Dear Eddie:
I am interested to know about you opinions on celebrating Christmas
and Easter (I may just be slow on getting it, and I just got your book
yesterday so I haven't had a chance to read it yet). I see you speak
about it, but I want to learn more.
>From Eddie:
**************
My opinion on celebrating Christmas and Easter ...
I can only give you a personal testimony of my life and how God has
worked in my life.
Ever since I was a little boy, I have LOVED God and have had a URGENT
desire to please Him in ALL ways. I LOVE my Messiah and I want to
please Him in ALL I do. I LOVE that God loved me so much that He sent
Yeshua/Jesus to this earth and he was born, lived and died for me so
that I can have ETERNAL fellowship with Him in the age to come.
Therefore, as I was growing up, Christmas and Easter were special
times for me. THIS is HOW I released my faith and EXPRESSED my love
and adoration for the God of Israel and His Messiah. I was COMPLETELY
IGNORANT of the origin of Christmas and Easter.
STILL God loved me, He answered my prayers and He led me in a greater
personal walk with Him as I was led by the Ruach HaKodesh.
By being led by the Ruach HaKodesh / Holy Spirit, He allowed me to
understand about the roots of my faith and about the Sabbath and
Biblical Festivals. When I learned the SPIRITUAL MEANINGS and
APPLICATIONS of the Sabbath and Biblical Festivals and when I
discovered that the SPIRITUAL THEMES of the Sabbath and Biblical
Festivals taught me in GREATER DETAIL about the Kingdom of God and the
Ways of His Kingdom and His redemptive plan to be accomplished through
the Messiah, I was STUNNED and AMAZED !!! I first began to learn about
the roots of my faith in 1989.
Because of what I learned, I had a HEART for OTHER BELIEVERS to know
and understand what God taught me by the leading of His Ruach HaKodesh
/ Holy Spirit. Therefore, God put it upon my heart to write my book,
"The Seven Festivals of the Messiah" to more easily share the AWESOME
truths and spiritual insights of the Festivals to other believers. I
try to encourage the members of this newsgroup to read this book and
share it with others.
I remember thinking that when I began to appreciate and love the
Biblical Festivals that I could never practically celebrate them with
other believers because I didn't know hardly anybody who understood
them in the same way as God taught me the rich application of the
Festivals in the life of the believer in Yeshua/Jesus as Messiah and
how God gave them to teach in GREAT DETAIL about the 1st and 2nd
coming of Yeshua/Jesus.
But, that all changed around 1993 when I began to meet others in my
community who had the same heart and we began to fellowship together
in homes and began to celebrate the keep the Sabbath and Biblical
Festivals.
After God but a THOROUGH witness in my heart that the celebrating the
Biblical Festivals was HIS HEART then I began to lose all desire to
celebrate Christmas and Easter. Therefore, several years ago, I began
to stop celebrating Christmas and Easter and began to celebrate the
Biblical festivals instead. But, this was a PROCESS of LEARNING and
STUDYING and THEN applying what I learned.
I also had a desire to TEACH other believers with COMPASSION and LOVE
what God by His GRACE taught me through His Ruach HaKodesh / Holy
Spirit. Therefore, God put it upon my heart to start this ministry and
begin to share with others what He taught me about the Hebraic Roots
of our faith as believers in Yeshua/Jesus as Messiah.
In the meantime, I have become exposed to some other "Hebraic Roots"
ministries that try to make the claim that if you celebrate Christmas
and Easter that you a part of the "deceived" church and will not be
saved.
Others begin to refer to those who believe that Jesus as Messiah and
who still celebrate Christmas and Easter as being from the
"Christian" church and begin to have an "anti-Christian" mentality.
Then, while correcting pointing out the fact that the ORIGIN of
Christmas and Easter is pagan they then begin to question other
foundation Biblical truths as being "pagan" also. This would
including denying that Jesus is God manifested in the flesh and is
the living Word of G-d.
Then, I have seen some Christians become so shocked that the origin
of Christmas and Easter is pagan and that the Sabbath and the Biblical
Festivals are eternally given by God that they want to DENY that Jesus
in Messiah and convert to Rabbinical Judaism! They would have been
better off continuing to celebrate Christmas and Easter than to deny
the Messiah !!!
These are UNBALANCED responses to the fact that the origin of
Christmas and Easter are pagan and the Sabbath and Biblical Festivals
are ETERNALLY given by God.
The BALANCED response is to FIRST STUDY and THEN allow the
Ruach HaKodesh / Holy Spirit lead you in observing these truths.
This is what God did in my life.
In addition, the knowledge of keeping the Sabbath and Biblical
Festivals and that they are ETERNALLY given by God should ENHANCE and
INCREASE your EXISTING faith in Yeshua/Jesus as Messiah NOT replace
it.
This does not mean that once God begins to reveal these truths to His
people that RESPONSIBILITY does not go with it. If we LOVE GOD, we
should seek to OBEY Him when He shows us Biblical truth. This then
becomes a OBEDIENCE and LORDSHIP issue NOT a salvation issue. There
are those who try to make this a salvation issue but salvation is by
the GRACE of God when you accept Yeshua/Jesus as Messiah. It may
affect your REWARDS in heaven but not your salvation.
So, my advice is:
Have an open heart and examine the truth and then let the Ruach
HaKodesh / Holy Spirit lead you and guide you in how you begin to
apply these things to your life. Then, teach other believers what God
has graciously showed you and in LOVE encourage them to express their
faith in God and in Yeshua / Jesus as Messiah by keeping these things
also.
>
>From Rob: "Most argue that because we have changed the meaning of
>those "festivals" to a worship and celebration of God, they are no
>longer pagan."

>From Eddie:
*************
This is a somewhat normal response among believers because
TRADITIONS are HARD to change ESPECIALLY religious traditions.
PART of what I show in my book, "Who is the Bride of Christ?" when is
that the Bible tells us that this is the EXACT SAME THING that the
children of Israel did.
Christmas and Easter is a type of "golden calf" system of worship.
What is the "golden calf" system of worship? It is MIXING paganism
with the worship of the God of Israel and calling this mixed worship
the true worship of the God of Israel.
In Exodus 32:4-6 it is written:
"And he received them at their hand, and fashioned it with a graving
tool and after he had made it a MOLTED CALF: and they said, THESE BE
THY GOD O ISRAEL, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt. And
when Aaron saw it, he built an altar before it and Aaron (a type of
church leader) made proclamation and said: 'Tomorrow is a FEAST TO THE
LORD. And they rose up early on the morning and offered BURNT
OFFERINGS and brought PEACE OFFERINGS and the people sat down to eat
and to drink and rose up to play"
Burnt offering and peace offerings and feast to the Lord is how the
God of Israel commanded His people to worship Him but they EXPRESSED
that worship with a "golden calf".
Jeroboam, the leader of the Northern Kingdom of Israel (a type of
Christianity) did the same thing in I Kings 12.28-32 as it is written:
"Whereupon the king took counsel and made two calves of gold and said
unto them, It is TOO MUCH for you to go to Jerusalem (as God commanded
in Deuteronomy 16:16): behold thy GODS O ISRAEL, which brought thee up
out of the land of Egypt. And he set the one in Bethel and the other
put he in Dan"
This is prophetic because "Bethel" means "house of God". Dan comes
from Hebrew word, "Din" which means "judgment". The people called it
"The house of God" but God referred to it as "Dan/Din" or judgment.
Ultimately, God judged the Northern Kingdom and dispersed them into
the nations and they REAPED what the SOWED which was ASSIMILATION or
MIXING.
The reason for God's judgment upon this system is given in
II Kings 17:9-14 as it is written:
"And the children of Israel did secretly those things that were not
right against the Lord their God and they built them high places in
all their cities, from the tower of the watchmen to the fenced city.
And they set up images and GROVES (Asherah ... from which we get the
custom of the Christmas tree ... Jeremiah 10:1-4) in every high hill
and under every green tree. And there they burnt incense (a type of
false worship) in all the high places, as did the heathen whom the
Lord carried away before them: and wrought wicked things to provoke
the Lord to anger. For they served idols whereof the Lord had said
unto them, Ye shall not do this thing. Yet the Lord testified against
Israel and against Judah by all the prophets and by all the seers
saying, Turn ye from your evil ways and KEEP MY COMMANDMENTS and my
statues according to all the TORAH which I commanded your fathers and
which I sent to you by my servants the prophets. Notwithstanding they
would not hear, but hardened their necks, like the neck of their
fathers, that did not believe in the Lord their God"
The worship SYSTEM of the people was in THEIR MINDS the worship of the
God of Israel. When God sent His messengers to the people and told
them "you don't have it quite right" they rejected the messengers
because they viewed that they were worshipping the God of Israel and
they had a covenant with Him and so their reaction was the following:
who are you to judge my faith in God?
You get a similar response from Christians. They feel offended
because they believe in Jesus as Messiah and EXPRESS this worship
through Christmas and Easter.
When you try to tell them that YES, Yeshua/Jesus IS MESSIAH and this
is NOT a salvation issue but a WORSHIP issue they still find it hard
to accept. The children of Israel responded in a similar way. See,
many Christians view themselves as being better than ancient Israel
and all the sins that they committed because they believe they
CORRECTLY believe that Yeshua/Jesus is Messiah but IN TRUTH,
historical Christianity has committed the SAME SINS !!!!

Dear Eddie:
I absolutely loved your response. I never cease to be amazed at how
God is calling His people back to a true WORSHIP and weaning them from
idolatry. There are so MANY who hunger and thirst after truth and have
to glean and flounder in order to find it. Again, we all thank you
for being obedient and taking on this educational process.
For myself, since I had no church teaching to speak of, and since I
had a rather dramatic (if not traumatic) conversion (born again)
experience I had to rely on scripture to teach me. I never could see
where Sunday, Christmas and Easter fit into how God told us to worship
Him. I knew He emphasized the Sabbath and keeping the Feasts (it is
right there, in black and white, His commandments for "eternity.") I
had also studied Humanities at the university level and KNEW the
origins of these holidays were pagan. This is NOT hidden information.
Still, I figured so many good Christians couldn't be wrong. So I
began to ask WHY we don't keep what God himself commanded and had
instituted these pagan holidays. Well, you know the MISUNDERSTANDING.
" You are a legalist. We don't have to keep these laws, they've all
been done away, etc." Which I noticed was a bit hypocritical because
HaShem help you if you missed coming to church on "the Sabbath"
(Sunday), or didn't show for Christmas or Easter service. I reckoned
then, that the church had truly SUBSTITUTED these days. I could find
no where in scripture where this authority was given to men (to
override God's eternal commandment.). I tried going to Sabbath
keeping churches but found that, other than keeping Sabbath, they
were not correct in biblical doctrine. In fact, even the Sabbath was a
salvation issue, which I knew was unbiblical. There will be many
Roman Catholics in heaven, folks!
ANYway, I rejoice that now we know we are not alone. There are MANY
of us and our numbers are growing so we have opportunity for
fellowship and someone with whom to share these wonderful gifts of the
Sabbath and the Feasts! Isn't that great!?!
Lastly, I am curious about your history on the Christmas tree. I know
many have likened this to the Asherah (clearly an idol). But my
research always dead ends at Martin Luther. I lived in Germany for
many years and they really believe it was he who so enjoyed seeing a
small tree on a snowy night, with stars shining through its branches,
that he brought it indoors and put candles on it to represent the
stars. Apparently other ornaments were added later to represent the
gifts of the Magi. They are adamant that the Christmas tree is
CHRISTIAN in origin. Where would I find something directing me
beyond Luther? We definitely want to root out the pagan symbols, but
there is no need to get crazy and throw out innocent trees, if they
are not really pagan in origin. Just wanted to know.
Thank you and Shalom and Shabbat Shalom!

Greetings,
Read Jeremiah chapter 10 concerning xmas (tree). Also pick up a copy
of Mystery Bablon the Great (The Mother of Harlots and Abominations of
the Earth) By Darrell Conder. Chapters 4 & 5 cover both xmas &
easter. After reading these two chapters you'll never go back to
keeping these obvious pagan days.

Eddie:
My 2 cents worth. Our Messiah is returning for a Bride who is without
spot, wrinkle, or blemish. She knows the difference between clean and
unclean, and worships her beloved in spirit and in truth. As far as
trying to justify having an Asher pole and calling it "clean," God hit
me right between the eyes with Jeremiah 10:1-4:
"Here what the Lord says to you, O house of Israel. This is what the
Lord says: Do not learn the ways of the nations or be terrified by
signs in the sky, though the nations are terrified by them. For the
customs of the peoples are worthless; they cut a tree out of the
forest and a craftsman shapes it with his chisel. They adorn it with
silver and gold; they fasten it with hammer and nails so it will not
totter."
HELLO! This directive leaves no room for interpretation. As King
Solomon said, there is nothing new under the sun. Once an Asher pole,
always an Asher pole--no matter what kind of "righteousness" you try
to impart, it is unclean and it is not God's way.
Last year was the first year I did not celebrate Christmas, and what a
blessing. I cleaned my house of about $3,000 of exquisite Christmas
paraphernalia. Oh, well. His feasts and days are perfect. There is
and unexplainable peace and joy that result in observing His days in
accordance with His ways.
Once God circumcises your heart and shows you what is pagan (unclean),
letting go is still a choice that has to be made. With the help of
the Holy Spirit, it becomes easy when character and desires of our
beloved are known through His word.

Shalom Eddie, fellow Rooters!
I know we've argued the toss ad infinitum over this issue, BUT there
are those new to the group who're just beginning to puzzle over the
whole thing. So as Jew-loving Gentile believer, may I add some
thoughts which hopefully will be of some encouragement.
I'm now totally behind Eddie on this, even though I've not read his
book about the Biblical Festivals yet, or at least only a couple of
chapters on his web-page. Eddie you're sooo right in saying that the
issue has absolutely nothing to do with salvation. My salvation does
NOT depend on whether I celebrate Easter or Passover, or my observing
or not observing Christmas. 1000s of generations of Jews have
celebrated Passover/ Pesach, but the Scriptures show us quite plainly
that many of them did so because it was TRADITION. Just as many Jews
do today. Many Jews celebrate Shabbat, because it is tradition, just
as many "Christians" go to Sunday church, because it is tradition.
Religious tradition is meaningless, if Yahweh-focused worship is not
at the heart of it. A heart, that is truly seeking a closer
relationship with HaShem, will be EDUCATED (guided in study) by Ruach
HaKodesh, just as Eddie stated.
This year I gave up Easter, because God laid it on my heart to do so.
We've not got around to discussing Christmas yet!! However, here's a
thought about Christmas. A few years ago (1994-95 to be precise) I
was studying in Bavaria, Germany. For some years, I'd become
increasingly cheesed off with Christmas, which in Britain has become
more and more commercialized as it is in the USA. I don't know about
over there, across the Pond, but here it begins before Halloween!! By
the time, the 25th Dec came around, I was about ready to go into
hibernation. I was also somewhat hacked off with fellow evangelicals
(and still am) who, knowing that Yeshua/ Jesus was NOT born 24/25 Dec,
still got/get caught up in all that materialistic hazzle.
Then came Christmas 1994. I wasn't flying home from Bavaria until
23rd Dec, so I was able to see and experience a totally different
Christmas. AND the LORD thoroughly blessed me too. Although Christmas
in Germany is much more commercialized than it used to be, and Germany
itself has become more secularized, Germans are still very "religious"
when it comes to Christmas, especially down in the south. There the
season does not begin until Advent weekend, when the shops, streets
and houses seem to change overnight. Within 24 hours, everywhere is a
blaze of colour, light, and winter greenery. It's very difficult to
describe all my feelings during that Advent season, but certainly for
the first time in years, I felt that familiar "buzz". For the first
time in quite a few years, I was looking beyond the tinzel, the
glitter, the commercialism, the paganism of the festival. OK, I was
well aware it was still the "wrong date". BUT, it wasn't familiar
tradition which caused the "buzz". I felt some kind of spiritual
release, that is my WORSHIP that Christmas was truly Yeshua-focused.
In my inadequate way, I'm trying to illustrate what Eddie has been
trying to show us. Last Christmas, I hardly celebrated it at all.
I spent those few days very quietly - almost in peaceful isolation!
AND the LORD blessed me then too. Next Christmas? I don't know. I'd
like to celebrate Hanukkah instead. BUT whatever I do, I hope and
pray that my worship will be Yeshua-focused.
Baruch HaShem,
Susan.

To the Group:
Just because December 25 was the ancient
day to worship a pagan god doesn't mean that modern day Christmas
celebrants are in any way promoting paganism. The greenery of the day
may have originally had something to do with nature worship, but not
anymore. When I see a Christmas tree ablaze with lights I see an
image of Christ. The evergreen of the tree reminds us of His undying
nature. The lights symbolize His indwelling light --the light of His
glorious transfiguration and resurrection. The giving of gifts
celebrates the ultimate gift of love which He gave--His life for us.
The star on the tree is the Morning Star.
No, there is nothing wrong with Christians celebrating the birth of
Christ, no matter what the day or the trappings. We know what we are
celebrating and why. Shouldn't we be more interested in the INTENT
of the holiday, and not the externals? Just my two cents. Shalom to all!

***************
In response toward Christmas saying to me it is worshipping the birth
of Jesus, perhaps I should take this time to explain once again
something that is hardly ever taught in our Christian churches ---
this being the GOLDEN CALF SYSTEM of worship.
Exodus 32 describes the account of the children of Israel making a
golden calf.
This happened AFTER God gave the Torah to the children of Israel at
Mount Sinai in Exodus 19.
In Acts 2, we have the account when God outpoured His Ruach HaKodesh
(Holy Spirit) and ushered in the New Covenant era when the TORAH would
be written in our HEARTS (Jer 31:33, Hebrews 10:15-16.)
The SAME THING that happened HISTORICALLY AFTER God gave the Torah to
the children of Israel at Mount Sinai is what HISTORICALLY happened
AFTER God made it possible to write His TORAH on our hearts through
the indwelling Holy Spirit nearly 2,000 years ago.
In I Corinthians 10:11 it is written:
"Now all these things happened unto them for examples and they are
written for our admonition upon whom the ENDS OF THE WORLD ARE COME"
So, what happened HISTORICALLY to the children of Israel was given to
teach us SPIRITUAL TRUTHS to give us understanding in living our lives
so that we can understand the ways of the kingdom of heaven and how
things will be in the world to come. So, let's apply this truth.
In our story, Moses is a type of Yeshua/Jesus. Aaron is a type of the
"church fathers".
In Exodus 32:1 it is written:
"And when the people saw that Moses delayed (when the early church who
was expecting the return in Yeshua/Jesus in THEIR generation and when
they saw that he did not return) to come down from the mount (to come
back at His second coming), the people gathered themselves together
unto Aaron (the early church gathered themselves unto the "church
fathers") and said unto him, Up make us gods (let us depart from the
roots of our faith) which shall go before us: for as this Moses, the
man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt (Yeshua/Jesus who paid
the price of punishment for our sins and redeemed us from the world
and world's ways) we know not what is become of him (we don't know why
Yeshua/Jesus didn't return in our generation)"
In Exodus 32:4-6 it is written:
"And he received them at their hand, and fashioned it with a graving
tool: after he had made it a MOLTEN CALF: and they said, These be thy
god O ISRAEL, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt. And
when Aaron said it, he BUILT AN ALTAR before it and Aaron made a
proclamation, and said, Tomorrow is a FEAST OF THE LORD. And they
rose up early on the morrow and offered burnt offerings (Genesis 22:3
.. And Abraham rose up early in the morning ... and took ... for the
burnt offering) and brought peace offerings and the people sat down to
eat and to drink and rose up to play"
The GOLDEN CALF system of worship is:
#1) A substitute worship SYSTEM of God (Golden Calf)
#2) Worship of the God of Israel (i.e. A FEAST TO THE LORD and BURNT
OFFERINGS and PEACE OFFERINGS)
MIXING paganism (the golden calf) with the worship of the God of
Israel (FEAST TO THE LORD, BURNT OFFERINGS and PEACE OFFERINGS) and
calling THIS the worship of the God of Israel is the GOLDEN CALF
system of worship.
MIXING paganism (December 25th is the birthday of the sun god in
Mythraism) with the worship of the God of Israel (the celebration of
the birth of Yeshua/Jesus and remembering that God sent Yeshua/Jesus
into the world to redeem us from our sins) and calling THIS the
worship of the God of Israel is the GOLDEN CALF system of worship.
After the golden calf incident, God wanted to destroy the children of
Israel BUT MOSES MEDIATED between G-d's anger and the sins of the
people (Yeshua/Jesus is the mediator between G-d and man . Hebrews
12:24) and G-d forgave the people.
In I Kings 12:28-32, Jeroboam reinitiates the golden calf system of
worship as it is written:
"Whereupon the king took counsel and made TWO CALVES OF GOLD and said
unto them, It is too much for you to go to Jerusalem (as God specified
in the Torah ... Deuteronomy 16:16): behold THY GODS. O ISRAEL, which
brought thee up out of the land of Egypt. And he set the one in
Bethel (which means Beth (house) El (God) or "House of God") and the
other put he in Dan (from Din which means "judgment"). And this thing
became a SIN for the people went to worship before the one, even unto
Dan. And he made a house of high places and made priests of the
LOWEST of the people which were NOT of the sons of Levi (a violation
of Torah). And Jeroboam ordained a feast on the EIGHT MONTH on the
fifteenth day of the month, LIKE unto the feast that is in Judah (the
feast of Tabernacles ... Lev 23:34) and he offered upon the ALTER. So
did he in Bethel (House of God) sacrificing unto the CALVES that he
had MADE ..."
Here we can see that the GOLDEN CALF system of worship has a
SUBSTITUTE HOLIDAY (8th month -- 15th day rather than the 7th month
and the 15th day). Christmas and Easter are SUBSTITUTE holidays for
the BIBLICAL FEASTS in Leviticus 23.
The Northern Kingdom is PROPHETIC of Christianity. In Hosea 1, God
tells Hosea to marry a whore (symbolic of spiritual idolatry and the
golden calf system of worship) and prophecies to the Northern Kingdom.
Two of the children mentioned are called:
#1) Lo-Ruhamah (no mercy) .... Hosea 1:6
#2) Lo-Ammi (not my people) ... Hosea 1:9
This is associated with CHRISTIANITY. In I Peter 2:5, 10 it is
written:
"Ye are lively stones, are built up a spiritual house ... acceptable
to God by Jesus Christ ... which in TIMES PAST were NOT A PEOPLE
(Lo-Ammi ... Hosea 1:9) but are now the people of God which had NOT
OBTAINED MERCY (Lo-Ruhamah) ... Hosea 1:6) but now have obtained
mercy".
Therefore from these scriptures we can see:
#1) The GOLDEN CALF system of worship is MIXING paganism with the
worship of the God of Israel and calling this system the
worship of the God of Israel.
#2) The GOLDEN CALF system of worship involved SUBSTITUTE
HOLIDAYS for the God given Feasts as found in Lev 23.
#3) The Northern Kingdom who did this thing through Jeroboam is
prophetic of Christianity
#4) Moses and Aaron in Exodus 32 is prophetic of Christ and the
early church fathers
Therefore is Christmas and Easter a golden calf system of worship of
the God of Israel ??? I believe that the answer is most certainly
yes. Can you be saved and celebrate Christmas and Easter? The answer
is yes. It may not affect you salvation but it will certainly affect
your understanding of God and the ways of His Kingdom which can
definitely impact your spiritual growth and thus your rewards in
heaven (exclusive of salvation).
I would exhort all the Mishpachah (family) to consider what is the
golden calf system of worship as you decide to study and make the
Biblical Feast days a part of your worship of the God of Israel.
