A Child of The King
By: Messianic Rabbi Yehoshua M. Othniel

I've heard so many stories over the years as I've walked with the L-rd,
stories about people who named and claimed their Cadillacs, etc. "I'm a
child of the King, I deserve to drive the best."

I too am a child of The King, but I have known poverty for some time.
I have lived on Welfare; something I am ashamed of. Yes my needs were
provided for, but if you have ever been on the dole, you will understand
why I wasn't eager to have anyone learn of my financial circumstances.

I live each day by faith trusting in Him for my needs. I have always
had a roof over my head, clothes on my back, and food on my table. My
needs have always been met. I am a child of The King, but I deserve
nothing more than what is sufficient. That is why what I am about to
share with all of you came as a bit of a shock and total surprise. G-d
gave me a Cadillac!

I was minding my own business, doing some work to help a fellow
believer in need when the offer came.
"I'd like to give you a car, if you'd like it." These were the words
pretty much that came from a man I barely knew. We'd only been working
together for about a week. It seems G-d had put it on someone's heart
to donate this car to his efforts in the Kingdom and while the donation
was much appreciated, it wasn't going to fill a need. The L-rd had
obviously put it on this brother's heart to pass on the blessing to
where it could be most helpful.

I live in rural South Eastern Kansas. While I live in a city which
has nearly everthing I could want within walking distance, there are
just some things a Jewish family needs that you just can't get around
here. In short, you have to drive, and by drive, I mean some
distance... Try the next state! I own an old pickup truck, a provision
from Heaven. This vehicle provides most of my transportation needs, in
city. You don't dare drive it outside of the city. That takes far too
much faith, not to mention a case of oil, transmission fluid, spare
parts... I'm sure you get the picture. A pickup truck is also hard to
transport a family of five when all five of us have to ride inside the
cab. We may live in rural Kansas, but we're not barbarians. I don't
even make the dog ride in the back! Not that anyone could ride in the
back. Lurch, that's the name of my truck, is old, and old trucks burn
oil. You can tell when it's me coming down the road, just look for the
glory cloud of blue and white smoke trailing above and behind me as I
go. Ah but I digress.

I was totally in shock when this car was offered to me. I actually had
to think about it. To tell you the truth I wasn't going to take it at
first. How would I insure another car? How would I get it home? I was
in El Paso, Texas at the time. I excused myself to think and then I
muttered something about being offered a car for free to my co-workers.
"Take it!" they said. I protested but to no avail. "Are you out of
your mind? Take the car!"

I went along and accepted the gift. I don't think it really sank in
what I was doing until I got behind the wheel, the signed Title in my
wallet and keys in the ignition. I now owned a car! I haven't owned a
car in close to two years. I walked every where I went. I couldn't
afford a car. I wasn't sure how I'd keep Lurch on the road back home
and now this.

Needless to say my wife was a little over whelmed when she learned
we'd been given a car. She thought I was joking. She saw the car
outside and asked who'd driven me home? I told her I drove home in our
new car, a Cadillac Cimmaron sedan. I showed her the gold keys, the
Title. It didn't quite compute. She was stunned as I'd been.

The car is insured and I'm in the final stages of getting the Title
transferred and the car registered. G-d has been providing right along.
Lurch? he's still on the road. He runs as good as ever, glory cloud and
all. I drive Lurch mostly. Ever since I gave my wife her own keys I
hardly see the car. I do get to drive the car when we go some place as
a family. We took a ride the other day just for the heck of it. I
couldn't help but smile and laugh to myself as I thought... I'm a child
of The King, I drive the best!
