"Brit-Am Israel". (Brit = Covenant, Am = People in Hebrew)
"Brit-Am Israel" at present is headed by Yair Davidy and by Rabbi

"BRIT-AM ISRAEL" BELIEVES:
* The Hebrew Bible is the message of God.
* Out of the original 12 Tribes of Israel Ten were lost. Two
remained. The present-day Jews are descended mainly from the two
remaining Tribes of Judah and Benjamin.
* The Khazars were a Kingdom in southern Russia many of whose
leaders converted to Judaism. The Khazars were descended from the
Lost Ten Tribes. The Khazars were blood-relatives of the Picts who
went to Scotland, and of the Anglo-Saxons, and of peoples in
Scandinavia.
* In addition to the Khazars, many other converts to Judaism
through the ages were descended from assimilated Jews or from members
of the Lost Ten Tribes.
* Most of the Lost Ten Tribes migrated to Northwest and Western
Europe and their descendants are now in those areas or in North
America, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa.
* We do not claim that all residents of the said nations are
descended from Israel. We do however affirm that most descendants of
the Lost Ten Tribes are residents of those nations. On the whole
they are unaware of their Israelite Identity. Even so in the course
of history the Israelite origins of peoples in those areas have
influenced national developments and national characteristics.
* The Tribe of Joseph was divided into two other Tribes: Ephraim
and Menasseh. People from ALL of the Israelite Tribes congregated in
North America but in general the U.S.A. is dominated by Menasseh.
Britain has characteristics of Ephraim.
* Reuben was important in France, Issachar in Switzerland, Benjamin
in Belgium, Zebulon in Holland, Dan in Denmark, Naphtali in Norway,
Gad in Sweden, the country of Finland was influenced by the Tribes of
Simeon, Issachar, and Gad; Simeon, Dan, and Ephraim were important in
Ireland.
* There is a need for the present-day "Jews" of Judah and the Lost
Ten Tribes to recognize each other, and to work towards
re-unification and reconciliation.
* Proof exists confirming "Brit-Am Israel" Identity beliefs.
Some
of the evidence has been presented in works by Yair Davidy such as
"The Tribes" (1993), "Ephraim" (1995), and "Lost Israelite
Identity"
(1996), as well as in articles in our journal "Tribesman". Much
additional evidence is available and needs to be uncovered and
published. Our sources include the Bible, Talmud, Midrashim,
Commentators, Classical Greek and Roman historians, Chroniclers,
Legends, Linguistics, Archaeology, and where pertinent racial and
other scientific studies.
* Even though much of the evidence has been revealed by ourselves it
is not ours alone. Our proofs have never been properly refuted. The
basic claims we have made are irrefutable. If one cannot deny our
claims and there is nobody else who can it follows that one should
accept them. This means that the identity of the Lost Ten Tribes of
Israel with western peoples should be acknowledged. Once this
acknowledgment is forthcoming it is possible to discuss whatever
practical conclusions need to be made.

NOTE FROM EDDIE:
FYI: Yair Davidy is an ORTHODOX JEW. He does NOT believe in:
#1) Replacement theology
#2) Christian British Israelism
Yair Davidy / Brit-Am / Orthodox Jews DO believe in:
#1) The Restoration of BOTH houses of Israel in the future (the
Messianic redemption or the Ingathering of the Exiles) (Ezekiel
37:15-28) when the house of Israel (The Ten Lost Tribes) join
themselves to / with the house of Judah in the end of days.
Recently, I ordered from Brit-Am and read the first three issues of
the MAGAZINE BRIT-AM. The articles and the information in the magazine
was OUTSTANDING.
It is VITAL in these days in which we live to understand that the
belief in the restoration of both houses of Israel / Messianic
Redemption / Ingathering of the Exiles and the reuniting of Ephraim
(Ten Lost Tribes) with Judah and Ephraim returning to Torah is a
fundamental and foundational belief of Orthodox Judaism. It is one of
the 13 articles of Jewish faith and a prayer for the Messianic
Redemption / Restoration of both houses of Israel is prayed THREE
times a day by Orthodox Jews.
I would HIGHLY recommend that our newsgroup members subscribe to the
Brit-Am magazine to gain a greater understanding of Orthodox Jewish
belief regarding this issue. In a recent edition of the magazine,
Brit-Am stated that they have come to the conclusion that the primary
religion of the Ten Lost Tribes today is Christianity.
Brit-Am declares that this information is VITAL to your
understanding of the Bible and Hebraic Heritage Ministries Int'l
agrees. Please consider obtaining the first 3 issues of the Brit-Am
magazine and subscribing to future editions.
Yours for the restoration of both houses of Israel,
Eddie Chumney

THE LOST TEN TRIBES IN PROPHECY
by Yair Davidy (an ORTHODOX
JEW)
An Overall View:
Introduction: The following notes prove that the LOST
TEN TRIBES migrated
to Northwest Europe and settled there and that their descendants are now in
those places as well as in North America, Australia, New Zealand, and South
Africa. This can be proven from historical, linguistic, archaeological,
mythological, and related evidence BUT the present talk is going to
concentrate almost entirely on proof from the Bible.
Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob were the forefathers of the
Israelite people.
Promises made by God to the Patriarchs were destined to be filfulled by
their descendants and some of these promises have been fulfilled only by
peoples in Northwest Europe. This proves that these peoples are descended
from them. This subject of the Patriarchs and the Promised Blessings made to
them having come about, -will be returned to, -but first we will take about
who the LOST TEN TRIBES were and how it was prophesied that they would go to
western Europe.
PART 1
The first Hebrew was Abraham. Abraham begat Isaac and Isaac begat
Jacob who
was re-named Israel. Israel had 12 sons who fathered the 12 Tribes of
Israel. The Twelve Tribes were Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Asher, Gad,
Nephtali, Dan, Joseph and Benjamin. Joseph had 2 sons, Ephraim and Menasseh,
who became important Tribes in their own right. Two of the most important
tribes were Judah and Ephraim. The Tribe of Ephraim believed it should be
the head tribe and there was sometimes tension between Ephraim and the other
tribes on this issue. Judah also was an important tribe. Judah headed the
tribes in the south and there was also tension between the tribes in the
south (headed by Judah) and those in the north. King David was from the
Tribe of Judah and he made Jerusalem the capital city of all Israel.
Jerusalem was on the border between Judah and Benjamin. It was Solomon the
son of David who built the Temple in Jerusalem.
THE DIVISION
It says in the first Book of Kings (chapter 11) that during
Solomon's
lifetime it was prophesied that after his death the kingdom of Israel would
be split in two and that ten tribes would be headed by Jeroboam the son of
Nebat from the Tribe of Ephraim. Jeroboam was an official of king Solomon
and in charge of the House of Joseph (11:28) meaning most of the northern
Tribes of Israel.. Jeroboam rebelled against King Solomon and fled to Egypt
where he remained until Solomon died. After Solomon died, Rehoboam the son
of king Solomon became king.
In 1-Kings, chapter 12, it says:
(12:1)"And Rehoboam went to Shechem for all Israel were come to Shechem to
make him king. Shechem was north of Jerusalem, it was in the
territory of Ephraim. It continues to say,
(12:2-3)"And it came to pass, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who was
yet in Egypt, heard of it (for he was fled from the presence of king
Solomon, and Jeroboam dwelt in Egypt,)
"That they sent and called him. And Jeroboam and all the congregation of
Israel came, and spake unto Rehoboam, saying, -i.e. When Solomon
died, Jeroboam was called back from Egypt, He returned
to Israel and was made the spokesman of the Tribes. A delegation of the
Israelite headed by Jeroboam came to Rehoboam and asked for an alleviation
of duties. They said,
(12: 4-6) "Your father made our yoke grievous: now therefore make lighter
the grievous service of your father, and his heavy yoke which he put upon
us, , and we will serve you.
"And he said unto them, Depart yet for three days, then come again to me.
And the people departed.
"And king Rehoboam consulted with the old men , that stood before Solomon
his father while he yet lived, and said, How do you advise that I may answer
this people?
The elders answered Rehoboam and advised him to give the people a
conciliatory answer but Rehoboam would not listen. He went and took
alternative advice from the young men whom he had grown up with. The young
men advised Rehoboam to give a harsh, negative, and threatening answer.-
Just to show the people who was boss!
In the Book of Kings, it says that
(12:12-15) "And the king [meaning king Rehoboam] answered the people
roughly, and forsook the old men's counsel that they gave him;
"And spake to them after the counsel of the young men, saying, My father
made your yoke heavy, and I will add to your yoke: my father chastened you
with whips, but I will chasten you with scorpions.
"Wherefore the king hearkened not unto the people; for the cause was from
the LORD....[and it goes on]
Notice the words: "the cause was from the LORD" that means that God had His
own reasons for bringing these events about. The Bible continues,
(12:16-17) "So when all Israel saw that the king did not heed them, the
people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? neither
have we inheritance in the house of Jesse: to your tents, o Israel: then
Israel departed unto their tents.
"But as for the children of Israel which dwelt in the cities of Judah,
Rehoboam reigned over them.
From the above we see that the northern tribes rebelled with only Judah and
Benjamin remaining faithful in the south.
It says further,
1-Kings 12:19-24: " So Israel rebelled against the house of David unto this day.
"And it came to pass, when all Israel heard that Jeroboam was come again,
that they sent and called him unto the congregation, and made him king over
all Israel: there was none that followed the house of David, but the house
of Judah only.
"And when Rehoboam was come to Jerusalem, he assembled all the house of
Judah, with the tribe of Benjamin, a hundred and eighty thousand chosen men,
which were warriors, to fight against the house of Israel, to bring the
kingdom again to Rehoboam the son of Solomon.
"But the word of God came unto Shemaiah the man of God saying,
"Speak unto Rehoboam, the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and unto all the
house of Judah and Benjamin, and to the remnant of the people saying,
"So says the LORD, You shall not go up, nor fight against your brothers the
children of Israel: return every man unto his house; FOR THIS THING IS FROM
ME. They hearkened therefore to the word of the LORD , and returned to
depart, according to the word of the LORD.
We see from the above that the expression "house of Judah" included both
the Tribes of Judah and Benjamin.
We see therefore also that Judah and Benjamin were faithful to Rehoboam son
of Solomon, king of Judah from the house of David. All the rest of Israel
rebelled. The House of Judah and Benjamin who remained faithful to Rehoboam
were told not to go up to fight against the rebelling tribes in the north,
"FOR THIS THING IS FROM ME.....
"FOR THIS THING IS FROM ME, SAYS THE LORD....."
The Division was from God who had his own purposes in the Division.
In the same chapter of 1-Kings 12:25-31:
(12: 25-27) "Then Jeroboam built Shechem in mount Ephraim, and dwelt
therein; and went out from there and built Penuel.
"And Jeroboam said in his heart , Now shall the kingdom return unto the
house of David.
"If this people go up to do sacrifice in the house of the LORD at
Jerusalem, then shall the heart of this people turn again unto their lord,
unto Rehoboam king of Judah."
In Ancient Israel the people were accustomed to go up to Jerusalem three
times a year at the Festival times to sacrifice. Jeroboam was afraid that if
his subjects continued to go up to Jerusalem they would eventually want to
re-unite with the House of David and he would lose his kingdom.
(12:28- 31) "Whereupon the king took counsel and made two calves of gold,
and said unto them, it is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem: behold
your gods, o Israel who brought you up out of the land of Egypt.
"And he set the one in Beth-el, and the other put he in Dan.
"And this thing became a sin, for the peope went to worship unto one, even
unto Dan.
"And he made a house of high places and made priests of the lowest of the
peoples, which were not of the house of Levi."
So we see that Jeroboam instituted the worship of golden calves, one in Dan,
the other in Beth-el. And he replaced the service of the Levites with that
of people from the lower classes. Consequently (it says in 2-Chronicles
11:12-14) that the Levites left the northern kingdom and moved to the south
to the kingdom of Judah ruled by Rehoboam.
The Israelites in the northern kingdom continued to degenerate and
eventually became almost complete pagans.
THE EXILE AND ITS CAUSE: IDOLATRY !!!
Ahijah the Prophet was given a message by God which he gave to the wife
of
Jeroboam to pass onto to him (1-Kings chapter 14). What did the message
say? It predicted the death of Jeroboam and the exile of Israel:
(1-Kings 14:7-10): "Go tell Jeroboam..... I will bring evil upon the house
of Jeroboam....and will wipe away the remnants of the house of Jeroboam
then it says, further on (verse 15),
"For the LORD shall smite Israel as a reed is shaken in the water, and he
shall root up Israel out of this good land, which he gave to their fathers,
and shall scatter them beyond the river, ....
beyond the river -means Beyond the river Euphrates- i.e. to the area of
Assyria and the Assyrian Empire.
Why ?? Why?? Why was it prophesied that they would be exiled:
"Because" (says the Bible) "they have made their groves provoking the LORD
to anger. Because they had adopted idolatrous practices it was
prophesied that they would be taken away, out of their land.
14:16: "And he shall give Israel up because of the sins of Jeroboam, who did
sin, and who made Israel to sin.
So we see from this that in the time of Jeroboam it had already been
prophesied that Israel (meaning the northern tribes of Israel) would be exiled.
Much of the rest of the Books of Kings and the corresponding
chapters in
Chronicles deal with the separate histories of Judah and Israel: "Israel"
being the northern Ten Tribes and "Judah" being the southern two: Judah and
Benjamin. Both groups frequently worshipped foreign gods and went in the
ways of the nations around them, then Prophets would come and bring them
back to the right, path for a time.. On the whole it seems that the
northern kingdom degenerated more than the southern.
We find more than 200 years after the Division that the northern kingdom
was exiled.
In I Chronicles 5:25-26 it speaks of the Israelite Tribes that dwelt on the
other side of the Jordan. The Tribes of Reuben, Gad, and the half-tribe of
Menasseh.were exiled . The king of Assyria exiled them and took them to
places in the northern parts of the Assyrian Empire and settled them there.
"And they transgressed against the God of their fathers, and went a whoring
after the gods of the people of the land, whom God destroyed before them.
"And the God of Israel stirred up the spirit of Pul king of Assyria, and the
spirit of Tiglathpileser king of Assyria, and he carried them away, even the
Reubenites, and the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh, and brought
them unto Halah, and Habor, and Hara, and to the river Gozan, unto this day .
In 2-Kings 15:29, it says, "In the days of Pekah king of Israel came
Tiglathpileser king of Assyria, and took Ijon, and Abel-beth-maachah, and
Janoah, and Kedesh, and Hazor, and Gilead, and Galilee, all the land of
Naphtali, and carried them captive to Assyria.
So we see that the Israelites were exiled from their lands east of the
Jordan and also from the whole of the northern part of their kingdom and
from Galilee. This left only the area around the city of Samaria in the
southern section of the Kingdom of Israel and from here too, they were also
exiled:
2-Kings chapter 17, it says, "....The King of Assyria took Samaria, and
carried Israel away into Assyria, and placed them in Hala, and in Habor, and
in the cities of the Medes" (2-Kings 17:6).
-In other words he placed them in the same areas as the other tribes, the
tribes from east of the Jordan, had been placed in.
Why did this come upon them?
It continues in the next verses, verses 2-Kings 17:7-17 and tells in
detail how the northern Israelites had sinned and served idols and rejected
all of the laws and the covenant and went after the people around them and
did all bad deeds.
"And they left all the commandments of The LORD their God, and made them
molten images, two calves, and made a sacred pole, and worshipped all the
host of heaven, and served Baal.
"And they caused their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire and
used divination and enchantments, and sold themselves to do evil in the
sight of The LORD, to provoke him to anger" (2-Kings 17:16-17). So we see,
that BECAUSE THEY WORSHIPPED IDOLS AND ADOPTED FOREIGN
PRACTICES THEY WERE EXILED!!!
The exiled Israelites were taken to places in the north of
the Assyrian
Empire. In their places of exile they became identified with the
Cimmerians, Scythians, and Goths. From the Middle East they moved to the
north: into Central Asia, Russia, and eastern Europe and from those places
over the course of time they moved westwards. They had split up into
different peoples and they migrated at different times due to wars and
climatic changes BUT they DID all move to the west and in the end they all
converged on the same regions. Historically they can be traced to Northwest
Europe and the British Isles.
LOSS
OF IDENTITY
It had been prophesied that the LOST TEN TRIBES would
lose their identity;
that they would be spiritually considered non-Israelites and culturally
assimilate to the ways of the nations around them.
"Ephraim is smitten" -says Hosea 9:16-17: ".....My God will cast them away
,
because they did not hearken unto him: and they shall be wanderers among the
nations"
In Hosea 7:8 it says "Ephraim, he hath mixed himself among the
people...."
that is how the KJ translates it. The actual Hebrew is "Ephraim be-Amim
Hue Yitbolel..." which literally means "Ephraim will be assimilated
amongst
the peoples....".
Jeremiah (3:8). says- "Backsliding Israel had committed adultery, I had
put her away and given her a bill of divorce" . Likewise the Prophet Hosea,
referring to the Lost Tribes of the Kingdom of Israel, echoed, "Ye are not
my people and I will not be your God," (Hosea 1:9).
According to the Talmud (Yebamot 17a) the LOST TEN TRIBES were legally
classified as "Gentiles to all extents and purposes" -even though they were
destined to return, at the present time they have the status of non-Jews and
that is how it was prophesied their status would be.
The LOST TEN TRIBES are frequently referred to in Prophecy as
"Ephraim"
and in chapter 28 of Isaiah the northern Tribes are condemned because of
"the drunkards of Ephraim" and it is prophesied that Ephraim shall be
punished and it says, "with stammering lips and another tongue will he
speak to this people" (Isaiah 28:11) :this indicates that they would forget
their own language as indeed they did.--
Historically, it can be proven that the LOST TEN TRIBES reached
northwest
Europe and the British Isles. The Prophets spoke frequently of and to the
northern Tribes and they addressed themselves largely to the Ten Ten Tribes
in their own time or in the future; They spoke unto the Ten Tribes in the
Latter days. From these words of Prophecy it can be discerned exactly where
the LOST TEN TRIBES are today. On the whole the indications of Scripture
(and of the Talmud and Midrashim) are that the LOST TEN TRIBES would be
associated with each other and in the same general areas. The Prophetic
indications should be taken as parts of a whole: For instance, one Prophecy
says they are in the west, other prophecies say in the north, and another
says they are in the north and west: So taking them all together we can
assume a northwesterly direction from the Land of Israel and then see how
this ties up with other signs-of-direction.
LOST TEN TRIBES IN THE WEST:
It was also prophesied that the LOST TEN TRIBES would be in the west.
Hosea 11:9-10 : "I will not execute the fierceness of my anger, I will not
return to destroy Ephraim: for I am God, and not man; the Holy One in the
midst of you: and I will not enter into the city.
"They shall walk after the LORD: he shall roar like a lion: when he shall
roar, then the children shall tremble from the west.
-From this we see that the LOST TEN TRIBES would be in the west.
LOST TEN TRIBES IN THE NORTH:
It was also prophesied that they would be in the north:
Jeremiah the Prophet spoke of the LOST TEN TRIBES in the "north country":
"In those days the House of Judah shall walk with [in Hebrew:
"walk unto"]
the House of Israel, and they shall come together out of THE LAND OF THE
NORTH to the land that I have given for an inheritance unto your fathers"
(Jeremiah 3:18).
Again Jeremiah (16:14-15) says, "THEREFORE, behold,
the days come says the
LORD, that it shall no more be said, The LORD lives, that brought up the
children of Israel out of the land of Egypt;
But the LORD lives, that brought up the children of Israel from THE LAND OF
THE NORTH, and from all the lands whither he had driven them: and I will
bring them again unto their land that I gave unto their fathers"
From the above expression "THE LAND OF THE NORTH, and from all the lands
whither he had driven them" it may be inferred that "THE LAND OF THE
NORTH"
is the main land or area spoken of but other lands are also involved.,
Again in Jeremiah (31:8-10) it says: "Behold, I will bring
them from the
NORTH COUNTRY, and gather them from the COASTS OF THE EARTH, and with them
the blind and the lame, the woman with child and her that travails with
child together: a great company shall return hither.
"They shall come with weeping, and with supplications will I lead them: I
will cause them to walk by the rivers of water in a straight way, wherein
they shall not stumble: for I am a father to Israel and Ephraim is my
firstborn.
"Hear the word of ye nations , and declare it in the isles afar off, and say
He that scattered Israel shall gather him, and keep him, as a shepherd does
his flock.
"For the LORD has redeemed Jacob, and ransomed him from the hand of him who
was stronger than he. Declare in the ISLES AFAR OFF,. He that scattered
Israel will gather him.."
The above verses speak of northern Israel headed by EPHRAIM. "A great
company" meaning very many people is mentioned. The verse in addition to the
North Country includes "isles afar off" and "coastlands" and connects
"Ephraim" with all of them.. The expression "He that scattered Israel will
gather him" shows that the situation referred to is just before the
Ingathering in the Last days. The expression "and gather them from the
COASTS OF THE EARTH" is consistent with the fact that most Lost Ten
Tribe nations are adjacent to coastlands, -their borders are on the shores of the
Sea.
LOST TEN TRIBES IN THE NORTH AND WEST, i.e. IN THE NORTHWEST:
"Behold these shall come from far: and lo, these from the north
and from
the west; and these from the land of Sinim" (Isaiah 49:12).
These verses are speaking of the Lost Ten Tribes as confirmed in Midrashic
sources.
LOST TEN TRIBES IN ISLES OF THE SEA:
Other verses show that the LOST TEN TRIBES are in in Isles of the Sea:
Jeremiah in the Bible describes Ephraim as the "Firstborn" and also connects
him with "the ISLES": In the verses we just read above from Jeremiah
(31:9-10):
"I am a father to Israel, and Ephraim is my firstborn. Hear the word of the
LORD, O ye nations, and declare it in the ISLES afar off, and say, He that
scattered Israel will gather him and keep him, as a shepherd does his flock".
So far we have the west, the north, and we have "isles".
Other Biblical references also appear to indicate that the Lost Tribes
(or
at least part of them) are in the "Isles":
"Wherefore glorify you the LORD in the fires, The name of the Lord God of
Israel in the ISLES of the sea" (Isaiah 24:15).
"The ISLES shall wait for his law" (Isaiah 42:4).
"Hearken unto me, MY PEOPLE: and give ear unto me O my nation: for a law
shall proceed from me, and I will bring my judgement to rest for a light of
the people.
"My righteousness is near: my salvation is gone forth and.mine arms shall
judge the people, the ISLES shall wait upon me, and on mine arm shall they
rest" (Isaiah 51:4-5).
LOST TEN TRIBES, ISLES OF THE SEA AND "TARSHISH"
MEANING THE ATLANTIC OCEAN!!!:
The LOST TEN TRIBES as well as being in the Isles of the sea were
also
connected with a place called Tarshish:
"Who are these that fly as a cloud and as the doves to their windows?
Surely the ISLES shall wait for me, and the ships of Tarshish first, to
bring your sons from far, their silver and their gold with them , unto the
name of the LORD your God, and to the Holy one of Israel, because he has
glorified you" (Isaiah 60:9).
The above verse speaks of the "sons" (of Israel) returning "far", from
the
isles. They are reurning by plane, -flying, as it says "fly as a cloud
and
as the doves to their windows". They are also being brought back in
"the
ships of Tarshish" meaning ships plying the Atlantic Ocean.
Historically, "Tarshish" is referred to a major city-port named
"Tarsis" or
Tartessos and located on the southwest coast of Spain, near Gibraltar.
Tartessos-Tarshish at one stage was part of a maritime domain which had
establishments in Britain and Gaul as explained in "Lost Israelite
Identity". At least one Assyrian reference to "Tarsis" appears to
refer to
Britain. In Ancient Middle Eastern Thought "Tarshish" represented the
beginning of the Atlantic Ocean expanse.
In Psalms (72:10) "The Kings of Tarshish and of the ISLES shall
bring
offering", i.e. "The Kings of Tarshish and of the ISLES" are
mentioned
together. The Aramaic Paraphrase explains that the "Isles" mentioned are
those in the "Oceanic Sea" . "Oceanic Sea" meant THE ATLANTIC
OCEAN
according to Talmudic commentators. The Talmud also infers (Hullin 91b) that
Tarshish can mean the Atlantic Ocean. The Biblical expression "Ships of
Tarshish" means primarily those plying the Atlantic Ocean and therefore the
"ISLES" mentioned in association with Tarshish and Israelites are presumably
those of Britain, America, and the coastline of Northwest Europe.
The verse THEREFORE says that in the future the SONS of Israel FROM the
Isles are going to return in ships of Tarshish meaning ships
belonging to Britain or to the USA, meaning at all events ships from
the Atlantic Ocean area.
