COALITION SOURCES: NETANYAHU WITHSTOOD PRESSURE Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu returned to Israel today from his official visit to the United States. Following his final meeting last night with Secretary of State Albright, Netanyahu said that a certain amount of progress was achieved through his visit, but that many details remain to be ironed out. Senior members in the Netanyahu government said today that the Prime Minister successfully withstood the pressures placed on him by the Clinton Administration. In this light, U.S. State Department Spokesman James Rubin stated that Yasser Arafat will have to be realistic regarding any further Israeli withdrawal from Judea and Samaria. Rubin added that Arafat must combat the terrorist organizations working within territory controlled by the P.A.. Mr. Arafat arrived in Washington today to meet with President Clinton and other U.S. officials. Upon his arrival back in Israel, Prime Minister Netanyahu was greeted at the airport by several of his cabinet ministers including Moshe Katzav, Eli Suissa and Yehoshua Matza. Netanyahu drove directly to the house of former Education Minister Zevulun Hammer who passed away two days ago and whose family is observing "shiva", a traditional week of mourning. 2. CLINTON URGED TO SEEK TRANSFER OF KILLERS OF AMERICANS At a Washington press conference sponsored by the Zionist Organization of America on Wednesday, Congressmen joined parents of Americans killed by Palestinian Arab terrorists to demand the extradition of the murderers to the United States. U.S. Representatives Steve Rothman and Jon Fox, both members of the House International Relations Committee, criticized the Clinton Administration for its silence on the issue of Arab killers of U.S. citizens. The parents of Sara Duker (killed in a 1996 Jerusalem bus bombing), Matthew Eisenfeld (who was engaged to Sara Duker and died in the same bombing), David Boim (victim of a 1996 drive-by shooting), and the mother-in-law of Yaron Unger (also victim of drive-by shooting) all appealed to President Clinton for action. ZOA President Morton Klein spoke of a letter authored by Congressmen Jim Saxton and Matt Salmon, and signed by 4 Senators and 22 additional Congressmen. The letter was delivered to Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and urges her to raise the issue of American victims of Palestinian terror when she meets Arafat today. 3. MINISTER OF TRADE SHARANSKY TO VISIT POLLARD Minister of Trade Natan Sharansky will visit Jonathan Pollard in prison next month in North Carolina. Sharansky will be the third Israeli minister to visit Pollard over the last few months. Three other cabinet ministers have also announced their intentions to visit Pollard in the near future. Pollard's wife, Esther, has been working tirelessly to bring her husband's case to the forefront of the Jewish agenda both in Israel and the Diaspora. Jonathan Pollard is the only person in the history of the United States to receive a life sentence for spying for an American ally. The median sentence for such an offense is two to four years. 4. ISRAELI FIGHTER PLANES HIT HIZBULLAH TERRORISTS Israeli Air Force Planes attacked Hizbullah terrorist bases in the area of Sujud this afternoon. All of the planes returned safely, and the pilots reported accurate hits against their targets. 5. REACTIONS TO PROPOSED ARAFAT VISIT AT HOLOCAUST MUSEUM Reactions to Yasser Arafat's visit to the Holocaust museum in Washington D.C. have been varied. Arafat's VIP tour of the museum was proposed and promoted by U.S. State Department officials including Dennis Ross. MK Rehavam Ze'evi (Moledet) told an Arutz Sheva correspondent, "If Arafat's visit is a public relations gimmick to improve his image, we're not interested, and if he intends to learn tactics from his 'older brother,' the original Adolf, it's also unnecessary... If Arafat wants to see pictures of Jewish women and children slaughtered and burned, he doesn't need to cross the Atlantic for that, he can look at pictures of Ofra and Tal Moses who were burned to death on Arafat's orders while they were on their way to Alfey Menashe." In contrast, Abe Foxman, Director of the Anti-Defamation League, sided to allow the visit saying that the museum directors cannot prevent such a visit to a federally funded institution. Morton Klein, head of the ZOA, expressed anger at the holocaust museum's invitation to Arafat. Mr. Klein asked, "On what basis can the murderer of Jews who denies the Holocaust receive an invitation to a museum of the holocaust?" 6. NEW DEVICE FOR COMPANY MANAGERS An Israeli firm has developed a computer device by which company managers can detect when their computer staff is wasting time on Internet games and sites. Several American companies including Flight Safety purchased the system. The program is called "Session Wall 3" and was developed by Abirnet of Yokneam. Abirnet Manager Ziv Dascalu says the Israeli system also detects "hackers" attempting to break into the company computer system.
