HaY'Did and Bridges for Peace
Dear Rooters,
Shalom! We hope that all of you had wonderful
celebrations. Locally we
had thirty three friends and families gather with us for our
passover
seder. It was wonderful to see one of our ministry's advisors
family
arrive for their first seder as a family! For years Lois
Lessman and her
two girls, Hannah and Emma, have come to the seders, but this
year it
was extra special! Lois' sister, Linda, and her son,
Jonathan, and her
mother, Deloris, all came! What a joy to see that table full!
Deloris
has been a blessing to this ministry time and again, and we
were so glad
that she finally arrived for a passover with us. Deloris and
all the
Lessmans were extra excited as the Lutheran Church that they
all attend
(actually many of our close friends are Lutherans and are
still in their
church locally), had Maudy Thursday Services. The service was
built
around The Four Questions from a seder! Smiles and grins
abounded as
other members of that church reported that they recognized
the dialogue!
Miracles do happen! Baruch haShem!
Tom and I greatly enjoyed presiding over the seder
together this year.
The allergy season is upon us, so it took two of us to read
from Eddie's
haggadah. But inspite of the choking and clearing of throats
we made it
through from start to finish. I would love to know how many
people had
their first seder, and a personal curiosity for me, would be
if I could
hear from everyone that used the Anti-Panic Passover Guide
that was
available off the net, and in printed form. I was told years
ago that
this book would never sell....so I would be curious to know
how many
lives this "non-seller" touched. <grinning>
I want to also make a major announcement for Bridges for
Peace. For
years it has been the desire of this wonderful organization
to have a
Christian TV Magazine from Israel on television. It would be
a family
teaching tool that could come into homes around the world on
a weekly
basis. Finally! It has happened! JERUSALEM MOSAIC airs
starting May 3rd
Sundays on FAMILYNET (FAM), 5:00 pm EST* (Satellite
Coordinates, SBS6
TRANSPONDER 1 [Orbit Position, 74 degrees west] adjust time
accordingly
for time zones.)
It will air on Thursdays on the NEW INSPIRIATIONAL NETWORK
(INSP), 8:30
PM EST*, starting May 7th (Satellite Coordinates, GALAXY 1R
TRANSPONDER
17 [Orbit Position, 133 degrees west] adjust time accordingly
for time
zones.)
Check your local cable television stations for these
networks. To assure
that JERUSALEM MOSAIC will air in your area WE NEED YOUR
HELP. Please
CALL or WRITE your local affiliate or cable company and ask
them to air
JERUSALEM MOSAIC, which will be transmitted from the network.
We
understand that local affiliates are under no obligation to
air the
network feed, unless they believe there is enough local
interest. (*Be
advised that the times listed above are time slots we have
bought.
However, local affiliates may choose to show the program at a
different
time. If you don't see it on your television program
listings, call and
inquire locally.)
The edited programs are fantastic (Cheryle has seen one
and it truly was
a teaching experience you will want to share with your family
and
friends!). We know there is nothing like it on Christian
television, so
we believe all stations will be anxious to include JERUSALEM
MOSAIC on
their programming schedule. Its up to you to contact your
stations.
Please help. As funds permit, we will be adding new stations
and
networks!!
If you would like to make a donation towards this
wonderful project, you
may send your check made payable to Bridges for Peace to:

Brad Young's conference April 3-4-5 in Tulsa for the
Gospel Research
Foundation was truly an inspiration to all in attendance.
About 140
people attended this three day event and it is hoped that it
will be
presented again next year in Tulsa, OK.
The conference opened with a unique experience for many of
us. We all
sat down with the Reform Rabbi and his cantor to celebrate a
passover
seder together! What rejoicing we did! The cantor added just
the right
touch. In fact, one of my local volunteers, Carol, traveled
with me on
the first day of the conference, and informed me that she had
decided
that the cantor would fit nicely into the trunk of our car.
She would
grab the guitar and when he followed in fast pursuit, I was
to shove him
into the trunk and drive like crazy back to Kansas!
<grinning> The
fellowship and humor of the rabbi, added much to the
experience, as well
as the hard work of Bridges for Peace to assist in putting on
this
seder. Its nice having Bridges just down the road from us. If
you want
to visit their offices in Tulsa, do give them a call when you
are in
town. The tour is well worth it!
The conference was presented at St. James Methodist Church
in Tulsa and
was very easy to find. The facility was huge, and the heart
of the
church was presented towards all of us each time we met one
of their
pastors or people. Such a servant's heart was represented to
all of us.
A big thank you to them for allowing us to fill their rooms
with our
smiling faces.
Deborah Levine, author and speaker, for the Jewish
Community spoke to us
on Women in Judaism. It was Deborah's last day in her
position within
the Jewish Community Center, as she is moving to Chatanooga
to be
Executive Director there of their Jewish Community Center.
Deborah has
been a inspiration to many of us as she has served Tulsa
well. Her book,
Teaching Christian Children about Judaism was published with
a Catholic
nun a few years ago. It is full of lesson plans, a tape with
music on
it, and ideas that are perfect for the homeschooling family.
We've
carried this book for sometime now, and it has been a great
teaching
tool.
Next, Lenore Mullican who is Dr. Robert Lindsey's
daughter, spoke on
Women of the New Testament. Lenore and Ken Mullican head
HaKesher
Ministries (http://www.hakesher.org)
and have worked many years to teach
the Jewish roots of our faith. Lenore teaches Hebrew at Oral
Roberts
University, and Ken mans the desk at their ministry each day.
We hope to
publish an article by Lenore in the near future on the role
of women
within the New Testament.
Bridges for Peace US Director, Larry Erhlick, gave an
outstanding sermon
on Replacement Theology. Too often pastors forget about
Romans 9-10-11.
they skip right over those chapters. Larry certainly gave
much food for
thought and spoke straight from the heart. We hope to have
this sermon
transcribed soon for an article for publication. Many within
Christianity need to read or hear Larry's heart in this
matter.
I cannot forget to thank the many volunteers that worked
so hard to make
this conference a success. Truly they served HIM during this
time of
ministry and we want them to know how much it meant to attend
in comfort
and them seeing to our every need. Thank you all!
Dr. Brad Young was his usual chipper self through out the
weekend.
Meeting his parents and also Margaret Lindsey (Dr. Robert
Lindsey's
wife) were truly high points for my volunteers. Brad was very
hospitable
and eager to share with all of us. If you get a chance to
order the
tapes from this conference, then do so. Brad spoke eloquently
on THE
TRIAL OF JESUS, and JESUS AND PAUL: Two Jewish Theologians.
These are
areas that we all have wanted to study over the years, and I
can assure
you that Brad has done his homework. (His books are also
available on
these topics from HaY'Did)
Joseph Frankovic also spoke. Now Joseph is a newcomer to
some of you,
but I can assure you, you WILL be hearing more about him in
the days
ahead. His materials are available from HaKesher. At the
moment he has
two books out: READING THE BOOK and THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN.
Both are
economically prices and well worth reading. Joseph is working
on his Ph.
D. at the moment, but I think you will enjoy his skills of
communication. He is a top notch writer and also a good
speaker. Again,
I can only encourage you to order the tapes from the
conference, and
also keep in touch with Gospel Research Foundation
(http://www.gospelresearch.org)
about other speaking engagements and
conferences.
I must apologize now. I took my camera to the conference
and fully
intended to put together a photo album on our website. But,
alas, the
photos did not come out. Sorry. But when I go to North
Carolina I hope
to be a better camera person. Randy Felton's wife, Betsy, is
a
professional photographer, and she has taken the majority of
photos that
are on our website. But, alas, she isn't going to be in North
Carolina.
Sorry.
Are you planning on attending a conference soon? How do
you like this
idea: If you are a "Rooter" (a member of this
newsgroup) then may we
suggest that you wear a red ribbon near your name tag? My
friend, Carol,
suggested this idea: Wear a red piece of yarn with a knot in
the end of
it. Tape it to your name tag with a red sticky circle (not a
heart,
please). This would symbolize Rahab's red thread that saved
her life in
Jericho! Simple and easy to make, right? So keep your eyes
open for the
red thread of yarn! It could mean you are meeting a member of
this
newsgroup!
There are other conferences in the works in the coming
months. Let us
hear from you: Check our website for the most current
information within
our association...http://www.haydid.org
Randy Felton and Dr. Doug
Wheeler have asked me to speak in Bossier City, LA July 18,
1998 (one
day only!) at their conference, too. So mark that on your
calendars,
okay? Many of us will be at the Jerusalem Conference in
Little Rock in
August, too. I know that there are atleast two other
conferences in the
works: One this fall in OKC (one day event), and one in
Mississippi. So
keep your eyes on our website for information, okay?
Shalom, everyone! And we'll see you at the conferences!
