Shalom Eddie,
I have enjoyed reading all the dialogue regarding this topic, and agree with your answer Eddie. We, as Christians, just coming into a true understanding and appreciation of our Hebraic heritage, are ill advised to embark on a study of God's creative forces (Sefirot). It is my understanding that Jewish students come to the Kabbalah after years of study in Torah and Hebrew, and at a mature age, such as 40. We must question our motives and abide by what Rabbi Silver has advised in regard to injunctional warnings and criteria. I have taken this advice, and wish to share my opinion with you.
As Christians, we lack the proper foundation or mature spiritual framework. I guess anyone can study Kabbalah, but what you come away with will only reflect the ignorance and imbalanced perspectives brought in, and will lead to confusion instead of enlightenment. Kabbalah is expressed through the Hebrew alphabet, but even if you become well versed in its language, there still remains a void that cannot be crossed by human effort alone, and if you are ill prepared, you could become an easy target for troublesome spirits. Yeshua told us that His Kingdom was not of this world but we, in our fallen human nature, surely are. Yeshua also warned us to test all spirits, and Paul told us that the real war is a spiritual one. When you study Kabbalah, you are entering into the war zone. Our challenge is not to empower ourselves with the deepest mysteries of the universe, that is what the pagans and new agers (robbers) try to do; for now, we must look through a glass darkly. Remember, self empowerment is ha satan's easiest tool to ensnare mankind. A reading of Genesis and C.S. Lewis' "Screwtapes Letters" emphasize this ancient lesson.
The amazing truth is that we need look no further than the inspired (revealed) writings found in the Old and New Testaments that were written for us and meant for our ears; it is our Kabbalah - the holy word expressed in our native and course tongue, told in a historic and parable fashion we can understand and apply to our lives. Yeshua is Kabbalah, the holy word made flesh. Who could ask for anything more! He did not leave us as spiritual orphans, but came down to our level to teach us, and left his Holy Spirit to guide and instruct us. Shhhh, don't tell the Kabbalah scholars, the poor dears are still blind to this truth.
Blessings in Yeshua, Beth
