JEWISH TRADITION: 3 BOOKS ARE OPENED ON ROSH HASHANAH

Since the courts were seated and the books were opened, it is understood to be Rosh HaShanah. According to Jewish tradition, (Talmud, Rosh HaShanah 6b) there are three books which are opened and each person is placed into one of three categories.

The Pharisees of the school of Shammai teach that there will be three classes in the final Day of Judgment: one of the wholly righteous, one of the wholly wicked, and one of the intermediates. The wholly righteous are at once inscribed and sealed for life in the world to come (eternity); the wholly wicked are at once inscribed and sealed for perdition (Talmud, Rosh HaShanah 16b-17a)
