Subject: Clean / Unclean in the NT
CLEAN / UNCLEAN IN THE NT
Lest we think we may have exhausted all the brit chadashah has to say about these matters, I would like to bring up several other instances of this subject found therein.
First among them is it is this concept of clean and unclean which gives the 'new testament' believer a basis for studying Torah.
2nd Corinthians 6:17 "Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith YHWH, and touch not the unclean [thing]; and I will receive you,"
It is the Torah which delineates for us that which is clean, and that which is not. If we are to come away from all false religion, aka 'depart from the whore of Babylon', then we as Israelites are enjoined to follow Torah in spirit and in practice (ritual). The Hebrew word for a whorish woman is a zonah. Tzon is a root which means 'will', and a zonah is therefore a self-willed or 'independant' woman. Self will is the opposite of self-control, a fruit of the Ruach haKodesh. The ultimate expression and determining factor of whether one is self-willed or self-controlled is in the area of sexual continency. Hence we are plainly told that in order for people to be set-apart unto YHWH, they must exhibit the fruit of the Ruach wich is manifested as self-control.
1st Thessalonians 4:1-7 Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort [you] by YHWH Yeshua, that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please Elohim, [so] ye would abound more and more. For ye know what commandments we gave you by YHWH Yeshua: For this is the will of Elohim, [even] your sanctification (set-apartness, me), that ye should abstain from fornication: That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification (set-apartness, me) and honour; not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not Elohim. That no [man] go beyond and defraud his brother in [any] matter: because that YHWH [is] the avenger of all such, as we also have forewarned you and testified. For Elohim hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness.
Before one can live in a state of perpetual sanctity one must first believe Yeshua did so. Many Christians who raise the objection 'no man can live without sinning' are in reality confessing their own perpetual incontinency. Because of their drivenness in compulsive sexual incontinency of all varieties, they refuse to believe that Yeshua lived as a mortal man on earth with all the resident tendencies and temptations of the flesh, yet he did so without sinning.
Hebrews 4:15 For we have not a Cohen haGadol which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as[we are, yet] without sin.
To rest in the completed work of Messiah, works which were finished when his flesh died on the cross and his dead flesh rested in the grave on Shabbat, means to stop doing ones own work. Those who truly believe the gospel in deed and not just in word, realize their sexual drive can be controlled by the Ruach. They reckon their members to be dead as Paul reccommended.
Romans 6:1-19 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? Elohim forbid! How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Yeshua Messiah were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Messiah was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also [in the likeness] of [his] resurrection: Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with [him], that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. For he that is dead is freed from sin. Now if we be dead with Messiah, we believe that we shall also live with him. Knowing that Messiah being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him. For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto Elohim. Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto Elohim through YHWH Yeshua Messiah. Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof Neither yield ye your members [as] instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto Elohim, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members [as] instruments of righteousness unto Elohim. For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. What then? Shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? Elohim forbid! Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? But Elohim be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you, being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness. I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness (i.e. sanctification, set-apartness).
The word flesh in English is related to its linguistic cognate phallus. The words 'philistine', from which we get the word Palestine, is forever associated with the wickedness of Canaanite culture which welcomes and encourages all varieties of immoral behaviors. Obelisks are the ancient symbol of sunworship because of their phallic symbolism. Today throughout the world nudity and promiscuity are promoted by beach culture throughout the world. Statistics indicate that 90% of humanity currently live with a half a days travel to a sea coast.
When Israel entered into the promised land, they were vexed by the Canaanites whom Israel refused to ultimately defeat. This has a spiritual parallel in that Yeshua has called us to the promised land of life in the spirit free from sin, but those who refuse to bring themselves under the dominion of the Ruach haKodesh are perpetually vexed in their flesh with an uncontrolled libido.
When Israel entered into eretz Canaan they were commanded not to take to themselves any accursed thing. These were articles devoted to false gods or involved in the worship of false gods by pagan religions.
Yehoshua 6:18 And ye, in any wise keep [yourselves] from the accursed thing, lest ye make[yourselves]accursed, when ye take of the accursed thing, and make the camp of Israel a curse, and trouble it.
In chapter 7 we see that Achan coveted a wedge of gold and a Babylonian garment (covering) and this caused all Israel to sin. Accursed things are contrasted with devoted things, things which Israel consecrated as set-apart unto YHWH's service being given to the priesthood.
Vayiqra 27:28 Notwithstanding no devoted thing, that a man shall devote unto YHWH of all that he hath, [both] of man and beast, and of the field of his possession, shall be sold or redeemed: every devoted thing [is] most holy untoYHWH.
Devarim 7:25-26 The graven images of their gods shall ye burn with fire: thou shalt not desire the silver or gold [that is] on them, nor take [it] unto thee, lest thou be snared therein: for it [is] an abomination to YHWH thy Elohim. Neither shalt thou bring an abomination into thine house, lest thou be a cursed thing like it: [but] thou shalt utterly detest it, and thou shalt utterly abhor it; for it [is]a cursed thing.
This brings up another interesting topic, abominable things. In Torah, we learn that creeping things and reptiles are called abominations as are sexually immoral peoples. We are what we worship, and if our eyes are fixed upon idols of our own making, if we lust in our hearts for anything that supplants an undivided love for YHWH, then our idols can be pictorialized in the forms of animals. Animals represent attitudes of the human heart for it was Adam who originally named all creatures whatever their names were. These names were reflections of feelings how each animal impacted Adam when he encountered them. A sloth reflects slothfulness, a leech one who sucks life (blood) out of others, etc.
Ezekiel 8:5-18 Then said he unto me, "Son of man, lift up thine eyes now the way toward the north." So I lifted up mine eyes the way toward the north, and behold northward at the gate of the altar this image of jealousy in the entry He said furthermore unto me, "Son of man, seest thou what they do?[even]the great abominations that the House of Israel committeth here, that I should go far off from my sanctuary? but turn thee yet again, [and] thou shalt see greater abominations." And he brought me to the door of the court; and when I looked, behold a hole in the wall, Then said he unto me, "Son of man, dig now in the wall:" and when I had digged in the wall, behold a door. And he said unto me, "Go in, and behold the wicked abominations that they do here." So I went in and saw; and behold every form of creeping things, and abominable beasts, and all the idols of the house of Israel, portrayed upon the wall round about.
And there stood before them seventy men of the elders of the House of Israel, and in the midst of them stood Yaazaniah the son of Shaphan, with every man his censer in his hand; and a thick cloud of incense went up. Then said he unto me, "Son of man, hast thou seen what the elders of the House of Israel do in the dark, every man in the chambers of his imagery? for they say, "YHWH seeth us not; YHWH hath forsaken the earth." " He said also unto me, "Turn thee yet again, [and] thou shalt see more abominations that they do." Then he brought me to the door of the gate of YHWH's house which [was] toward the north; and, behold, there sat women weeping for Tammuz. Then said he unto me, "Hast thou seen [this], O son of man? turn thee yet again, [and] thou shalt see more abominations than these." And he brought me into the inner court of YHWH's house, and, behold, at the door of the Beit haMikdash of YHWH, between the porch and the altar, [were] about five and twenty men, with their backs toward the Beit haMikdash of YHWH, and their faces toward the east; and they worshipped the sun toward the east. Then he said unto me, "Hast thou seen [this], O son of man? Is it a light thing to the House of Judah that they commit the abominations which they commit here? for they have filled the land with violence, and have returned to provoke me to anger: and, lo, they put the branch to their nose. Therefore will I also deal in fury: mine eye shall not spare, neither will I have pity: and though they cry in mine ears with a loud voice, [yet] will I not hear them."
When Israelites choose to give up their worship of YHWH, he gives them up to worship all of their abominations.
Romans 1:21 Because that, when they knew Elohim, they glorified [him] not as Elohim, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the uncorruptible Elohim into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. Wherefore Elohim also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves, who changed the truth of Elohim into a lie, and worshipped (lit. kept sabbath to, rested in, kept sabbath for) and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. For this cause Elohim gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. And even as they did not like to retain Elohim in [their] knowledge, Elohim gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, backbiters, haters of Elohim, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, without understanding, covenant-breakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful, who knowing the judgment of Elohim, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.
As previously mentioned, we are not to bring abominations into our houses according to the Torah. This would include everything from pet lizards and snakes to the mice we might want to raise to feed them. It would also include bringing homosexuals or other sexually immoral peoples into our homes as all of these are listed as abominations. In YHWH's house, which people often call the 'church', there are those who not only want to bring in the abomination, but 'ordain it as a priest unto holy service to god'. Satan the adversary is called a great red dragon and dragons are reptiles. If the research is done, I am sure that the serpent of Bereshit 3 is a dragon, a reptile. Reptiles have their sex organs located in their tails. They are cold blooded, prolific breeders. Snakes often give birth to broods of twenty offspring or more at once, each year, for several years of maturity. Writhing balls of snakes mating in orgiasitc fashion have been found on the Great Plains of the United States and Canada which can sometimes be longer than a quarter of a mile, containing millions of intertwined snakes, each not knowing or caring who is simultaneously in another. The Hebrew word for the tail of a reptile is zanab, a word related to zonah, a whorish woman. The adulterous relationship of the dragon to the Whore of Babylon is not unlike that of Ahab to Jezebel. This babylonish whore is supposed to be faithful to her own husband, but takes other lovers to herself while rejecting her own spouse. She encourages all under her influence to do as she does, thus liberalizing divorce / remarriage (giving and taking in marriage) and belief and propagation of lies (false doctrines).
Revelation 12:3-4 And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born.
This dragon will cause a third of angels to be cast out of the spirit realm to be imprisoned in the flesh bodies of those who know the truth and turn away from it. There is soon coming a demonic (fallen angelic) possession of 'christians' who forsake the sancification of their houses, their bodies, the temple of the Ruach haKodesh. This weeks Torah portion confirms the judgment process on such a dwelling, a habitation of devils.
Vayiqra 14:33-45 And YHWH spake unto Mosheh and unto Aharon, saying, " When ye be come into the land of Canaan, which I give to you for a possession, and I put the plague of leprosy in a house of the land of your possession; And he that owneth the house shall come and tell the priest, saying, "It seemeth to me [there is] as it were a plague in the house." Then the priest shall command that they empty the house, before the priest go [into it] to see the plague, that all that [is] in the house be not made unclean: and afterward the priest shall go in to see the house: And he shall look on the plague, and, behold, [if] the plague [be] in the walls of the house with hollow strakes, greenish or reddish, which in sight [are] lower than the wall; Then the priest shall go out of the house to the door of the house, and shut up the house seven days And the priest shall come again the seventh day, and shall look: and, behold, [if] the plague be spread in the walls of the house, then the priest shall command that they take away the stones in which the plague [is], and they shall cast them into an unclean place without the city: And he shall cause the house to be scraped within round about, and they shall pour out the dust that they scrape off without the city into an unclean place And they shall take other stones, and put [them] in the place of those stones; and he shall take other morter, and shall plaster the house. And if the plague come again, and break out in the house, after that he hath taken away the stones, and after he hath scraped the house, and after it is plaistered. Then the priest shall come and look, and, behold, [if] the plague be spread in the house, it [is] a fretting leprosy in the house: it [is] unclean. And he shall break down the house, the stones of it, and the timber thereof, and all the morter of the house; and he shall carry [them] forth out of the city into an unclean place."
This is the law of unclean houses.Yeshua observed this law, as a Cohen of the tribe of Levi, but as of Cohen haGadol of the tribe of Judah and of the House of David, when he prophetically declared such a judgment on the temple Herod built.
Matityahu 24:1-2 And Yeshua went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to [him] for to shew him the buildings of the temple. And Yeshua said unto them, " Behold ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down."
Mark 13:1-2 And as he went out of the temple, one of his disciples saith unto him, "Rabbi, see what manner of stones and what buildings [are here]!" And Yeshua answering said unto him, "Behold thou these great buildings? there shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down."
Luke 21:5-6 And as some spake of the temple, how it was adorned with goodly stones and gifts, he said, "[As for] these things which ye behold, the days will come, in the which there shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down."
Now stones and beams are doctrines and teachings and red and green streaks correspond to hatred and envy, to of the seven deadly sins. An individual who harbors these evile attitudes in their heart, reasoning and justifying them with scripture is in danger of such a judgment coming to them. So is the local assembly or denomination which teach error and allow for evil attitudes to go unchecked. The angels who kept not their proper habitation, their first estate, YHWH has condemned to eternal darkness. So also is the case with those who blaspheme the Spirit of Elohim and the road to blasphemy is paved with sexual immorality. The unclean and the abominable tread thereon.
That 'touching' implies with sexual intent is seen in many passages of scripture. Scriptural knowing means having intimacy with or becoming one with, partaking of, and eating.
Bereshit 3:3 But of the fruit of the tree which [is] in the midst of the garden, Elohim hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.
Bereshit 20:6 And Elohim said unto him in a dream, "Yea, I know that thou didst this in the integrity of thy heart; for I also withheld thee from sinning against me: therefore suffered I thee not to touch her."
Shemot 19:12 "And thou shalt set bounds unto the people round about, saying, Take heed to yourselves, [that ye] go [not] up into the mount, nor touch the border of it: whosoever toucheth the mount shall be surely put to death:There shall not an hand touch it, but he shall surely be stoned, or shot through; whether [it be] beast or man, it shall not live: when the trumpet soundeth long, they shall come up to the mount."
Bamidbar 4:15 And when Aaron and his sons have made an end of covering the sanctuary, and all the vessels of the sanctuary, as the camp is to set forward; after that, the sons of Kohath shall come to bear [it]: but they shall not touch [any] set-apart thing, lest they die. These [things are] the burden of the sons of Kohath in the tabernacle of the congregation
Lamentations 4:15 They cried unto them, Depart ye; [it is] unclean; depart, depart, touch not: when they fled away and wandered, they said among the Gentiles, They shall no more sojourn [there].
Hebrews 12:20 For they could not endure that which was commanded, And if so much as a beast touch the mountain, it shall be stoned, or thrust through with a dart.
1st Chronicles 16:22 and Psalm 105:15 Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm.
These last two verses are cited in the sense that YHWH's anointed are set-apart unto him wholly and men who attempt to compromise the servants of YWHW are the doing the same thing spiritually as the Sodomites wanted to do physically to the angels sent to destroy Sodom for their wickedness. Hope you enjoyed all of this and good studying.
