Subject: Yod v' Taggim
Yod v' Taggim: Matthew 5:17
The letter "yod" is the smallest letter in the hebrew alefbet.
The "taggim" is the "crown" of the letters, the pointy little things
that
even we have in our "serif" letters today...
Now, Matthew 5:17 could of course be translated:
"In truth I declare to you: Before heaven and earth pass away, not even a
yod, yea not even a taggim in the Torah shall vanish, before all that must
happened has happened."
A translation more true to the hebrew and the understanding of the oral
Torah would yet be:
"In truth I declare: Before heaven and earth pass away, nothing - neither
the simplest commandment or the hardest commandment shall be removed from
the Torah, before all that has happened must happen."
So. Who am I to say this. What does it mean?
"Yod" is also "Yad" meaning "hand" - Which represents that
which is simple
enough to do...
while "Taggim" is "Point" like "spearpoint" or
"thorn" - which represents
something that is not easily handled.
Just thought you'd get something out of this.
Sincerely,
Lars-Toralf
