It always amazes me when I read the quotes of the leaders of the Islamic world which are so vitriolic towards Israel and the Jewish people. The Western world believes that a "western-styled" negotiations for peace, based on political and economic concessions, is possible in this part of the world. However, politics and economics take a back seat to religion over here. Sadly, Islam has never been tolerant and leaves no place for non-Moslems to be sovereign in what they consider "Moslem territory." As we "Pray for the peace of Jerusalem" (Ps. 122:6), we are on the right track because true peace will only come supernaturally. 1) ARAFAT CALLS FOR 'GREAT BATTLE': "We must prepare our movement in order to stand strong in the coming battle. A great battle is before us, and though it is more difficult we will wage it as we have waged our battles in the past. We must prepare our reserves on every level, our reserves of muscle and thought, our reserves of food. We must plan each step carefully and precisely. "No one can harm the Palestinian revolution, for it will persist and struggle, struggle, struggle.... It is important that we organize our homes and our movements in order to endure the coming battle, which we shall begin. We must say these things because great battles lie before us, and it will now be more difficult than it was in the past... let us each commit one to another and let us commit ourselves before Allah and the Palestinian people. "We are marching together with the blessing of Allah, my brothers, we are marching together to Jerusalem, Jerusalem, Jerusalem." -PA Chairman Yasser Arafat to his Fatah faction of the PLO (I&G News, August 5, 1997) - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 2) U.S. SHOULD CUT AID TO PALESTINIANS: "I favor insisting that the Palestinian authority take serious steps against terrorism or they are not to get help. Frankly, I think the Palestinian authority has a great deal to answer for, and I think if there is not some very significant effort on their part to stop terrorism, there is a very high likelihood the United States will cease to give aid to the Palestinian Authority. The chief of police of Palestine has been actively supporting the terrorists." - US House Speaker, Newt Gingrich, Aug. 8, 1997) - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 3) GRAND AYATOLLAHS ISSUE FATWAS FOR ISRAEL'S DESTRUCTION TEHERAN, IRAN - Grand Ayatollahs issue Fatwas [edicts] in July, 1997 calling for the destruction of the Zionist regime [Israel]: Grand Ayatollah Fazel Lankarani: "Islamic states must abandon their lengthy negligence and unite to destroy Israel. The Islamic Government should wake up from its deep ignorance and state its intent to eliminate Israel through unity and the cooperation of the Islamic Ummah [community]. I beseech Almighty God for the enhancement of Islam and for the eradication of blasphemy and of the criminal Israel." Grand Ayatollah Safi Golpayegani: "Zealous Muslims all over the world are standing firm and ready for action with all their might until they destroy the regime which has usurped Palestine. Grand Ayatollah Yusef Sane'i: "All those responsible for this sacrilege are condemned to death; and Muslims are duty bound to execute the sentence. Grand Ayatollah Nuri Hamedani: "Muslims of the world must unite to crush the base of global arrogance. They must unite to lance this cancerous tumor." - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 4) HAMAS SPOKESMAN ON M.E. PEACE PROCESS In an interview with Hamas spokesman, Mahmud Zahar, Angela Gruenert of Hamburg Stern recorded the following: "Hamas has recognized neither the Oslo peace accords nor the Palestinian elections or the autonomy government, which has sold the country to the enemy. The peace process has become a ridiculously empty phrase. "In the Gaza Strip alone, half of the population is living in camps ... for them, peace will not exist until we have reconquered our country and they can return to where they once led a normal life in dignity. [Of the Jewish Israelis] "We are prepared to share the country with them. But sharing means equal rights for all, and they must accept that they live under the flag of Islam -- or else they must go. "The bombs in the Mahaneh Yehudah Market are retribution for the many martyrs who have sacrificed their lives in the daily war against Israel over the past two months. And they are the answer to Israel's ruthless settlement policy. We will never be able to tolerate a settlement in the heart of East Jerusalem." - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 5) HAMAS ON ISRAELI SETTLERS: "Those spiteful [Israeli] settlers in Hebron and other cities of our occupied Palestinian lands are receiving full support and encouragement from this Israeli government and previous governments. We call on our people in Palestine to chase these herds of settlers and turn their lives into an intolerable hell. "We call on all Palestinian people, Moslems and Christians, to join hands in responding to the Zionist crimes, which will be stopped only by decisive actions." Mussa Abu Marzuk, Hamas politburo member in Islamic magazine, Al-Islah, August 13, 1997). - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - HERE ARE SOME OTHER INTERESTING STORIES THAT REFLECT DEVELOPMENTS IN THE WORLD THAT COULD HAVE A NEGATIVE ON ISRAEL, JEWS AND CHRISTIANS. 6) CHURCH BURNINGS, SLAVERY IN SUDAN Church burnings and slavery are part of Sudan "Holy War" against Christians. Arab militias, armed by the Islamic government of Sudan, burned two Christian churches in raids on southern Christian villages in April and May. One of the churches was Protestant and one Catholic. Benson Bol Bak, a local Catholic Catechist, told John Eibner of Christian Solidarity International (CSI) that on May 16, he was awakened with the sound of gunfire. Arabs, some in militia uniforms, attacked the villager of Agor, killing villagers and destroying the church. "It was clear to everybody that it was a church. It had a cross on the roof and a cross on the altar." The church was looted before it was set afire. Bibles were piled up and burned. CSI also reports the burning of a Protestant church in the near-by village of Majak Bai. This church was supported by an American Protestant congregation, Calvary Chapel in California. Church and Bible burnings seem to be a new tactic in the assault on non-Moslem minorities in the south of Africa's largest nation where a decades long war that has cost more than a million lives and rekindled the slave trade. This raid on Agor resulted in the capture and enslavement of eight black Christian children. CSI has redeemed hundreds of slaves from Arab traders. On its latest mission, the freedom of 155 was purchased with money collected in Europe. According to human rights groups and the UN, slaves in Sudan are often forcibly converted to Islam. Many are sold, some for as little as $15, some to countries in the Middle East. Documented cases of modern day human bondage around the globe with specific attention on Sudan, where pure forms of chattel slavery have reappeared as part of this religious war, can be reviewed at the American Anti-Slavery Group web site: www.channel1.com/aasg. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 7) IRANIAN MISSILES TO REACH ISRAEL 'WITHIN TWO YEARS' Senior Israeli security sources reveal that within two years Israel will face a direct threat from Iranian surface-to-surface missiles. For years, the Iranians have been trying to develop missiles which could cover large parts of Israel, including the Tel Aviv region, but it was not clear when this project would be completed. It is now known that by the end of 1999, Iran will have an operational surface-to-surface missile with a 1,300 km range, which is the necessary range for reaching Israel. Western intelligence sources note that the new missile being developed by Iran combines the technologies of the North Korean Nodong missile and the Russian Scud missile. The completion of the 1,300 km-range missile is only the first stage of the Iranian missile project. Israeli security sources say the Iranians are already involved in the second stage, which consists of developing missiles that can reach the ranges of 2,000 km, 5,000 km, and 10,000 km. These missiles will pose a threat to all parts of Europe and will be able to reach even the U.S. coast. Iran intends to complete their development in five to 10 years. (Yedi'ot Aharonot newspaper, July 28, 1997) - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 8) RUSSIA TO SELL ADVANCED ANTI-SHIP MISSILE MOSCOW, (Itar-Tass) - Russia is ready to put the "Yakhont" anti-ship missile on the world armaments market. The missile created by the Russian "Mashinostroyeniye" design and research production association has a long range, up to 300 kilometers, and is equipped with a two-regime radar homing system designed by "Granit" research institute. Experts of the Russian navy believe this Russian missile is impervious to attack. If can be launched from submarines, from surface ships and by coast guards launchers on the ground. With a high speed, more than double that of the sound, and low attitude of the flight, "Yahont" remains undetected until it explodes. The missile is meant for destruction of aircraft carriers, frigates and surfaced submarines of an enemy. Military experts predict the volume the missile's purchases may be beyond expectation. Some Asia-Pacific countries and Middle East countries show interest in the new missile. The Russian missile is far superior in all parameters to the much advertised U.S. Tomahawk missile and its French and British counterparts. Russian designers and specialists of the navy believe "Yakhont" will have no competition in the world armaments market for at least a quarter of a century. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 9) MOSLEMS HONOR FARRAKHAN AS IMAM, SHEIKH Sheikhs from Cyprus, Egypt and several other nations declared Minister Louis Farrakhan a sheikh and imam of the Moslem world on July 6th, signifying their acceptance of his Nation of Islam as part of the mainstream Moslem religious world. The sheikhs placed an imam's white turban on Farrakhan's head at the final session of the three-day International Islamic People's Conference in Chicago, sponsored by Farrakhan and Libyan ruler, Moammar Gadhafi. In the Moslem world, imam is a title of respect given to outstanding scholars and religious figures, and sheikh is a title of respect generally given to learned men and leaders. "Never again can they say there is a gap between Moslems here and around the world," Farrakhan said. He received the title of imam immediately after Gadhafi addressed the final conference session by satellite for 50 minutes. The Libyan leader said he regretted that the ordinary American pays taxes that help "in the establishment of a Hebrew state." Farrakhan was the subject of much political criticism when Gadhafi last year offered him a $1 billion gift and a $250,000 award. The U.S. Treasury denied Farrakhan permission to accept them. (Chicago Sun Times) - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 10) ARAB ENVOYS THANK MOSCOW FOR SUPPORT MOSCOW (Interfax) -- The ambassadors of Arab countries accredited in Moscow have thanked Russia's president and government for their consistent principled approach to settlement in the Middle East and support for "the just demands of the Palestinian people." The Arab ambassadors made the statement during their recent meeting with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Viktor Posuvalyuk in Moscow, the Russian Foreign Ministry said. Posuvalyuk met with the heads of the Arab countries' diplomatic missions at their request. He said Russia saw Israel's settlements policy as "running counter to international law and Palestinian-Israeli agreements (and) braking the negotiation process," a press release reports. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 11) NOW, FOR WHAT YOU ARE REALLY WANTING!!! THE JOKE SECTION. These two sets of jokes were sent to me by Glen Haines of Operation Tarshish and I am passing them on to you. Have a good laugh: SOME CREATIVE ANSWERING MACHINE MESSAGES: "Hi. Now you say something." "Hi! John's answering machine is broken. This is his refrigerator. Please speak very slowly, and I'll stick your message to myself with one of these magnets." "Hello, you are talking to a machine. I am capable of receiving messages. My owners do not need siding, windows, or a hot tub, and their carpets are clean. They give to charity through the office and don't need their picture taken. If you're still with me, leave your name and number and they will get back to you." "This is not an answering machine - this is a telepathic thought-recording device. After the tone, think about your name, your reason for calling, and a number where I can reach you, and I'll think about returning your call." "Greetings, you have reached the Sixth Sense Detective Agency. We know who you are and what you want, so at the sound of the tone, please hang up." "Hi. I am probably home. I'm just avoiding someone I don't want to talk to. Leave me a message, and if I don't call back, it's you." "Hi, this is George. I'm sorry I can't answer the phone right now. Leave a message, and then wait by your phone until I call you back." "If you are a burglar, then we're probably at home cleaning our weapons right now and can't come to the phone. Otherwise, we probably aren't home and it's safe to leave us a message.." - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - HUMAN "GENIUS" AT WORK: I worked with an Individual who plugged her power strip back into itself and for the life of her could not understand why her system would not turn on. -------------------- 1st Person: "Do you know anything about this fax-machine?" 2nd Person: "A little. What's wrong?" 1st Person: "Well, I sent a fax, and the recipient called back to say all she received was a cover-sheet and a blank page. I tried it again, and the same thing happened." 2nd Person: How did you load the sheet?" 1st Person: "It's a pretty sensitive memo, and I didn't want anyone else to read it by accident, so I folded it so only the recipient would open it and read it." -------------------- I recently saw a distraught young lady weeping beside her car. "Do you need some help?" I asked. She replied, "I knew I should have replaced the battery in this remote door unlocker-now I can't get into my car. Do you think they [pointing to a distant convenience store would have a battery for this?" "Hmmm, I dunno. Do you have an alarm, too?" I asked. "No, just this remote 'thingy,'" she answered, handing it and the car keys to me. As I took the key and manually unlocked the door, I replied, "Why don't you drive over there and check about the batteries - it's a long walk." -------------------- Tech Support: "What does the screen say now?" Person: "It says, 'Hit ENTER when ready'." Tech Support: "Well?" Person: "How do I know when it's ready? -------------------- My friend called his car insurance company to tell them to change his address from Texas to Vermont. The woman who took the call asked where Vermont was. As he tried to explain, she interrupted and said, "Look, I'm not stupid or anything, but what state is it in?" -------------------- Several years ago we had an intern who was none too swift. One day he was typing and turned to a secretary and said, "I'm almost out of typing paper. What do I do?" "Just use copier machine paper," she told him. With that, the intern took his last remaining blank piece of paper, put it on the photocopier and proceeded to make five blank copies. -------------------- I was working the help desk. One day one of the computer operators called me and asked if anything "bad" would happen if she dropped coins into the openings of her PC. I asked her if this was something she was thinking of doing. She said, "never mind" and hung up. So I got out my trusty tool kit and paid her a visit. I opened her CPU case and sure enough - there was 40 cents. -------------------- This person had a broken lamp which he wanted to discard. Unfortunately, the power cord ran under his refrigerator, making it impossible to move the lamp while the cord was attached. He decided to cut the cord, since the lamp was unusable anyway. He didn't remember to unplug it first. I found him in the hallway rolling back and forth. -------------------- I was in a car dealership a while ago when a large motor home was towed into the garage. The front of the vehicle was in dire need of repair and the whole thing generally looked like an extra in "Twister." I asked the manager what had happened. He told me that the driver had set the cruise control, then went back to make a sandwich. -------------------- I called a company and asked to speak to Bob. The person who answered said, "Bob is on vacation. Would you like to hold?" -------------------- Here's the set up: I rented a movie from Blockbuster. Before the movie begins a message comes on the screen saying, "This movie has been altered to fit your television screen." "Never again can they say there is a gap between Moslems here and around the world," Farrakhan said. The Arab ambassadors made the statement during their recent meeting with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Viktor Posuvalyuk in Moscow, the Russian Foreign Ministry said. Before the movie begins a message comes on the screen saying, "This movie has been altered to fit your television screen."
