israel will take place during the tribulation as it is written:

Jeremiah 30:3 For, lo, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will bring again the captivity of my people ISRAEL and JUDAH, saith the LORD: and I will cause them to RETURN to the LAND that I gave to their fathers, and they shall POSSESS IT.

WHEN does Israel AND Judah RETURN to the LAND of ISRAEL?

Jeremiah 30:4 And these are the words that the LORD spake concerning ISRAEL and concerning JUDAH. (BOTH houses of Israel)

5 For thus saith the LORD; We have heard a voice of trembling, of fear, and not of peace.

6 Ask ye now, and see whether a man doth travail with child? wherefore do I see every man with his hands on his loins, as a woman in travail, and all faces are turned into paleness?

7 Alas! for that day is great, so that none is like it: it is even the time of JACOB'S TROUBLE (not just JUDAH's trouble) ; but he shall be saved out of it.

Hosea 1:11 tells us that this return will be in the DAY OF JEZREEL (an idiom for the tribulation / birthpangs of the Messiah) as it is written:

Hosea 1:11 Then shall the children of JUDAH and the children of ISRAEL  be GATHERED TOGETHER, and appoint themselves one head, and they shall come up out of the land: for great shall be the DAY OF JEZREEL.

THE MESSIANIC REDEMPTION LIKE THE EGYPTIAN REDEMTION

In Hosea 2:14-15 this restoration and reunification of both houses of Israel is likened to the historical Egyptian redemption as it is written:

Hosea 2:14 Therefore, behold, I will allure her, and bring her into the wilderness, and speak comfortably unto her.

15 And I will give her her vineyards from thence, and the VALLEY of ACHOR (Achor in Hebrew means TROUBLE and it is a idiom / reference to the TRIBULATION which is also called JACOB'S TROUBLE)  for a door of hope: and she shall SING (Singing is an allusion to the Messianic Era and the Messianic redemption)  there, as in the days of her youth, and AS IN the DAY when she CAME UP OUT of the LAND of EGYPT.

In Malachi 7:15, it it written:

Micah 7:15 ACCORDING to the DAYS of thy coming out of the LAND of EGYPT will I shew unto him marvellous things.

Since we are at the dawn of the THIRD DAY, undoubtedly, this restoration is linked to the EVENTS of the PRESENT Israel / PLO "piece / peace" process and will in the fullness of time be an end-result of this struggle.

It is my plan and desire to send out another future article explaining further insights of the restoration of both houses of Israel in the teachings of Yeshua/Jesus in the Gosepels.

May God continue to bless you in your studies,
