The Prayer shawl is a man's garment. No you can not wear a man's
garment.

There are no prohibitions in Torah for women wearing Tzit-tzit.  It
isn't commanded, but it is permitted.  You can make a prayer shawl, that
is feminine, or make a garment with four corners (51%) open to,  and put
Tzit-tzit on it. Beged-Ivri has information on tying Tzit-tzit yhe
threads as well as the sale of them.

Shalom,

Yes it is true.............in the Orthodox world, only men wear the
Prayer Shawl, however, as a Messianic Jew, during the Sabbath Service,
I share my Prayer Shawl with my wife. In Biblical times, and even now,
Jews cover their heads, shoulders and most of the upper body with
their Prayer Shawls. Once under it, they are in their own private
sanctuary. No matter what is going on, or where they might be, they
are with God, under the Tzallit.

Jason question seems timely in this great move to Teshuvah,
getting abck and getting closer to Hashem. I have been taught that
it is "traditional" that (only) men wear Tallit, but there is no
prohibition in the Law against women wearing same. True?

However, my personal opinion is that if we allow tradition to stop
us from praising or praying, God is not pleased with our heart
condition. That if you/we feel God telling us to wear Tallit, in
obedience, that's what we are to do.

At the Messianic Synagogue I attend, the younger women do wear the
Tallit. Not many, not often, not the older ones.

----------
In response to readers' questions concerning information on the
wearing of the prayer shawl and whether only men may wear them--an
EXCELLENT book by Dr. David Hargis is available through his ministry
at http://www.messianic.com, entitled "Talit:  Garment of Glory".  His
mother, Miryam B'rit-Hargis, has a talit ministry called "Atara
Melech" and can be reached at the e-mail address of:  miryam@aol.com .
I bought a hand-made talit from her and the book from Dr. Hargis at a
Messianic Israelite conference in 1994, hosted by Angus and Batya
Wooten of "House of David" ministry (http://www.mim.net).
