THE SEASON OF TESHUVAH
A special season known as Teshuvah which in Hebrew means “to repent or return” begins on the first day of Elul. Elul is the name given today for the sixth month of the Biblical calendar. The season of Teshuvah ends forty days after the first day of Elul on Yom Kippur / the day of atonement.
Yom Kippur is the seventh month and the tenth day of the month. Tishrei is the name given today for the seventh month of the Biblical calendar. Thirty days into Teshuvah on Tishrei 1 comes Rosh HaShanah / Yom Teruah.
