LEPROUSY IS A PUNISHMENT FOR BLOODSHED

Midrash Rabbah - Numbers 7:10

‘For bloodshed.’ How so? Since the text says, So ye shall not pollute the land... for blood, it polluteth the land (Numbers 35:33), Scripture tells us that bloodshed defiles the land and the Shechinah departs. Moreover, on account of bloodshed the Temple was destroyed and Israel went from their land into exile. The above sins were being committed in the time of the first Temple and therefore Israel were exiled and the Temple was destroyed.
