PA TERRORIST-POLICE RING WIDENS Israel had demanded that the Palestinian Authority arrest a senior PA police officer, Col. Jihad Masini. It is suspected that it was Masini who was the guiding force behind the three terrorist-policemen who were captured by Israeli forces two days ago during an attempt to carry out a terrorist attack on the Jewish community of Har Bracha situated atop Mt. Gerizim southwest of Shechem. It is further suspected that this senior PA officer also gave the order to attack the civilian vehicle carrying residents of Elon Moreh last week. Arutz-7's Military Affairs correspondent Chagai Huberman reports that the IDF has a fourth PA police officer in custody, Muneir Abushi, who is suspected of planning terrorist attacks in the area of Tulkarm in northwest Samaria. 2. LET MY PEOPLE GO, CRY ISRAELIS Israeli businesswoman, Devorah Ganani-Elad, has been held in Egyptian custody since her arrest yesterday in Cairo Airport. Her son, Amos Ganani, reports that he spoke with his mother on the telephone this morning, and she told him that her interrogators have not yet told her the reason for her arrest. Meanwhile, Egyptian Ambassador to Israel Muhammad Basiuni received a delegation from the Israeli Bar Association who presented their formal criticism concerning the continued incarceration in Egypt of the Israeli Druze industrialist, Azam Azam. And this afternoon, Labor Party Chairman Ehud Barak met in Cairo with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak. Mr. Barak said after the meeting that he told President Mubarak that there is a clear consensus in Israeli society concerning a united Jerusalem. He further said that he had raised the issue of the continued imprisonment of Azam Azam (on trial for allegedly spying for Israel). 3. DAYAN REJECTS CRITICISM, BEIT-EL MUNICIPALITY O.C. Central Command Major-General Uzi Dayan rejects the recent criticism of Yesha leaders regarding his deliberately holding up building plans in Judea, Samaria and Gaza. Gen. Dayan maintains that his office does not hold up construction plans for more than two weeks for normal bureaucratic inspection; and then only for reasons of security. According to the General, only recently he approved eleven different building projects in Yesha. Meanwhile, in a related matter, General Dayan signed the official documents today ordering the setting up of Beit-El as an independent municipality. The Order will take effect in another 5 days. The town of Beit-El, a community of more than 700 families, was established 20 years ago, has been under the jurisdiction of the Binyamin Regional Council. Beit-El is the home of the Beit-El Yeshiva Center institutions which includes Arutz-7 Radio. 4. IDF REPORT DOCUMENTS PALESTINIAN VIOLENCE The IDF Spokesperson issued a report yesterday entitled: "A Month of Disturbances in Hevron" documenting the escalation of Palestinian initiated violence against IDF soldiers and Israeli civilians in Hevron. Among the items in the report: * In the last 30 days, there were 24 days of violent riots. * More than 600 petrol bombs ("Molotov cocktails") were thrown at IDF troops. * Several dozen acid bombs were thrown at IDF troops [and Israeli civilians]. 15 explosive devices were thrown at IDF soldiers (compared with only one during the month of May in all of Yesha). The report notes that in one day alone there were as many as 117 petrol bombs, 10 acid bombs and 1 explosive device thrown at IDF soldiers. Moreover, the report points out, despite the Accords that commit the Palestinians to fighting against such violence together with Israeli security personnel, the PA police were deliberately not in place, and IDF troops have had to confront and quell the riots single-handed. (IDF sources have told Arutz-7 on several occasions that there is clear evidence that not only did the PA orchestrate the violence, PA policemen personally took part in the attacks.) 5. PROTEST OVER IDF AWARDS TO PA SECURITY CHIEFS A number of Municipal and Regional Council heads have announced their intention to return award plaques received from Major-General Gabi Ofir, the out-going Commander of IDF Forces in Judea and Samaria at a farewell party a few days ago. This, because of yesterday's Arutz-7 exclusive report that Gen. Ofir also gave similar awards to both Col. Jibril Rajoub, head of the PA's Preventive Security Forces and to Haj Ismael Ali, Chief of the Palestinian Police in Judea and Samaria. Ex-parliamentary activist groups on Israel's political right who are working to return the plaques to Ofir maintain that it is an obligation to protest the bestowing of Israeli military citations to people who stirred up Palestinian violence throughout Judea and Samaria. 6. EDUCATION IMPROVEMENT DESPITE BUDGET CUTS The Education Ministry has announced that despite planned budget cuts, the upcoming school year will include additional classroom hours. This, according to Director-General of the Ministry of Education & Culture, Ben-Zion Del, speaking before a session of the Knesset Education Committee yesterday. Mr. Del said that during the 5758 (1997-1998) school year, no student will go home earlier than students in another school, nor will there be an increase of students per classroom. 7. NRP UPSET OVER NEW "SHAS" COURT APPOINTEES The National Religious Party (NRP) Knesset faction are instituting a parliamentary boycott in protest over the decision to appoint five new dayanim (Rabbinical Judges) to the Beit Din (Rabbinical Court) who are identified with the Haredi-Sephardic political party, Shas, and only one new dayan who is identified with the religious-Zionist movement. NRP faction members announced that they will not participate in any votes today in the Knesset. 8. GOLAN HEIGHTS CELEBRATIONS REACH PEAK In the framework of the Golan Heights communities 30th anniversary celebrations, this Thursday the main event: a multi-media and multi-dimensional show - "Time Travel on the Golan" - will take place at the amphitheater in the Ancient Talmudic Village of Katzrin. Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu is scheduled to be in attendance. ____________________________________________________________ Arutz-7 Educational Radio is a project of Bet-El Yeshiva Center Institutions.
