For those who may have a curiosity concerning the Talmud, but who cannot
devote themselves to volume after volume, may want to pick up a copy of
EVERYMAN'S TALMUD by Abraham Cohen. It is almost 400 pages and covers the
major teachings of the rabbinic sages. It is in easy to read English and has
chapters on the Doctrine of God,God and the Universe,The Doctrine of Man,
Revelation, Domestic Life, Social Life,The Moral Life, the Physical
Life,Folk-lore,Jurisprudence, and the Here-after. The foreward is written by
Jacob Neusner who in short says the book is the right place to start.
I picked it up in the religion section of Walden's Bookstore. If you need to
order it is Everyman's Talmud by Abraham Cohen. ISBN 0-8052-1032-6.
Amazon.com has it for $14.40. Use their ISBN search.
Shalom,
Alan

To Deb re copy of Talmud:
Eddie is right. The Talmud is volumes and volumes and
VERY expensive. BUT, you can get the SONCINO TALMUD
(very good & has the entire works) on CD Rom from most
Jewish bookstores or direct from "Davka Corporation" on the
internet. Its about $300.00 US, which is a fraction of the cost
of buying it in volumes.

Just in case some of you didn't know, both the excellent reference
works Eddie Chumney mentioned:
1. Gesinius Hebrew Lexicon Coded to the Strong's:
2. Joseph Thayer "Thayer's Greek-English Lexicon of the New
Testament: Coded With the Numbering System from Strong's
      Exhaustive Concordance"
are available from the Amazon booktore. Their website from which you
can place immediate orders is:
http://www.amazon.com/
I ordered Thayer's a couple of days ago (Thanks Eddie!). I also
ordered a couple of excellent books by an author that I think is one
of today's great Biblical/Torah/Judaic experts, David Flusser
(pronounced Floosser).
1. "Jewish Sources in Early Christianity"
2. "Judaism and the Origins of Christianity"
