I taught these lessons over a three year period during the 1990's at some local Bible study fellowships. I taught 96 lessons in all but I have only had time to put the first 22 on the Internet. They are located at: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/2175/heb_root.html Eddie Chumney Hebraic Heritage Ministries Int'l ************************************************************************ To: heb_roots_chr@geocities.com From: pottersclay@mail.icnet.net (Randy Felton) Subject: Re: Sunday School hebraic roots booklet Dear Jim, I have a booklet I have developed over the years that is basically my Sunday School notes. It is comprised of 12 lessons and is a very basic introduction to Jewish Roots. It is called "The Jewish Roots of Christianity". You can order the booklet from me or through HaY'Did Learning Center. You can contact them at: shalom@haydid.org The cost is $3.50 ea. + S&H if you are not a member of HaY'Did or $3.00ea. +S&H for members. S&H is usually $1.50ea. The best adult Sunday School primer that is out there is OUR FATHER ABRAHAM by Dr. Marvin Wilson which can be ordered from any Christian bookstore. I really encourage you to go to your area Christian bookstore to order as many books as possible. These bookstore owners need to know what their area people want in books. This book has been around for a LONG time and is divided into 15 chapters with discussion questions at the end of each chapter. Our ministry also is the only source for OUR FATHER ABRAHAM'S STUDY GUIDE. You can download it off our website free (about 100 pages of printing) or order for $8/$9 from our catalog. If you don't know what the book is about, then the study guide is really a good way of examining the book. We've recently gone through a major revision and added three more chapters to our original study guide, and changed the format, too. So if you have an old copy, then you may want to examine the online version. Homeschoolers and youth enjoy this book, too. If you are talking about children's Sunday School materials, then that is an area that is sorely lacking out there. I would encourage everyone to really pray this area into existence. The best thing to teach children would be the festivals. Why not? At school their curriculum revolves around the worldly holidays, and if we are teaching children about God, why not show them Messiah in God's festivals? Eddie's book THE SEVEN FESTIVALS OF THE MESSIAH is THE BEST one out there for the teacher's to study and then adapt. Eddie and I have talked about the need for children's festival materials for a long time. Why not go to the public library and check out some picture books on Passover to share with your Sunday School class, and start teaching on the many pictures of Messiah Yeshua that are found in the feast? Let the children learn how to pick out pictures of Messiah in the story! Show them how to even understand Moses as a shepherd ---a picture of Messiah the Good Shepherd! Study about shepherding from a Hebraic prespective. If you go to our website you will find an address section that lists publishers of Jewish materials. Call or write these publishers and you will receive FREE catalogs full of good chidren's materials. There are lots of wonderful FREE articles on our website that can be adapted by anyone to share. One pastor told me that he had printed off 700 pages from our website! Help yourself! That's what it is there for! But could you take a minute to write a simple thank you note for what you are taking? Its a small thing, that keeps us going, okay? We're all volunteers---Eddie included! So if you enjoy the materials, then why not say "thank you!?" This is an amazing association of teaching ministries, okay? Instead of each ministry being out for its own material gain and not wanting you to listen to anyone else, within our association we are always saying, "Have you read Marv Wilson's OUR FATHER ABRAHAM or Doug Wheeler's THE LAW OF THE TZIT-TZIT, or Randy Felton's JEWISH ROOTS OF CHRISTIANITY or Ron Moseley's SPIRIT OF THE LAW?" We've all agreed to work together as a body---without seeking fame and glory for an individual! So, do us one more favor? PRAY FOR ALL OF US! God is moving mightily to teach and we are all learning some wonderful things, but we need your prayers! It follows the Torah and Haftorah readings, and really helps us a lot. I read the passages through with my children during the week, we then read the study and answer all the questions. When we gather, the leader asks each question, and all have an opportunity to share. It works very well for us, and those who have more understanding can explain to the rest of us who are still trying to replace old ideas with more scriptural ones. My husband can take it to work to read and study, so we all stay together. We also have the calendar put out by Lederer Ministries that has the Brit Chadasha (Renewed Covenant) portion, which we also read. We also print all the posts from this newsgroup and put them in files according to topic (Second Temple Period, etc.) and then we use these on Sabbath. We bought a software program called Paths Through Jerusalem which is wonderful for seeing Jerusalem and learning the history. We read about something, then take one of the tours. This way even my 5 year old can participate, he probably gets a little confused, but he knows an awful lot about the Bible and it's customs, so he can pay a lot more attention during our study. There are certain characters that take you on a tour, King David, Herod, etc. It has really helped our study. Another of our favorites studies is to watch That The World May Know by Ray Van der Laan and Focus on the Family. I can't count how many times we have watched this series as a family, and it still brings me new understanding and clarification. MY husband plans to buy this series to show to friends who are interested in what we are learning. Since he is very shy, this is a great opportunity for him share. My father, who has never been interested in what we believe, went out and bought himself a Bible after seeing this series during one of our visits. I can't wait till I can get his computer program! Hope this helps a little! Marcella Burns P.S. I also have a question. I am ready to buy my daughter a computer program on Hebrew. She has been studying and learning Hebrew on her own for the past two years, and has grammar type questions I can't help with. We are not living close to anyone that we know of that knows Hebrew. What program do you recommend? ************************************************************************
