The words tefilla, tehillim and tehillot all mean Psalms (praises) in
the singular and plural.

To know more about which Psalms the Jewish people use at various times
and for various reasons, I suggest you buy copy of the "Siddur", the
Jewish prayer book. I have one and it is very useful and enlightening.
The Artscroll Siddur (possibly the best publication) can be bought at
any Jewish bookstrore for around $20.00. There are two versions: the
Ashkenazi and the Sephardi. I have both, but prefer the Sephardi. There
is not a lot of difference, mostly in the style of writing. The Siddur
has both English and Hebrew together.
