A Cupola which is known in Arabic to be Qubbar el-Alouah, (Dome of the
Tablets,) It is also known to be the dome of the Spirit. This Dome
stands on bedrock that protrudes from the platform surrounding the Dome
of the Rock. The bedrock under this Dome is flat. The Ark of the
Covenant was said to be placed on a flat bedrock. According to ancient
Jewish source, (see Tosefta. ,Yom-Hakipurim 3:6; { a extensive
companion collection of the Mishnah from the same period}. See also
Mishnah Yoma 5;2) The Ark of the Covenant rested on a "Foundation
Stone" inside of the Holies of Holies."

Some years ago while looking at the Eastern Gate from the Mount of
Olivet, I noticed that the Eastern Gate known as the Golden Gate was not
positioned midway in the eastern wall of the Temple Mount; This Golden
gate according to the Mishnah and other ancient Hebraic writings should
be directly in line with the Temple Gate. The Dome of the rocks stands
to the left of this gate. By placing an imaginary line drawn from the
center of the Golden Gate perpendicular to the city wall in which it was
an entrance, this line will run directly through the cupola standing 15
feet (4.5 meters) high.

Some would try to argue that the Golden Gate is not positioned at the
same location as the first century gate. This was proved to be incorrect
when part of an arch was discovered directly beneath the Golden Gate.
This partial arch definitely belongs to a older gate, a gate that may
date even to Solomonic times.

The Scriptures instruct that the gate of mercy and of judgment is the
gate through which the Messiah will pass when the great day comes. It
also was prophesied that it would be sealed and closed till Messiah
comes.

In the book of Revelation interestingly it speaks about the outer courts

Rev 11:2-3:

2 "But leave out the court which is outside the temple, and do not
measure it, for it has been given to the Gentiles. And they will tread
the holy city underfoot for forty-two months.
3 "And I will give power to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy one
thousand two hundred and sixty days, clothed in sackcloth."
(NKJ)

The outer courts are exactly where the Dome of the Rock stands. I
believe a treaty will come during Jacobs trouble (Tribulation period)
where a wall will be build to divide the Temple Mount, a new Temple
will be built on the site of the Dome of the Tablets aligned with the
Eastern Gate. This is the new Temple that the "navie" (prophet) Ezekiel
prophesied about. (See Ezekiel 40 through 48).

The location of the Tabernacle in the wilderness always faced the East,
it had a veil with two "karub" (cherubim's) with flaming swords on its
veil. It was build under the shadow of Mount Sinai (The Mount of the
Law). The Temple site sits in the shadow of Mount Moriah or Mount
Zion. In my book called "Eden" I brought out the fact that Eden's
location is on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem.

I hope I was able to answer some of your questions. If you can get a
copy of "The Biblical Archaeology Review dated March/April 1983," you
will be able to see Dr. Kaufman's article on the Temple Mount.
If I can help you any further feel free to write.

Shalom

Dr. D. Levesque
