From: heb_roots_chr@mail.geocities.com Sent: Thursday, July 24, 1997 12:56 AM To: Hebraic Heritage Newsgroup Subject: Jewish Worship From: "Ross Family" To: <heb_roots_chr@geocities.com> Subject: Jewish Worship I've been asked to do a teaching on Jewish Worship at our Church on Wednesday night. I've been teaching the Jewish Festivals in Sunday School and have sparked quite a bit of interest in the Christian's Jewish roots. We purchased a shofar and are wanting to get our congregation comfortable with using it in worship, but many are from a very strong traditional Church of God background and a little resistant to new things. Our praise and worship services are tremendous at times, but there is some resistance to Jewish music because it isn't "country gospel". There is a remnant, however, that is eager to learn and to open themselves up to new styles of worship. We have started a banner ministry and that has gone over very well -- we have banners all over the church. We then began making flags for use during praise and worship and that seems to have little resistance. Dance, well, that's another thing. Anyway, the reason for this note is this. I need all the information anyone can give me on the Biblical basis for Jewish worship -- book, chapter and verse! If I can present this in a way that is convincing, it will be more accepted by our older congregation. As a whole, this church wants all that God has and will move in the direction of the flow of the Spirit. I just need help to make this presentation as thorough and clear as possible. If you can be of any assistance, I would certainly appreciate it -- the Danville Church of God will appreciate it!. Thanks in advance. Jan Ross "In Him we live, and move, and have our being!" Can you imagine "living" or "moving" or even "being" without Him? From Eddie: ************** To begin ... in Romans 3:1-2 it is written: "What advantage then has the Jew? ... much every way: chiefly because that unto them were committed the oracles of God" In Romans 9:4 it is written: "Who are Israelites: to whom pertaineth the adoption, and the glory and the covenants and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises" God gave these things to ancient Israel for our learning (Romans 15:4). They show us of things TO COME (I Cor 10:11). They are "rehearsals" or "blueprints" of things to come. The FESTIVALS are the "rehearsals" that God gave us to understand His redemptive plan. Yeshua/Jesus was born a Jew, lived a Jew, died a Jew. The Apostle Paul kept the Jewish customs AFTER he became a believer in Yeshua/Jesus as Messiah. This should get you started ... *************************************************************************
