Isaiah-45 [Isaiah 45:1] THUS SAITH THE LORD TO HIS ANOINTED, TO CYRUS, WHOSE RIGHT HAND I HAVE HOLDEN, TO SUBDUE NATIONS BEFORE HIM; AND I WILL LOOSE THE LOINS OF KINGS, TO OPEN BEFORE HIM THE TWO LEAVED GATES; AND THE GATES SHALL NOT BE SHUT;

CYRUS
The Prophet Isaiah had already predicted that a ruler named Cyrus would be the one to free the exiles. Cyrus was recalled by NAME in Isaiah 44; 28, "To his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have held..." and in the next verse, 45; 1: "That says of Cyrus, He is my shepherd..." Both traditional and modern commentators usually understand Isaiah chapter 45 to be referring to Cyrus the King of Persia. Cyrus was the King of Persia who conquered Babylon and enabled the Jews to return to Judea and rebuild the Temple.
Isaiah prophesied about 100 years before Cyrus. Josephus relates that CYRUS was shown his name written in the Prophecy of Isaiah and this is what led him to allow the Jews to return. Not only did Cyrus conquer Babylon and help the Jews return to their land, he also conquered Egypt and ruled over Nubia south of Egypt. Nubia was known as Cush. Cyrus also ruled over regions to the west of India and parts of Pakistan-India itself. The following verse in Isaiah can therefore be applied perhaps to Cyrus:
"THUS SAYS THE LORD, THE LABOR OF EGYPT, AND MERCHANDISE OF ETHIOPIA [in Hebrew: "CUSH"], AND OF THE SABAEANS, MEN OF STATURE, SHALL COME OVER UNTO YOU, AND THEY SHALL BE YOURS: THEY SHALL COME AFTER YOU; IN CHAINS THEY SHALL COME OVER, AND THEY SHALL FALL DOWN UNTO YOU, THEY SHALL MAKE SUPPLICATION UNTO YOU, SAYING, SURELY GOD IS IN YOU; AND THERE IS NO ELSE, THERE IS NO OTHER GOD" (Isaiah 45;14).
We, however, believe this verse is not addressed primarily to Cyrus but to the Ten Tribes in Exile. Some proof of this has already been indicated: Concerning the idea of Cyrus, the following points should be noted:
There is a principle that Prophecies that were written down, even when they were fulfilled shortly afterwards, will have a larger application in a later period especially towards the Latter Days. The Prophecies are usually designed to accord to some degree with contemporary events or with things that would occur shortly after. The main gist of the Prophecies however was for the Latter Days. Even the Commentators who apply all of the chapter to Cyrus have to admit that it does not exactly fit in key details. It must have a wider application.
Even in the verses where the name CYRUS is expressly mentioned, the sages understood the verse as applying to Cyrus only in a PARTIAL SENSE: For example,
"The Holy One, Blessed He, said to the Anointed-Messiah, I have a complaint against Cyrus, I said he will build my House and gather in my exiles but he went and said, Whoever amongst my people wants to go up can do so [and build the House themselves]..." (Megilla 12; Rashi), i.e. the expression in the verse Isaiah 45;1: "...to his anointed, to Cyrus," was understood as applying to two different people, to the Anointed-Messiah and to Cyrus! Alternately the verse was formulated in deliberately ambiguous language giving Cyrus the potential if he so wanted to have done more than he actually did!
The Commentary Daat Sofrim (Isaiah 45): <<For the address to Cyrus was not "To Cyrus his Anointed-Messiah" but rather it was said, "To his Anointed-Messiah, [and] to Cyrus," as if to two different entities.>> The whole of this Prophecy of Isaiah is arranged in an oracular style of mainly short paragraphs with no necessary strong connection between them. The expression concerning "LABOR OF EGYPT, AND MERCHANDISE OF ETHIOPIA [in Hebrew, CUSH], AND OF THE SABAEANS" is not necessarily connected to the preceding verses concerning Cyrus. The following verses return to speak only of Israel. The verse itself speaks of an ultimate acknowledgement of the God of Israel by the captives. This could only apply to Israel. Israel is discussed before Cyrus is spoken of, and afterwards Israel is again mentioned. In Isaiah 43;3 it says "FOR I AM THE LORD YOUR GOD, THE HOLY ONE OF ISRAEL, YOUR SAVIOR, I GAVE EGYPT FOR YOUR ATONEMENT, ETHIOPIA [Hebrew: "CUSH"] AND SEBA UNDERNEATH YOU." Here Egypt, Cush, Seba are linked with Israel and can be understood in the Hebrew as being placed under Israel's subjection!!!
A simple reading of Isaiah chapter 45 does not leave much room for Cyrus, the emphasis is on Israel.
This is the verse we are primarily considering:
"THUS SAYS THE LORD, THE LABOR OF EGYPT, AND MERCHANDISE OF CUSH, AND OF THE SABAEANS, MEN OF STATURE, SHALL COME OVER UNTO YOU, AND THEY SHALL BE YOURS: THEY SHALL COME AFTER YOU; IN CHAINS THEY SHALL COME OVER, AND THEY SHALL FALL DOWN UNTO YOU, THEY SHALL MAKE SUPPLICATION UNTO YOU, SAYING, SURELY GOD IS IN YOU; AND THERE IS NO ELSE, THERE IS NO OTHER GOD" (ISAIAH 45;14).
One may take this verse as perhaps applying to Cyrus though there is no necessity to do so. Even if it is taken as applicable in part to CYRUS the context and the similar verse in Isaiah 43;3 concerning Israel says, "Egypt for your atonement, CUSH and Seba underneath you." This shows that the primary application is to Israel. In all the rest of chapter 45 following verse 14, Israel is addressed to and mentioned: "Israel shall be saved" (45;17) "the seed of Jacob" (45; 19), "all the seed of Israel" (45;24). You may yet not be convinced but take the verse as applying to Israel and consider our explanation:
According to our understanding of the Prophet Isaiah (43;3 and 45;14 and the verses around them) it was predicted that the Lost Ten Tribes would rule over India, Egypt and much of Negro Africa. The trade with India would be theirs, the recompense arriving (via the Suez Canal) at Egypt would be theirs, and they would transport Negroes (many of whom were large-bodied) across the seas in chains. The whole passage ends on the point that in the Last Days they will return to worship the True God. In their own way they had always subconsciously acknowledged the One God Of Israel to some degree, but had publicly worshipped something else as explained at length elsewhere in Ephraim. In the Last days Israel will then worship the True God and descendants of the Negro slaves will also see the truth and bear witness to the God of Israel. We identify the Lost Ten Tribes headed by Britain and America as Israel. If we consider Britain and North America as one "Anglo-Saxon" entity then the Prophecy indicates that the Lost Ten Tribes are amongst them. The British ruled India. Economically they gained very much from trade with India, they ruled Egypt and controlled the Suez Canal linking the Mediterranean Sea with the East. They also controlled much of Africa and Negro Slaves in chains were sent by them and others acting on their behalf across the Sea to North America and to the West Indies. They have an ambivalent attitude towards the God of the Bible but formally worship in a way described in Isaiah in the rest of chapter 45.
This is the simple meaning of the verse, BUT in order to understand and appreciate this plain meaning there are several other factors to consider.
The King James version says:
"THUS SAYS THE LORD, THE LABOR OF EGYPT, AND MERCHANDISE OF CUSH, AND OF THE SABAEANS, MEN OF STATURE, SHALL COME OVER UNTO YOU, AND THEY SHALL BE YOURS: THEY SHALL COME AFTER YOU; IN CHAINS THEY SHALL COME OVER, AND THEY SHALL FALL DOWN UNTO YOU, THEY SHALL MAKE SUPPLICATION UNTO YOU, SAYING, SURELY GOD IS IN YOU; AND THERE IS NONE ELSE, THERE IS NO OTHER GOD" (ISAIAH 45;14).
The expression "labor of Egypt" is an accurate translation but the words in Hebrew [yagiat Mitsraim] can also be rendered as "that which comes unto Egypt".
The "merchandise of Ethiopia" can also be rendered as the "merchandise of
Cush". "Cush" is the Hebrew word translated as Ethiopia. "Cush" was also
the Egyptian word for the region of Nubia meaning southern Egypt and the
Sudan. The Greeks applied the name "Cush" to the whole of eastern Africa1.
On the other hand, ethnic and geographical names such as "Kash" or "Kas" or
"Kush" are also found throughout early Indian histories as well as in
neighboring areas. In Modern Hebrew "Cushi" usually means a Negro of
African origin and India is known as "Hodu". In Biblical Hebrew however
there is no distinct name for India. Both Ethiopia and neighboring parts of
Africa and India would have been referred to in Biblical Hebrew as CUSH.
The ancient Sumerians and Assyrians used the same term ("Meluccha") both
for Ethiopia and for northwest India. Classical Greek Geographers (such as
Herodotos) referred to the area northwest of India as the "Ethiopia of
Asia".
The Aramaic Translations to the Bible often translate "Cush" as "Hodu" or "Hindiki" both of which mean India. The famous commentator Rashi also equated "CUSH" with India. There was a close connection between India, Ethiopia, and Africa. The Rabbinical Commentator and international traveler Avraham Iben Ezra noted a similarity between Ancient Egypt and India with a similar caste systems, sacred animals and so on. The verse in Isaiah may therefore be referring to India under the name Cush.>>

Moses begged God to let him enter the Land even though it had already been decreed that he would not enter.
Our sages taught that one should never give up and always request the help of the Almighty. Everything can be changed. It was decreed against King Hezekiah that he should die. The Prophet Isaiah had said so by the mouth of God. Nevertheless the king prayed and the decree was annulled.
[2-Kings 20:1] IN THOSE DAYS WAS HEZEKIAH SICK UNTO DEATH. AND THE PROPHET ISAIAH THE SON OF AMOZ CAME TO HIM, AND SAID UNTO HIM, THUS SAITH THE LORD, SET THINE HOUSE IN ORDER; FOR THOU SHALT DIE, AND NOT LIVE.

[Deuteronomy 3:28] BUT CHARGE JOSHUA, AND ENCOURAGE HIM, AND STRENGTHEN HIM: FOR HE SHALL GO OVER BEFORE THIS PEOPLE, AND HE SHALL CAUSE THEM TO INHERIT THE LAND WHICH THOU SHALT SEE.
Joshua was from the Tribe of Ephraim. According to tradition he married Rahab the Canaanite harlot (Joshua ch.6) who helped the Israelites capture Jericho. From this union emerged Jeremiah the Prophet.
This proves the point. Everything can be rectified.
Pray and do repentance and everything can be put right. Note "it can be" does not guarantee that it will be but it often is and the message of the Bible is that God wants you to pray as if it will be if we ask sincerely enough.
In principle all our women should be virgins until they marry and righteous good wives after that always supporting their husbands to go in the right way. All our man should be paragons of virtue, deeply spiritual, and "he-men" hero-types into the boot. It does not always work out that way. Things can go wrong. The message of the Bible is to keep trying. Never give up. Always pray. Always try to do as well as you can in every sphere. God will help us. We will help ourselves and be helped.

When the Lost Ten Tribes return whichever tribe a person belongs to will be determined through the male line. What happens when an Israelite male comes with a non-Israelite female? There are several answers:
1. This will not happen. Only "pure" Israelites will apply. 2. The female partners will be rejected as in the time of Ezra. 3. The females partners and their children will be accepted even though in the Time of Ezra they were not. This opinion is that of the Abarbanel (ca. 1490s) based on hints in Biblical verses.
At present the Lost Ten Tribes are not obligated by the Mosaic Law but rather are considered "Gentiles for all intents and purposes". This however is a kind of temporary suspension and the Lost Ten Tribes will be re-accepted in the Latter Days. Judah and Joseph will re-unite.

The golden calf was not really initially intended as something instead of God but rather as an intermediary instead of Moses to reach God. Nevertheless it was considered idolatrous. The Ten Tribes when they rebelled took to worshipping golden calves. The Cimmerian Cimbrians who descended from the Ten Tribes carried a metallic bull calf around with them in their travels.

One tenth of all produce was to be eaten within the walls of Jerusalem. The sages said that an offshoot of this requirement would be to have a member of one's household or a close relation permanently dwelling in Jerusalem. He and his family would then be supported by the tithed produce that had to be eaten within Jerusalem. This person would devote most of his life to study. Thus every family would have at least one member who was a professional permanent student of the Law. The knowledge and awareness thus engendered would permeate all of society.

The Levites received cities and land surrounding the cities throughout all of Israel. After the Ten Northern Tribes split away from Judah most of the levites moved to Judah:
[2-Chronicles 11:13] AND THE PRIESTS AND THE LEVITES THAT WERE IN ALL ISRAEL RESORTED TO HIM OUT OF ALL THEIR COASTS.
[2-Chronicles 11:14] FOR THE LEVITES LEFT THEIR SUBURBS AND THEIR POSSESSION, AND CAME TO JUDAH AND JERUSALEM: FOR JEROBOAM AND HIS SONS HAD CAST THEM OFF FROM EXECUTING THE PRIEST'S OFFICE UNTO THE LORD:
[2-Chronicles 11:15] AND HE ORDAINED HIM PRIESTS FOR THE HIGH PLACES, AND FOR THE DEVILS, AND FOR THE CALVES WHICH HE HAD MADE.
[2-Chronicles 11:16] AND AFTER THEM OUT OF ALL THE TRIBES OF ISRAEL SUCH AS SET THEIR HEARTS TO SEEK THE LORD GOD OF ISRAEL CAME TO JERUSALEM, TO SACRIFICE UNTO THE LORD GOD OF THEIR FATHERS.
Nevertheless there are indications that part of the Levites also remained with the Ten Tribes. The descendants of Moses are discussed in "Ephraim" chapter two: [extracts]:
<<The prophet Moses led the Children of Israel out of Egypt. Through Moses the Israelites received the Mosaic Code. Moses belonged to the clan of Kohat (Qohat) within the Tribe of Levi. The task of Levi was primarily that of priesthood, instruction, policing, and border settlement consolidation13. Levi was not given a tribal territory of his own but rather apportioned towns and cities scattered throughout the land of Israel. The different Levite clans were however each concentrated in areas of specific Israelite Tribes. The clan of Kohat, to which Moses belonged, received its settlements in areas otherwise belonging to the Israelite Tribes of Ephraim, Dan, and halfMenasseh (Joshua 21;5). Later, when the northern Ten Tribes under Jeroboam son of Nebat split off from the southern ones ruled by Rehoboam son of Solomon, many of the Levis fled southwards.
"Now the priests [Hebrew: "Cohanim"] and the Levites throughout the whole of Israel resorted to Rehoboam from all their territories; for the Levites had left all their common land and their patrimony and had gone to Judah and Jerusalem, because Jeroboam and his successors rejected their services as priests of the LORD, and he appointed his own priests for the hillshrines, for the demons, and for the calves he had made.." (2 Chronicles 11;13-15).
It follows from the above excerpt that a good portion of the Tribe of Levi must eventually have been found amongst the "Jewish" southern tribes. Some accounts (such as one of several given by Eldad Hadani) concerning the SONS OF MOSES do mention them alongside the Jewish exiles in Babylonia. Other legends (from the same source) connect the SONS OF MOSES with the Lost Ten Tribes of northern Israel exiled by the Assyrians. Among the various traditions transmitted by Eldad haDani (ca.800 CE) was one that the Sons of Moses were somewhere around the region of Turkestan and adjoined the Lost Ten Tribes. Even until recently people of the Jewish faith (or of a Judaising tradition) in this area would call themselves "Moussai"14 meaning "followers of Moses" rather than use the terms Yehudi (Jew) or Israelite. The ancestors of the Angles, Saxons, Jutes, and some of the Scandinavians had once been in Turkestan and in the neighboring regions and they did descend from the Lost Tribes of Israel. <<
We mentioned Abba Abas placing the Sons of Moses in the east (in Gabrassa) and in the west, in Gabalk, meaning France. There existed a conceptual understanding that linked Britain and France together.
Other traditions of apparent JEWISH ORIGIN derived through Arab intermediaries relate a similar tale. These other versions state that the CHILDREN OF MOSES were in the far west in "Djabarka" (i.e. "The Golden Castle"), in the "Islands of the Happy", dwelling in a town wherein the remnants of AD19 were also to be found20.
<<The sons of Ad who, along with the sons of Moses, dwelt in theseislands were identified with Israel. "The Islands of the Happy" in the far west in which dwelt both the sons of Moses and the sons of Ad were the British Isles. Later the term in Classical Writings would be applied especially to Ireland!

Most nations that have Israelites from the Lost Ten Tribes prominent in their populations have monarchical type governments: Britain, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Holland, Belgium, Luxembourg, Denmark, Norway, Sweden. These form a majority of the old monarchical dynasties that still continue.
[Deuteronomy 17:15] THOU SHALT IN ANY WISE SET HIM KING OVER THEE, WHOM THE LORD THY GOD SHALL CHOOSE: ONE FROM AMONG THY BRETHREN SHALT THOU SET KING OVER THEE: THOU MAYEST NOT SET A STRANGER OVER THEE, WHICH IS NOT THY BROTHER.
[Deuteronomy 17:18] AND IT SHALL BE, WHEN HE SITTETH UPON THE THRONE OF HIS KINGDOM, THAT HE SHALL WRITE HIM A COPY OF THIS LAW IN A BOOK OUT OF THAT WHICH IS BEFORE THE PRIESTS THE LEVITES:
The King had to keep a small Torah scroll with him and constantly to learn in it. He was supposed to set an example and live a holy life and lead the people out to war when necessary.

The custom of passing through the fire was adopted by the ancient Israelites who continued it in their place of exile as it says: Extract from "Lost Israelite Identity" chapter fourteen: Britain, said Julius Caesar, was the center of the Druidical religion. Strabo reported that Ceres and Proserpine were worshipped in Britain according to the Samothracian (i.e. Phoenician) rites25. In Britain the Canaanite god Baal was worshipped and was called Bel.. The name "Bel" for "baal" is also found as a root in some of the names of British kings e.g. "Cassi-belin", "Cuno-belin"; one of the names of the sun in Gaul was Belis and Baal (or "Bel") was a sun-god. There was a feast known as "Beltane" which in Scottish means "Fire of Bel". The custom in Britain, Sweden, and northern Europe of jumping over fires and leading cattle, etc. through the smoke and flames at the feast of Beltane is a pagan Canaanite custom still practiced until very recently in northern Europe, in Celtic and Scandinavian lands. Bel god of the Britons was also known as Belus or Belinus similar to Bel or Belus the Assyrian form of "baal"26. The Syrian Belmarcos had altars in the region of Paris; many Gallic peoples worshipped the sun god Belenus who became equated with Apollo; in Brittany (Armorica) a priest is still (even today) referred to as a BELEC meaning "servant of Bel"27 and BEL was an alternative pronunciation in the Middle East for Baal!
Passing through the fire was one of the sins the Lost Ten Tribes had been exiled for as it says:
[2-Kings 17:17] AND THEY CAUSED THEIR SONS AND THEIR DAUGHTERS TO PASS THROUGH THE FIRE, AND USED DIVINATION AND ENCHANTMENTS, AND SOLD THEMSELVES TO DO EVIL IN THE SIGHT OF THE LORD, TO PROVOKE HIM TO ANGER. [2-Kings 17:18] THEREFORE THE LORD WAS VERY ANGRY WITH ISRAEL, AND REMOVED THEM OUT OF HIS SIGHT: THERE WAS NONE LEFT BUT THE TRIBE OF JUDAH ONLY.

"BRIT-AM ISRAEL" BELIEVES:
* The Hebrew Bible is the message of God.
* Out of the original 12 Tribes of Israel Ten were lost. Two remained. The present-day Jews are descended mainly from the two remaining Tribes of Judah and Benjamin.
* The Khazars were a Kingdom in southern Russia many of whose leaders converted to Judaism. The Khazars were descended from the Lost Ten Tribes. The Khazars were blood-relatives of the Picts who went to Scotland, and of the Anglo-Saxons, and of peoples in Scandinavia.
* In addition to the Khazars, many other converts to Judaism through the ages were descended from assimilated Jews or from members of the Lost Ten Tribes.
* Most of the Lost Ten Tribes migrated to Northwest and Western Europe and their descendants are now in those areas or in North America, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa.
* We do not claim that all residents of the said nations are descended from Israel. We do however affirm that most descendants of the Lost Ten Tribes are residents of those nations. On the whole they are unaware of their Israelite Identity. Even so in the course of history the Israelite origins of peoples in those areas have influenced national developments and national characteristics.
* The Tribe of Joseph was divided into two other Tribes: Ephraim and Menasseh. People from ALL of the Israelite Tribes congregated in North America but in general the U.S.A. is dominated by Menasseh. Britain has characteristics of Ephraim.
* Reuben was important in France, Issachar in Switzerland, Benjamin in Belgium, Zebulon in Holland, Dan in Denmark, Naphtali in Norway, Gad in Sweden, the country of Finland was influenced by the Tribes of Simeon, Issachar, and Gad; Simeon, Dan, and Ephraim were important in Ireland.
* There is a need for the present-day "Jews" of Judah and the Lost Ten Tribes to recognize each other, and to work towards re-unification and reconciliation.
* Proof exists confirming "Brit-Am Israel" Identity beliefs. Some of the evidence has been presented in works by Yair Davidy such as "The Tribes" (1993), "Ephraim" (1995), and "Lost Israelite Identity" (1996), as well as in articles in our journal "Tribesman". Much additional evidence is available and needs to be uncovered and published. Our sources include the Bible, Talmud, Midrashim, Commentators, Classical Greek and Roman historians, Chroniclers, Legends, Linguistics, Archaeology, and where pertinent racial and other scientific studies.
* Even though much of the evidence has been revealed by ourselves it is not ours alone. Our proofs have never been properly refuted. The basic claims we have made are irrefutable. If one cannot deny our claims and there is nobody else who can it follows that one should accept them. This means that the identity of the Lost Ten Tribes of Israel with western peoples should be acknowledged. Once this acknowledgment is forthcoming it is possible to discuss whatever practical conclusions need to be made.
