Ominous Weekend Time-Line-Bill Koenig
November 11, 2001
Note from Bill:
This has been a very serious weekend of statements and signs
pertaining to the Middle East and God's covenant land in Israel.
John McTernan, author of "God's Final Warning to America," and I
have had a lengthy discussion this afternoon, and we have discerned
the following scenario.
Within a 48-hour period, both United States President George W.
Bush and Secretary of State Colin Powell have made public
statements in favor of a Palestinian State and the United Nations
resolutions which pertain to God's covenant land. Powell even went
so far as to say he was ready to "jump start" talks by meeting with
Palestinian President Yasser Arafat.
At the same time that Bush and Powell were speaking out about their
positions, the U.S. received clear and ominous nuclear, chemical,
and biological retribution warnings from both acknowledged
terrorist leader Osama bin Laden and Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein.
Putting this information into perspective, these statements and
warnings were not days, weeks, or months apart. They happened
almost simultaneously, within a 48-hour period. As President Bush
and Secretary of State Powell were speaking to the world of
sacrificing God's covenant land for a Palestinian state,
arch-enemies bin Laden and Hussein were threatening our country.
The ominous time-line of this weekend follows:
On Friday, in a Fox News/CNN interview, Secretary Powell talks of a
Palestinian State and "land for peace" as provided by the U.N.
Resolutions of 1967 and 1973.
On Friday, the news breaks from the Middle East that Osama bin
Laden has told a Pakistani journalist that he has nuclear,
chemical, and/or biological weapons in his possession, and that he
will not hesitate to use in retaliation against the United States.
On Saturday, at the United Nations General Assembly, President Bush
mentions a state of Palestine, existing with Israel within existing
U.N. Resolutions inside God's covenant land.
On Saturday, the Bush administration dismisses bid Laden's claims
that he possesses nuclear and chemical weapons, acknowledging only
that the suspected terrorist has tried to obtain them.
On Sunday, NewsMax reports that a day after Osama bin Laden told a
Pakistani newspaper that he had obtained nuclear weapons and is
willing to use them, another Pakistani paper claimed investigators
suspect he has pre-positioned the weapons inside America.
"Pakistani and American investigators believe that Osama bin
Laden's al-Qaeda network may have successfully transported several
nuclear, biological, and chemical weapons of mass destruction to
the United States," The Frontier Post reported Saturday.
A source with knowledge of the bin Laden nuke probe told the Post
that the FBI, the CIA and Pakistani intelligence now believe that
at least two briefcase-sized nuclear weapons may have reached the
U.S. shores.
Investigators have traced at least one of the weapons to bin
Laden's al-Qaeda terror network. "The weapon identified is small
8-kilogram device that carries at least 2 kg of fissionable
plutonium and uranium," the Post said. "The device, of Russian
make, carries a serial number 9999 and manufacturing date October
1988."
The charging mechanism for the weapon can reportedly be activated
through a timer or even through a cell phone command, according to
the report.
On Sunday, Secretary Powell says that Bush's use of "Palestine" in
his speech on Saturday was "deliberate and reflected administration
policy." Speaking on NBC's "Meet the Press," Powell said, "If one
is moving forward with a vision of two states side by side, it's
appropriate ... to call those two states what they will be, Israel
and Palestine." No United States president-Republican or
Democrat-has ever made such a statement, according to Powell.
On Sunday, the Middle East Newsline reports that United States
intelligence agencies and the Pentagon agree that Saddam Hussein
has made the most explicit threats since the 1991 Gulf war and that
he is ready to use nuclear weapons. The assessment is that Iraq is
threatening nuclear retaliation for any attack on the regime of
President Saddam Hussein.
On Sunday, in his address before the General Assembly, Arafat asks
the U.N. to send international peacekeepers to Israel to protect
his people from the "aggressors." Additionally he calls for Israel
to fulfill U.N. Resolutions 242 and 338, calling for "the
evacuation of all settlers from the settlements on occupied land."
Other Arafat demands included the establishment of a Palestinian
state with "Holy Jerusalem" as its capital.
As prophesied in the Holy Bible, the world continues to come
against Israel, Jerusalem, and God's covenant land with increasing
frequency and intensity. Could it be that the Daniel 9:27 covenant
("And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week"), and
all it implies, is not far off?
"And when these things begin to take place, then lift up your
heads; for your redemption draweth near." (Luke 28:21 KJV)

THINK AGAIN: US Christians care more than US Jews
By Jonathan Rosenblum
November, 15 2001
(November 15) Conventional wisdom attributes the broad popular support
that Israel enjoys in the US to the power of the Jewish lobby and the
intense support for Israel among American Jews. That conventional
wisdom, however, misses a great deal.
Concern with Israel's security has long since ceased to preoccupy most
American Jews. A recent survey by the Jewish Studies Center of CCNY
concludes that of the 5.5 million Americans defined by sociologists as
Jewish, half list their religion as "other" or "none."
Not surprisingly, ethnic identity of American Jews is declining
rapidly. With little sense of themselves as Jews, most American Jews
have little connection to one another, much less to Jews far away.
Even among those with more than a minimal Jewish identity, the Israel
connection tends to be fickle. Witness the Reform movement's
cancellation of programs last summer and the nearly 50% drop outr
ate among this year's rabbinical and cantorial
students at the Conservative Shechter Institute. A mere 135 foreign
students are registered for the Hebrew University's one-year program
this year, less than a quarter of the number just two years ago.
When American Jews express opinions on Israel, they often appear to be
completely out of touch with events here, and with the vast changes in
Israeli public opinion over the past year. A recent survey conducted
by Jewish groups close to the Clinton administration claims, mirable
dictu, that 85% of American Jews want the US to return to the
activist role of the Clinton years - 75% even if it leads to
confrontations between Israel and the States.
While those numbers must be taken with a grain of salt, the remarkable
thing is that they reflect absolutely no change in light of the events
of the past year. The sole exception to this bleak general picture is
the American Orthodox community. At the typical Israel Day Parade, a
large majority of the participants will be wearing knitted kippot and
long skirts. Already 20 years ago, historian Lucy Dawidowicz observed
that only the Orthodox vote reflects great concern for Jewish
interests, among which the security of Jews in Israel is paramount.
Nor is Orthodox support limited to sending checks. Despite a year of
suicide bombings and terrorist attacks, there has actually been a
slight increase in the enrollment of American post-high school
students registered in yeshivas and seminaries in Israel.
Over 5,000 single young Orthodox Americans have come this year to
study at these institutions, and thousands more young
married men are continuing their yeshiva studies.
All this is not to say that the Jewish lobby does not play an
important role in Washington, or that American Jewish philanthropy is
not vital to Israel. AIPAC and other pro-Israel lobbying groups are
feared, if not always loved, on Capitol Hill. Any politician with
national ambitions must consider the heavy concentration of Jews in
states rich in electoral votes, and the wildly disproportionate Jewish
money contributed to campaigns.
But while Jewish votes assure that New York's senators will always be
demonstrably pro-Israel, those votes cannot begin to explain the broad
consensus of congressional support for Israel and the consistently
positive feelings toward Israel of the general American population.
Many of Israel's staunchest supporters in Congress have traditionally
come from states with small Jewish populations: e.g.,
Senator Sam Brownback of Kansas, Senator Tim Hutchinson of Arkansas,
Attorney-General John Ashcroft, formerly a senator from Missouri; and
House Majority Whip Tom DeLay. Far from being supported by the
mainstream Jewish community, these men are often anathematized by
Jewish groups for their social conservatism. On a host of issues, from
school prayer to aid to educational tax vouchers to abortion, they
consistently line up on the opposite side from the organized Jewish
community.
These men support Israel not because of the mainstream Jewish
community, but despite it. Their views are shaped by their own
consciences and reflect the consensus of their overwhelmingly
Christian constituents.
Devout Christians constitute the bedrock of American support for
Israel. Such Christians number in the tens of millions. Unlike
American Jews, they are not embarrassed by criticisms of Israel in
certain left-wing circles, and do not cancel tours to Israel
after each terrorist incident.
Even a casual survey of the letters to the editor of The Jerusalem
Post reveals how avidly many American Christians follow events in
Israel. Mindful of the crucial importance of devout Christians,A
IPAC employed an evangelical Christian as its chief
lobbyist for years.
Orthodox Jews constitute a potentially vital link to the
fundamentalist community. They find it easy to talk to believers of
other religions. "God talk" does not give them the willies; they also
talk like that.
Christian supporters of Israel open up their Bibles and read that
Israel is the Promised Land, promised to the Jews. The
God-intoxicated Jews they read about in the Bible observe strict
dietary laws, honor the Sabbath, and are bound by strict codes of
sexual morality.
The Jews of the Bible, however, bear little resemblance to those the
average American Christian is likely to see on TV or read about, who
are likely to be found at the forefront of every movement of sexual
liberation.
Given the image of Jews as the least religious segment of the American
population, Christians who take the Bible seriously are bound to ask
themselves: Do the Jews of the Bible - the ones to whom the Land was
promised - still exist?
Similar questions about the connection between Jews of today and those
of the Bible are aroused by the apparent indifference
of so many modern Jews to the sanctity of the Land and even to the
most important historical sites of their religion, like Rachel's Tomb
and the Temple Mount.
Israel's Christian friends are thrilled when they meet Jews who take
seriously the Bible's commandments and who continue to cherish the
Temple Mount as the place where the Divine Presence dwelt. A visible
Orthodox community thus serves as an important corrective to Christian
stereotypes about godless Jews.
Orthodox Jews are Israel's secret weapon in the war for American
public opinion. They constitute, as a group, Israel's most committed
supporters within the American Jewish community. And they serve
as a crucial link between Israel and its strongest Christian supporters.

Focus / Now everyone has accepted a Palestinian state
By Akiva Eldar
So what if the president of the United States says he supports a
Palestinian State alongside Israel? After all, that's exactly what
Prime Minister Ariel Sharon said two weeks ago. In fact, even when he
was in opposition Sharon said it - and in New York what's more. The
Palestinian state has now become a fact, and all that's left is to
make sure that it comes into being in the most favorable conditions
for Israel.
Sharon opened the door to Bush's speech, thus thwarting any attempt to
attribute a sense of crisis to U.S.-Israeli relations to the
president's statement on a Palestinian state. Foreign Minister Peres's
"peace plan" also opened the window for Bush. When Israel's prime
minister and foreign minister offer the Palestinians a state, even the
representatives of the extreme right wing of the American Jewish
community will find it difficult to complain about Bush's speech.
The political advisors who prepared Bush's speech for the opening
session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York were
thinking about the General Assembly of the Jewish Organizations of
America, which opened in Washington this weekend. Congress is about to
move into an election year, which analysts expect to be a close
contest.
The results of the congressional elections will determine whether Bush
will stand for the next presidential elections with or without a
majority in both houses. His diplomatic advisors, on the other hand,
were thinking about the coalition against Islamic fanaticism and in
particular about the fragile state of relations with Saudi Arabia.
Bush's speech, and the decision that Powell would meet Arafat are a
compromise between the two camps of advisors. This compromise yielded
no sigh of relief in Jerusalem. Sharon already knew he had no reason
to fear an American peace plan. Peres went to Washington two weeks ago
with faint hopes of persuading the U.S. to show a presence in the
fight against terrorism not only in Afghanistan.
The foreign minister returned from Washington dismayed with the
Americans. The president's speech confirmed Peres' suspicions that
behind Bush's "vision" of a Palestinian state there is no peace plan.
The American vision begins and ends with the Mitchell Report, in other
words a cease fire and final status negotiations. To be on the safe
side, Bush's speech was padded, in advance, with the sharp criticism
of Yasser Arafat's slackness in the war against terror by national
security advisor Rice.
In order to appease the Arabs, Bush made sure to mention that the
negotiations with the Palestinians should be based on UN Resolutions
242 and 338 - pertaining to withdrawal from territories occupied in
1967. Sharon can live with that statement as well - even Yitzhak
Shamir had no problem replying to attend the Madrid Conference, which
was based on the selfsame resolutions.
Bush's refusal to dip his feet in the Middle Easter swamp, at least
until the end of the first stage of the war against terror, throws the
decision onto Peres and the Labor Party. They will have to decide now
whether to present Sharon with a viable peace plan - a condition for
the continuation of the special relationship between the two big
parties.

BUSH TO HOST ISLAMIC PRAYER MEETING IN WHITE HOUSE MONDAY
Do not worship any other god, for the LORD, whose name is Jealous,
is a jealous God (Ex 34:14).
If your brother, the son of your mother, your son or your daughter,
the wife of your bosom, or your friend... entices you, saying, 'Let
us go and serve other gods,' which you have not known... you shall
not consent to him or listen to him, nor shall your eye pity him,
nor shall you spare him or conceal him... because he sought to
entice you away from the LORD your God... (Dt 13:1-11).
The London Telegraph reports:
"President Bush, eager to improve America's reputation in the
Muslim world, will welcome 50 ambassadors from Islamic countries
for a traditional meal and prayer at the White House on Monday to
mark the start of Ramadan. "It is thought to be the first time that
Muslims will have knelt and touched the floor with their foreheads
in a formal ceremony in the official home of American presidents.
"In another unprecedented event, the Muslim chaplain of Georgetown
University officiated at the opening prayers of the House of
Representatives on Capitol Hill yesterday" (See
http://www.portal.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2001/11/16
/wus11 > 6.xml).
  - President Bush has erred greatly by promoting the religion of
Islam in various ways. But hosting a prayer meeting in the White
House for a openly anti-Christian religious group is crossing a
dangerous threshold. Coupled with the Bush administration's
commitment to Palestinian statehood, our nation may be entering
a new era of crushing judgment from a Sovereign God who is not
unmoved by our nation's infidelity --A Muslim prayer meeting in
the White House is an act of blasphemy toward the God to whom
we owe everything, a mockery of American Christians and Christianity,
a desecration of the memory of our nation's Christian Forefathers
(some of whom lived in the White House), a declaration of contempt
for our nation's Christian heritage, and an act of departure from the
Living God. There is a vast difference between entertaining
strangers and entertaining the worship of false Gods. --The
President's sin is even more grievous than when Hezekiah
showed the Babylonian emissaries his palace and the treasures
of his kingdom. Hezekiah's act led to the overthrow of Jerusalem
and the Babylonian captivity (2 Kg 20:12-19). But even Hezekiah
would never have allowed the Babylonians to worship their gods
in his house. Where will President Bush's act lead?

Subject: U.S. Military Unveils Smart ID Card
Another sign of the times? I was issued one of these!

U.S. Military Unveils Smart ID Card
By Andrea Shalal-Esa
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Top U.S. military officials on Monday unveiled
a new generation of ``smart'' identity cards, but were still weighing
whether to add medical data and other information to the chip-based ID
cards. The Defense Department said it expected to issue the chip-based
``common access cards'' to 4.3 million military personnel -- including
active military, selected reserves, civilian employees and some
contractors -- within the next 15 months. Officials said the cards,
which include a photograph, bar code, magnetic strip and other
identifying text, would help tighten security on access at 900 U.S.
military sites worldwide, including the Pentagon and to computer
networks, including access to encrypted e-mail and online
transactions. ``The big benefits are in the area of security,'' said
Dr. David Chu, undersecretary of defense for personnel and readiness,
told Reuters. ``You can know who was in a facility at a given time.''
He said that issue had taken on new importance after the Sept. 11
hijacking attacks and the discovery of anthrax-laced letters, which
has prompted the government to put thousands of postal workers and
others exposed to the potentially deadly bacteria on antibiotics.
``This technology is an important tool to improving the way the
Defense Department does business,'' he said. Once the cards are widely
distributed, the military could also use them to help create manifests
for troop deployments, greatly speeding a process that can last hours
now, officials said. Holders could also use the cards to book and file
travel plans and expenses, officials said. MEDICAL DATA COULD BE ADDED
LATER The military later could add encrypted medical information to
the cards, or simply use them to access secure computer files with
that information, Chu said. But, he said there would be benefits and
risks to such a move, and the Pentagon had not yet approved it. Mary
Dixon, director of the Defense Department's access card office, said
officials were mindful of service members' privacy concerns. Assistant
Secretary of Defense John Stenbit said other countries such as South
Africa already used such cards to control access to voting booths and
welfare benefits. Officials at the Pentagon and EDS Corp. (NYSE), the
main contractor for the smart cards, said efforts were underway to
boost the capacity of the cards within a year. Efforts were also
underway to add an individual's fingerprint, which could be ready for
implementation within two years, said Ken Scheflen, director of the
Defense Manpower Data Center. Scheflen said the Pentagon's experience
with the new technology could prove useful in any move to create
national identification cards for the United States, but no such
discussions were underway. While the military had no trouble
authenticating its users, it could prove more difficult to do so if
each American was issued a national ID -- potentially over 200 million
people, Scheflen said.
