THE DAY OF THE AWAKENING BLAST

Rosh HaShanah is known as Yom Teruah or the “Day of the Awakening Blast”. A Teruah can also be translated as a “shout”.

A theme associated with Rosh HaShanah is to “awaken” those who have fallen into spiritual slumber. The sounding of the shofar is meant to arouse those who have fallen asleep spiritually.
