CJ,
I have been studying the Jewish bridal traditions, and how they parallel
our relationship with christ, for the last 2+ years. I have also run across
this mention of the alabaster box, but have found no absolutes on it.
I thought you might also be interested in another tidbit that I ran across
about this box (remember that I have no confirmation on this). I have read
the same things you mentioned, except that she broke the SEAL and annointed
him with oil, and that along with the cup of wine, was an agreement to enter
under his authority as his wife. The box was a very integral part of their
married life, and could not be broken.
The alabaster box had a very sexual connotation in that culture. I have read
that women annointed their husbands before or after intimate relations, and
that prostitutes would annoint men at banquet gatherings to confirm their
availability.
I agree with you, that whatever the meaning, this gift was extremely
valuable, not only in monetary terms, but in social and marital terms. It
ties very closely with the Song of Songs, and I think the lesson is for me to
ask myself if I have given all I have to give to Christ, and if not, am I
willing to.
I am looking forward to the reply to your email... whether it is
confirmation, or negating these ideas. I would like to know for sure, where
this alabaster box stood in the Jewish home.
thanks for subitting your question... I am sure there are many others
interested in the reply.

Dear Sir or Madam:
>
>During a bible study meeting, a question was raised that we needed to
>get some help and clarification on. The question is where did the
>Gentile race originate from? This question was based on the following
>assumptions. If God destroyed all living creatures on earth by the
>great flood with the exception of Noah and his family (sons and
>daughters-in-law) and Noah and all were Jewish, this would mean the
>earth was repopulated by Jewish blood. Where did the Gentile

From Eddie:

Noah was NOT Jewish. Abraham was the first Hebrew.
The word
Hebrew means "one that crosses over". Abraham left "Babylon" and
went to the land of Israel in obedience to the God of Israel.
Abraham had Isaac who had Jacob. Jacob had a son
named Judah.
It is from the word "Judah" that we get the word "Jew". In a literal
sense, Judah was the first Jew.
Later, the house of Judah (Southern
Kingdom) were also
called Jews. This included the tribes of Judah, Levi and part of
Benjamin. The house of Israel (Northern Kingdom) are NOT Jewish. They
are Israelites. All Jews are Israelites but not all Israelites are
Jews.
>
> We would appreciate it if you can share an explanation on this
>question. Does "Gentile" mean a blood race different from the Jewish
>race or a race of Jewish people not of Jewish practice?
>
> Thank you.

According to the Rabbi's, the God
of Israel divided the
non-Jewish nations into 70 nations following the flood based upon the
number of the children of Israel who went to Egypt.
In Deut 32:8, when the God of
Israel divided the nations
(Gen 11:8), He did so according to the number of the children of Israel which was
seventy (Exodus 1:1-5).
Abraham descends from Shem
(Genesis 11:10-32). The sons of
Ham and Japheth is given in Genesis 10. Following the flood, the
nations of the world descend from Shem, Ham and Japheth.

Sophie,
There are NOT three Gods. However, the
God of Israel (YHVH)
is a compound unity. Deut 6:4 and Mark 12:29 says in Hebrew that the
God of Israel is ECHAD. Echad is the Strong's word 259. It comes from
the Hebrew root ACHAD (Strong's word 258) which means "TO UNIFY".
You cannot unify something that is exclusively singular. Therefore,
YHVH is NOT exclusively singular. He is a compound unity.
The name of the God of Israel is YHVH (I
AM). You can think
of YHVH as "God the Father". YHVH is infinite and eternal. Once you
attempt to define YHVH (who is infinite and eternal) then by
definition of DEFINE, He would no longer be infinite and eternal.
YHVH is a Spirit (John 4:24). In
order to describe a
being who is infinite and eternal who is Spirit to human beings who
have finite minds, the characteristics / attributes of YHVH are put into human
descriptions so that finite human beings can relate to an infinite
and eternal being who is Spirit. The infinite and eternal YHVH who is
Spirit reveals Himself in a human way to mankind through His
manifestations.
The Jewish Messiah Yeshua/Jesus is
the WORD OF YHVH. The
Jewish Messiah Yeshua/Jesus is the WORD OF YHVH manifested in the
flesh. The WORD OF YHVH is of the compound unity (ECHAD) being YHVH.
The WORD OF YHVH is the LIVING TORAH/WORD OF YHVH manifested in the
flesh.
Normally in Christianity, the
Holy Spirit is called a HE.
However, the Hebrew word for SPIRIT (Ruach) is feminine. The Hebrew
word SHEKINAH is also feminine. Technically, the Jewish Messiah
Yeshua/Jesus is the male figure of YHVH. The Holy Spirit is the
female figure of YHVH.
YHVH has both male and female
characteristics. The Jewish
Messiah Yeshua/Jesus represents the male characteristics (primarily)
of YHVH. The Holy Spirit (Ruah HaKodesh) represents the female
characteristics (primarily) of YHVH.
The God of Israel
created man in his own image and they
were male and female (Genesis 1:27). Man = male and female. Therefore, we
can understand that the God of Israel has BOTH male and female
charactistics. Mercy, love, compassion, comforter etc are female
characteristics. King of the Universe, Judge etc are male
characteristics.
The Holy Spirit (Ruach
HaKodesh) is the SPIRIT OF YHVH.
The SPIRIT OF YHVH is of the compound unity (ECHAD) being YHVH.
The WORD OF YHVH
is NOT the same as the SPIRIT OF YHVH.
YHVH (God the Father) = WORD OF YHVH + SPIRIT OF YHVH plus many other
characteristics / attributes (El Shaddai etc).
As an
apologetic against Christianity, modern Rabbinic
Judaism says that the Messiah is not YHVH. There is a DANGER among
non-Jews who have a desire to embrace their Hebraic/Jewish roots,
love the Jewish people and the land of Israel to automatically
embrace what rabbinic Judaism teaches and regard everthing within
Christianity as being "pagan". Therefore, there is an increasing
POISONOUS teaching within "Hebraic roots / Messianic Jewish" circles
that teaches that the Jewish Messiah Yeshua/Jesus is not God thereby
embracing the modern traditional rabbinic Jewish view.
While
the roots of our faith is Jewish, we CANNOT
worship Judaism or worship Jews or worship Orthodox Rabbis. We are to
be BEREANS (Acts 17:11) and worship the God of Israel and keep the
Jewish Messiah the CENTER all all things. In the volume of the book,
it is written of HIM (Psalm 40:7).
If
we study ANCIENT Jewish writings, the Messiah
IS described as being the WORD OF YHVH (the Targums for example which
are paraphrases of the Torah).
So,
the WORD OF YHVH is a unity of YHVH. The
SPIRIT OF YHVH is a unity of YHVH. Yet, YHVH = Word of YHVH + Spirit
of YHVH plus other characteristics / attributes.
The
Jewish Messiah Yeshua/Jesus IS YHVH
manifested in the flesh. The one who sets His feet upon the mount of
Olives (Zech 14:4) is described in Zech 14:3 in Hebrew as YHVH.

Lee,
Jesus is the Strong's word 2424 in the
Greek Concordance. In
the Strong's Greek Dictionary, it will tell you that it is of the
Hebrew Strong's word (3091) which in English is Joshua. The
difference in the Hebrew is like saying Mike versus Michael in
English. Mike is the shortened form of Michael.
Joshua in Hebrew is Yehoshua.
Yeshua in Hebrew means
salvation. Yehoshua means Ya (The Lord) saves.
In Hebrews 4:8 the King James
Version says that "if Jesus
had given them rest" meaning Joshua.
Yes, Yeshua (Jesus) and
Yehoshua (Joshua) is essentially the
same in Hebrew.

Everybody has their favorite Bibles but my
favorite Bible is
the Zodhiates Hebrew-Greek Key Study Bible King James Version.
I like the King James Bible the best but it does have some
translation errors in some places. For example in Acts 12:4, it
talks about "Easter". The word translated as Easter is the Strong's
word 3957. This is the ONLY place in the King James Version where the
Strong's word 3957 is translated as EASTER. Everywhere else, it is
translated as PASSOVER. This is an example of a translation error.
An example of a translation bias is
Romans 10:4 , where it
says that Christ is the "END" of the law for righteousness to
everyone that believes. This implies that Christ did away with the
Torah. However, the Greek word for "end" is the Strong's word 5056
which is telios which means "goal / target". The goal or the target
of the Torah points to Messiah who is our righteousness to all who
believer in Him. The Jewish New Testament by David Stern has the
better translation of this verse.
I hope that these two
examples answers your question.
